Update - Jan 11

Update on the stats so far ( stats have improved as days went on )
  • Jan 8th Campaign - 28% open , 0% response
  • Jan 9th Campaign - 44% open , 0% response
  • Jan 10th Campaign - 48% open , 0% response
  • Jan 11th Campaign - 17% open , 0% response ( todays email went out at 6:30 am , I expect the stats to grow to the 30-40% open range by the end of the day.)
Grand total 400 + emails , no responses . I was going to send another campaign ( the same email ) out again tomorrow , but I think I have enough data to make the decision to change my email. So that will be the focus for today.

If my campaign today tops out in the 30%-40% open range then that suggests to me I have a good subject line that at least provokes an open.

I did a bit of research yesterday and found out that normal response rates is 10% +. I guess that means my body is terrible. lol

This is the email I have been sending. I got it from a fb ads "guru " online who was showing he had some good results with it and thought it was worth it to give it a try .

Hi there, {{name}}

We're looking to partner with some {targeted clients industry} to run their Facebook Ads campaign for free!

My name is Alexander and I currently run Facebook Advertisements for Barbers , Realtors & E-Commerce stores BUT I'm looking to bring on 5 more new clients.

I'd love to work with you on some FB campaigns to prove my worth and earn your business. Ideally, I would hope to get you new clients through your doors.

I will waive my fee, do ALL the work for free (all you'll need to do is pay for the advertising spend) to generate results then use that as a case study to get more clients for business.

It's really simple...You get the leads, I get the results, we're both happy

Is this something you'd be interested in?

FYI,

I'm looking to work with 5 case study clients this month so please let me know asap and we'll get you going...to be fair, i'll be asking quite a few businesses.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I liked about this email initially : It seemed a pretty straight forward , and would get at least a response

What I didn't like : it seemed a bit like "fake it till you make it " , the original email told me to put industries similar to the clients own , but I just put the industries that I have personally worked with in the past.

I don't know much about email cold outreach , so I kind of just took something I thought would perform and figured I'd learn as I go and not get stuck in analysis paralysis , SO I just ran with this one. Feedback welcome... besides the feedback I just got with 0 replies XD

I can tell you why you're not getting responses. These are just guesses, by the way.

  1. The messages are too long.
  2. It reads like a canned email - if you sent 100 emails and didn't even get a "not interested" / "take me off your list" / "there's a special place in hell for salespeople like you" (yes, this was said to me once) then they're likely opening the email and thinking "ah, more spam."
  3. You're trying to pitch your service in the first email, rather than opening a genuine dialog
  4. You're not sending follow ups.
Always, ALWAYS send follow ups. 90% of my sales were initiated through email, and weren't responded to until I sent a follow up. But 100% of the deals ended with either a phone call or a handshake in a conference room.

Your goal should be to close each step of your process. First, get them to open a talk with you. Second, get them to agree to speak with you on the phone, third, ask the right questions to solve their problems. Fourth (???). Fifth: profit.

Or.. You could just cut out the waiting game and get on the phone and call them once you see they opened the email.

Upon review of my email from your criteria , I think I'm guilty of 2 ,3 , & 4.

So when you send your initial emails which is to talk to you , what does that look like? do you introduce yourself and what you do , or do you ask for the right person to talk to in the organization? ( the businesses I'm pitching are small 4-10 employees)

When you follow up to get them to talk to you , what do you generally say? and how long do you wait to follow up each time and how many times do you follow up ?

If you read threads by @SinisterLex they will probably help you a lot with gaining clients. He writes about freelancing but I think the concept would be the same.

Update Jan 12 :

Alright my last approach wasn't working to well , actually not at all. Thanks to some input from the great forum users here I designed a new approach with their advice and also from some basic sales books. Here it is : Sales Cycle V2.png

Basically its comprised of :
1. sending a short referral email to get referred to the right person within the business who deals with my services. This email will contain a brief one sentence description of what I do also. ( Im selling fb ads and Im targeting small local businesses 4-20 employees )

2. Once I get the referral I send the decision maker a brief email about what I do , how I can help , and attempt to set up a meeting.

3. Have the sales call and qualify.

4. Once qualified they will begin a 2 week trial/demo . Once I get them results it goes into the proposal...

5.Present proposal , contracts etc

6. Close and resume client services.

What do you guys think ?

I plan to begin implementing this new approach Monday. Feedback would be awesome

What happened to picking up the phone?

The biggest thing I see out of your email campaign, is that you don't have any results or testimonials to show support for your work.

What type of businesses are you contacting?

What makes you an expert or at least proficient at doing facebook ads?

I think you have the right mindset, but have you ever launched an ad campaign before? If not ... you may want to restructure your approach and see where else you can provide value for these businesses.

First - you are selling a very premium product. $1K a month, ongoing, is serious.

Second - you are spamming. Do you have any idea of how many spam emails I get a day? Over 50, average. Is yours going to stand out? Nope.

Third - I also sell a high priced service. For my clients, I call and spend a fair amount of time finding out how THEY work their solution to what I am selling. I usually can improve on that. Now I have something to work with that is solid - AND I have a contact. THEN is the time to follow up your conversation with an email. In fact, not only an email, but a drip campaign. Then call them in a few days. Rinse and repeat.

Fourth - My gut reaction is your price is too high. You don't know what you're asking for a small to medium size company to commit to 1-2K a month. If I were you, I'd 'partner' with them and I'd get the leads and sell them the leads on a cost per lead basis. Then, at least, they'd know they're getting something tangible out of their sizable investment.

One of my ventures is residential real estate sales. I can get over 300 leads a month for around $600. Can I handle 300 leads a month? No way. So my leads go into an automatic drip campaign to sort and classify them.

Marketing is a very serious business. You can do well with it, but I sure wouldn't be interested in what you're proposing as you've explained it. You have to research the competition you're up against, and I can assure you that it's pretty tough competition. You have an uphill battle, for sure.

Nevertheless, go for it. But don't use a selling technique like they sell vitamin supplements for a high priced premium marketing system. Good luck.

Hey guys update . This weeks progress was a bit different than previous weeks.

I was getting no where with my just email cold approach . So I decided to go back to the drawing board .

Previously I had neglected cold calling because I read some bs studies showing it wasn't effective . (BS case studies ) Also I didn't know how to do it effectively .

I read 2 books this week ( fanatical prospecting , and smart calling ) and took some processes from them to build off of . So this week I spent it on buildIn a phone script and rehearsing it . I stutter so it was a bit difficult but with effort I can talk smoothly.

I plan to begin cold calling tomorrow.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Also went through a major break up early this week with my girlfriend of 2 years . Depression did set in , and honestly I felt like doing nothing this week but I did not succumb to it and got work done every single day despite what I was going through .

I felt like that was a major growth point for me as previously I would have used it as an excuse to procrastinate.

It's I am proficient in ads . I got my start doing Ecom drop shipping and made some cash doing that last year . Also I worked with some FB agencies doing campaigns for them , and I also helped out some friends who are in real estate by doing their ads. All very successful well except that my ecom business flamed out after my winning product got saturated lol

I honestly believe I can help local businesses get more clients via FB ads.

Haven't got any interest via cold calling yet but I got some interest via email . I just finished doing an 14 page audit for a client today . I'm going send it off to h first thing in the morning and after they read it hop on call . Gaining abit of momentum . No sale yet but I think I'm getting warm .
