5 facts that prove Americans don’t know anything about managing money

"60% of Americans wouldn’t have enough savings to pay for a $500 expense if it came up unexpectedly"

"U.S. consumers owe $1.0004 trillion on their cards, up 6.2% from a year ago"

"owe more than $1 trillion for our cars"

And the kicker:

"Americans report being more concerned about affording that vacation (36%) than having adequate retirement savings (32%)"

Come on people! You can take that vacation when you're 70 and retired with millions! That 401(k) ain't gonna fund itself!

This sent a shiver down my spine. The sidewalk is terrifying.

There's some statistics in my new book that were utterly pathetic. When I went looking for such data (retirement funds, savings, etc.) I was expecting a certain level of futility, but when I actually found the data, my mouth was on the floor. It was much worse than I would have guessed.

Not even a weekend? Does a weekend counts as a break? Public holidays? What happened to TGIF?
I can't believe that people live for vacations instead of people having vacations as part of a wholesome life.

This sent a shiver down my spine. The sidewalk is terrifying.
It will become hell when the purchasing power of that $500 is reduced by inflation...
Most of the SCRIPTED folks have next to nothing to beat inflation, let alone create a Fastlane/UNSCRIPTED business.

Oh, so that's where the opportunity cost in my economics lessons came from!
Bravo, @MidwestLandlord ! You have become kind of a terminology guy now!

It's one thing to sacrifice some time to build a business system that buys freedom. But it's another thing if time is sacrificed for your WHOLE life just because 'time=money'.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/13/business/noncompete-clauses.html?_r=0

I made the mistake once of agreeing to a contractor position based solely on my conversation with the person hiring me. Actually I did ask to see the contract and was told "you'll see it when we meet to sign it, it's everything we've discussed". I didn't challenge that and insist on viewing the contract prior to accepting the offer. Of course on the day of signing, the contract contained a non-compete (which the company was later decent enough not to enforce). I didn't know they wouldn't enforce it, so spent a few years stressed and fearful about the future impact of the non-compete.

The crazy part was I didn't need that position, I had other options at the time. I like the concept of F*ck you position, and feel that even without having substantial assets or full control of my income stream, there was some unrecognized form of F*ck you positioning available to me during the hiring process, had I been more assertive and approached the interview and negotiation in a smarter way.

This Week in Appropriation: Kooks Burritos and Willamette Week

Portland social justice types shut down a burrito joint because owners aren't correct ethnicity. Apparently, recognizing and appreciating a quality product, and trying to import it to your home market is now "colonialism".

Script = miserable crabs telling you you can't do something because you're white/black/brown/yellow/man/woman/straight/gay/christian/muslim/fat/skinny/ugly/pretty just so they can keep you in their bucket of F*cking misery.

Even worse, in some instances, the folks might use political connections to shut down your business or thrust you into jail on fake crimes. This happens a lot in third world countries and places on the corruption watchlist. But then again, those countries or places are also poor with high level of employment.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

There are several Chipotles in Portland, Founder is a white guy. Let's see Portland protest Chipotle.
Actually happened at my place before. Forgive the slight thread derail, with edge on slight racial and politics...
Quit in protest, Muslim group tells McDonald’s, Starbucks staff

But it could happen. Of course, it is of little significance as big franchises have their production and customer channels everywhere, so one location busted might not be a killer.

Sometimes I don't know whether to bring out the popcorn or the handkerchief to wipe my tears. The 'evil' companies that they protest against are actually the mainstay of most economies, inviting lots of investments and providing good business models to modify for innovative generation. Not to mention employment....

Sometimes I think this forum is a dream and I'm dreaming because in the real world, I'm surrounded by sidewalkers and slowlaners everyday. No one in the real world shares the same beliefs as me. One guy I know has a bachelors but he's earning minimum wage, 32, and seeking a city job for the nice 401k and social security benifits. I tried to recommend him the book and he quickly got defensive/ignorant trying to convince me that the book is a scam. I freaking laughed my a$$ off on the inside but thereafter considered not telling him shit anymore bout the fastlane. Because he's been force fed the status quo:

Get a job, trade 5 days for 2, retire old and enjoy your new retirement home.

Like no lie, I feel like I'm the guy from the matrix. This forum is my only sanity lol. One guy I know asked me about how much I got in income taxes and what I did with it. I told him I still have it and I'm stacking it to launch my business and cover expenses. He on the other hand purchased a Honda Accord. But seriously, it's getting crazy, everyday someone comes up to me and tries to convince me to get a better job so I can retire with a good pension. Work hard, work 6 days, and put in over 60 hours so I can have overtime. Then after that, I should spend my money on nice things because YOLO. People get mad that I save checks, donate money to charity, and don't buy the new nikes or go to clubs. And they get mad that I disagree with their perceived notion of fun: going out, leasing new cars, buying the newest IKEA furniture, etc etc.

Sorry for the long post, rant off haha.

The longer you're out of the matrix, the more it fades away, and the more connections you make with people in your day to day life who are also outside the matrix. They are there, in your city, you just have to identify them.

Step 1 is getting out of one's day job. As soon as you do that, you are free to choose who you associate with.

Ben Carson Calls Poverty a ‘State of Mind,’ Igniting a Backlash

You aren't allowed to tell people that their attitudes, beliefs and behaviors keep them in poverty... Even if you're a person raised by a single mom in Detroit that grew up to be a freakin neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins.

Also of interest is how blatantly the headline mis-characterizes what he said.

Ok, I get how you could maybe dismiss someone who was rich/white their whole life, trying to talk about poverty.

However, you would think they would listen to someone who was once black and poor.

nope nope nope. "Move along"
