Hey everyone, just read the rules and it suggested an introduction so here it goes:

I'm a 27 almost 28 year old originally from the US. I graduated as a mechanical engineer and worked in the oil industry for a few years before I quit to travel the world. I don't have any sort of online business so I can't say that traveling is my permanent lifestyle. I have met a load of people so far who work online and it sounds interesting and one of my good friends recommended I check out this forum so here I am.

If you want to check out my travel stories you can hit up the blog (I know there are a million of the "quit job to travel the world" type blogs) at www.hiteject.com . No promises it's any better than the 100k others out there, but if you like surfing and traveling take a look.

I am taking one of the cheap udemy classes on complete web development but I'm not sure if that's really what I want to do to make money. It seems like an interesting way to start though to at least understand how websites work. I am looking more at selling websites and handing over the actual development to a proper web designer and then just taking a commission. If you have any helpful hints about website sales and want to pass them along then I would greatly appreciate it!

Anyways, that's a quick summation of my story! I look forward to learning.

Yeah, that's part of the reason why I joined this forum. A friend of mine added me to the facebook group and then I decided to join this forum after hearing/seeing numerous references. So far both appear to be great resources of information.

Welcome to the Forum!

What made you decide to quit? Did you have a plan of where you were going to go and how you were going to pay for everything before you went?

Welcome to the Forum!

When I was a kid I had a dream to travel to the Amazon and explore for snakes. As I got a bit older the dream changed a bit to chasing girls around Europe. Then I actually had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain and I realized that, yeah I actually do love to travel. After that, travel was all I could think about so I started looking at ways I could take off for a long time. After graduation I took 2 months to travel and surf around Central America and then I started working full time since I had no money (negative money actually since I had some student loans to pay for school).

Working in the oil industry for 3 years as an engineer is not only a way to learn about a ton of different systems and how to make them all mesh together but it is quite rewarding financially. The other good thing is that my location was a low cost of living area. So I basically kept a lifestyle that was similar to my college days except now I had a 6 figure paycheck + bonus. So I paid off my student loans and started saving. One day I just realized that it's now or never if I want to do a big round the world trip. So I told my boss that I am finishing up a big 6 sigma project and after that I will be taking off to chase a dream of mine haha.

I had planned on living off of savings and since it is pretty easy to travel cheaply, my savings would be enough to last me a while on the road. But being on the road and meeting so many digital nomads means my 'professional' side of me can't stay dormant. I basically want my cake and to eat it to and to figure out a way to have some sort of income while traveling.

As of now, I don't have any income. I am in the very beginning stages of doing website sales for a friend that I have met while traveling. I have no experience with sales but I have a ton of contacts in a number of different fields that could really use some updated websites.
