My view of failure is. Only those who swing and miss, get annoyed enough to know to swing better and hit.

I remember getting in the ring with a world champion boxer. I did really well against him, until a point where I had him stumbling and almost knocked out (not intentionally, I was just being honest and hitting him when he was making mistakes). He then reached an "oh screw this" point and opened up what I now affectionately know as five kinds of whoop a$$. He broke my guard like it was made of paper and straws. Spun, the twirliest strikes you've ever seen and I was absolutely shut down.

Afterwards I was like "this is awesome", "finally, he showed me what it takes", "that extra level of focus, feel, and blind composure".
He got annoyed enough to swing and hit. :p

Problem for me always was "who am I?". And it turns out, the answer is whoever you make yourself to be. You can be angsty, stupid, dull, or you can express yourself completely, controlled, and with a sense of melodic timing.
Those who swing hard and fast miss, those who see the prize adjust and hit.
Or at least that is how it works in boxing.

Everything that's happened to me that's GOOD…everything that's lead me to this or any other big milestone in my life, to this level of success or satisfaction……it's all been powered by a single phrase - a belief that's written in red capital letters on my white board - a phrase that I start the beginning of every important project with -- it's an email signature that freaks out new team-members, staff, and subcontractors alike...

VICTORY OR DEATH!

Wait - stay with me, just give me a chance to explain…I don't know what your gene pool looks like, but I come from a family where my grandfather died when he was 55. That age that he died is just a little more than a decade of time away for me. That means that in the grand scheme of things, my time left in this side-show called life might be… more limited… than most. Bottom Line - there's no time left to screw around.

Every day, you're either fighting, and I mean fighting HARD for a personal victory, the next satisfying moment, the next permission to be happy……or, you are DYING. Those are my choices - Victory or Death - and being what they are, I have chosen to try to go as BIG as possible. And buddy, you should, too. NO lie - TRUE Story. Because you know what happens if you set your sights on a FRICKING SPECTACULAR result and miss your goal?

You end up with just Awesome.

Or… in my case my work gets called "Freaky", "Bad-A*s", and "BIZARRE" :) And YES! I'll take it! Cause I'd rather be known for and stand for SOMETHING worth a headline, blog post, review, re-tweet, FB Photo Tag - WHATEVER - GOOD or BAD…I'll take that rather than pass quietly on into the homogenized masses leaving no evidence, not even a trace of a life that was attempted to be lived... a little less than ordinary.

The tell-tale signs of my effort might only be a skid mark, the occasional crater, or a towering inferno of miss-steps that get left in my wake, but every now and then if you're not careful…....some cosmic tumblers all click into place at once and you end up slack jawed, standing numbed, dumbfounded and in awe and stomach-acid churning disbelief at….…what YOU just accomplished. No -- No you don't have to win.

But you MUST PLAY -- ALWAYS.

Because the fact is - you don't know. You have no idea what your upside is. You don't know what your maximum speed or RPM limit is. Don't think you can kick a*s? HOW DO YOU KNOW? Have you TRIED? Don't think you can have EVERYTHING you want in life? WHO TOLD YOU THAT? Think it's going to take longer than you want? SO WHAT? I'm marching towards 50 and guess what? I feel like I'm just starting to get somewhere, not a moment too soon. And that's AWESOME - because when I woke up today, I was further along than I was yesterday. I remember thinking the same thing… 20 years ago. And so it goes, because:

Success is a CHOICE, dude.

What you choose to do and what you choose to believe will govern everything. What do YOU choose?
VICTORY? Or the next excuse? Do you chose the next imperfect situation that makes you choke off your effort. Are you waiting for a better time? Better understanding? Want less stress, less risk? Afraid of failing, being laughed at, scorned, criticized, embarrassed? Repeat after me: I AM AS GOOD AS I WANT TO BE.

Say it every morning - before you check email - before you boot-up, before your protein shake… After you pray.

Victory or Death. Break it down and choose - every decision, every thought, every action that moves you towards one result or the other. No. No one is going to give you permission to try to be great. ...so don't ask. Take it.

Strap on your Cape. Pull on your boots. Cinch up your belt and show YOURSELF what "BAD a$$" looks like. I'm really not all that special -- despite my occasional success. But you just can't kill me. I won't ever give up. So, Victory is the only radio-button on my user interface that is left to push. Even if those Victories are small, humble, and quaint - or bigger than I deserve them to be. Try installing one of those buttons on your User Interface. Push it often.

Funny Coincidence: Magazine article I recently read had a headline that said:

"You need one person to believe in you in your entire life - just one"

Look in the mirror and wave to that person. 'Cause that's ALL you'll ever need.

A legendary thread. Fantastic. Congratulations!

These quotes (and many others in this thread) reminded me of this (I know I've posted this elsewhere, but I love it so much :)

WOW...this thread just keeps getting better.

@RogueInnovation I can relate on the physical level but with a different twist.
I teach weapon disarm tactics among other things. People always enjoy the gun disarms. We train pretty hard and as realistic as possible.

Something I drill into everyone is this....When you decide to disarm a threat...when you make that commitment...you MUST follow through all the way. All the way ! Never quit ! If you don't give it your best and follow through you will fail...and in this type of real life situation..you may die.

The techniques never go perfect and everyone...everyone...when they're first learning, stops part of the way through a disarm after they screw up. I drill them hard that you DON'T stop ! Screw up...keep moving forward...improvise...finish it !

FEAR is something I teach people to manage. We use great, realistic props and situations. People are always, at first, afraid of the gun. I take a bullet out of my pocket and show them...this is what you're afraid of ? Of course they always say it can kill them. Then I give them the statistics...the reality of being shot. I give them the odds of being struck at different distances. Reality. The fear begins to subside.

When I train people this way, I extend much of this it into their professional and personal lives.

@AlltheGold great post !

Funny story, first time a guy pulled a knife on me to mug me I almost laughed.
Why?
I mean it is a strange thing to do right, to almost laugh at a guy with a knife.
The reason I almost laughed was, when he pulled the knife, I scanned his body, his wrists were bent, his feet were flat, his hips had no torsion wound up, his grip on my arm was a dumb move.

Point is, I assessed him, and didn't find him too threatening. I made sure to not do anything stupid, and looked for high percentage moves. I was wearing a leather jacket, so I knew that only pierces and slashes to hands and face/neck could do anything.

It was seriously scary, I'm not going to lie, but due to my ability to scan information quickly, I was able to become confident in my choices.

So there is yet another parallel, where how you can use the information available to you, can change what you do when you are faced with the scary situation.
Taking in more information WITH A PURPOSE can really help you regain a strong mental foundation.

- Get annoyed enough to see the goal, adjust, swing and hit
- Commit and don't stop
- Take in information with a purpose
- Let go of all the unnecessary standards, and go for the ones that matter

:smoking: Get that laser like focus working for you.

@Stephanos83 I didn't have a wallet on me (which was actually the most worrying thing)
It went down more like a scene from terminator mixed with a scene from Dennis the Menace, I looked him over, decided on the threats, then broke his grip (he was too flat footed to follow) and waited for his response 5 meters down the road, like a kid who got away from the cranky old man trying to catch me in his garden.
The plan was, assess, take strongest position, reasses. After doing what I did I had tons of options, like pulling my pockets out and saying I don't have anything, picking up something, cat and stringing him around, or leading him into a trap. But he gave up immediately, and walked off. I don't think very many muggers are actually persistant when you remove their initial power of shock and awe.
I almost went Segal on him, but, why try to kick a field goal from 45 yards, when you have a full set of downs you can play to get you closer. My segal move was going to be the groin and toes into the diapragm(this is sparta after all), or maybe go for an arrow to the knee. But I decided it really was more convenient to not get violent on him, so just took it slow and steady, and so on.
I was in a lazy mood :p
And got to mozey on that night relatively unaffected, but richer for the lessons learnt.

You know life has its ways of teaching us lessons which no teacher or parent can teach.

Today I went to a burial ceremony of one of my relatives and I learnt a lesson for a lifetime.

Death. That word is probably the most feared word in the whole of human history. It makes people DO things which they never dreamt of doing. No matter who you are or where you come from. You cannot escape it.
If everyone has the same fate then why are most people scared of it? Most people are'nt actually afraid of death but the pain associated with it.
So why live your life in fears, worries, pains, hatred and greed? Why not make your life worth remembering. Why not we live our lives to the fullest. No worries. No fears. No pains. Maybe some years from now you might be sitting in your room revisiting your past and you might be thinking " Man! Is this the life I had imagined in my teens to be? I should have done that...I could have done it...If only I get another chance...my life would have been so different." We have only ONE life. NO SECOND CHANCE mate. Either live it the way you want it to be or regret it later.

You may have read so many success stories by now. I can guarantee that almost all of them had a backstory of failure after failure, defeat after defeat. But they PERSEVERED and came out victorious.
They loved what they did. They enjoyed life.

Please man live it. Its your life. Its your journey. I am just a passersby giving you a faint glimpse of a glorious and fullfilling life ahead. Make mistakes. Learn from them. Never stop growing. Create a story and set an example for others. GO ALL OUT. PERIOD.

You know deep down what the problem is.

you feel that you don’t deserve to get rich

Afraid to fail, afraid to fly

I no longer fear failure in business because I’ve becoming quite skilled at failing. Failing doesn’t hurt so much anymore because I conditioned my brain to deal with it.

Taking action daily is automatic. Zero f**ks given

In short, change your focus, and get away from "IF you deserve it", change the game and make it "I will deserve it". Fail (but spring back fast), strain through the trivial and unwanted things, hone your skill and level of tolerance. Gain the next level of perspective and fully engage your potential.

I don't know where to start.. I know that I need to sell high ticket products, I know that I have to convince people to buy my product through good copywritng, I need to take care of them, give them bonuses, discounts etc.

But how do I start from ground zero? I never made anything of value in my entire life tbh, why? I dont have skills that are valuable.. I'm not a coder, doctor, actor, (insert some skill here that people are willing to pay for)

Also, I dont know what is possible, when I hear of pre-selling it seems to kind of uncomfortable, You sell something that doesnt exist (you have to lie that you know what you are doing, but in reality you dont know nothing about product Creation, and there is a risk that if you decide to outsource it, someone will not deliver what you asked for)

I just described one way of doing things, Im dont know about other methods..so..question remains.. How?

Dude, I don't want to tell you to be creative because you know that. Create anything. I mean anything, just for sake of creating. You must have some skills. Heck, you can record video series and get them on youtube as a private and give them away as lead magnet. Collect leads, build a list.
If you have some money, buy domain and Optimize Press and create simple product. Video, audio, pdf.
You just need to get out of that paralysis stage.
It's better if you have some idea what kind of high ticket item you want to sell so you can be strategic and create lead magnet related to your high ticket item.
But start moving. Moving in any direction is better than standing in the same place.
About preselling, you are not lying if you already have an idea and concept in place, even the first module. It's called testing market. Do you think that big media houses are recording full session of new show before they even know if people will like it? Heck no, they record few episodes and if show is successful, they continue recording. If not, they pull the plug.

Okay this is something that I didn't want to reveal to you guys, but since this is some valuable advice that can REALLY help you I'm going to spill the beans. I used MLM tactics to get out of my comfort zone every day.

Back when I was a money chasing idiot teenager, I joined an MLM called Amway. They would brainwash their "independent business owners" by telling them listen to CD's every single night. No joke...talk to a diehard MLM guy and he'll sound like a friggin zombie. He cannot use critical thinking, he cannot use logic, he has literally been re-programmed by the CD's. Everything he does, says, thinks, will be in honor of his divine master, the Lord of The Upline Distributors.

Anyway, you can use this same tactic to turbocharge the re-wiring of your mindset by creating CD's using your own voice. I created an audio CD using my own voice that I would listen to all day for multiple days in a row. It would say stuff like "I am an action taking machine. I don't care if I get rejected, I just keep moving forward. I take confident action relentlessly. I feel fear and take action anyway because I am a badass mother F*cker". If you hear something enough times then you will eventually start seeing it as undisputed fact, even if your former belief system felt otherwise.

So yea, re-program yourself...I know it sounds psycho, but it can be a very powerful way to shift your mindset and become a relentless, action taking badass mofo. Brainwashing can be used for both good and bad. Look at Hitler and how he hypnotized an entire country to justify doing some horrible things.

This was a very absurd flavor of ice cream that I just shared with you. Hope you're not weirded out by it...actually, I think we've already established that everyone is a weirdo at the ice cream shop so you must be weird too if you're hanging out in this thread bro! Get the ice cream!
I am using the same tactic for my goals. I wrote them on a paper, then record myself reading them. And now I am listening to that every day. Powerful beyond words :)

Fact of the matter is... we need to get moving in order to remove any doubt. The unknown will always seem frightening until we begin to unravel it. More often than not it will not seem so bad once we get started. If it is as bad as we fear, conquering it will only make us that much stronger.

The Story We Play In Our Head Reveals All

“I only have X dollars to start a business”, a member once told me through PM. The scarcity/lack mindset had consumed his entire life. This caused fear to set in for him. What if I spend all my money and end up failing? He took zero action because it was “safer”.

Then one day, by sheer luck he bumped into a dolphin while swimming in the ocean. Much like Santa Claus, the dolphin carried around a bag of presents with him. What was the present given this time? A NEW PAIR OF GLASSES. The kid put on the new pair of glasses and realized the truth: he was only limited by what he decided NOT to do. Like flicking a switch, he realized that the world was a HUGELY abundant place, where as long as you pick up the shovel then you can dig in and get as much of it as you want into your wheelbarrow.

He started off with just one shovel by himself…digging for days and days, barely making any cash to throw into the wheelbarrow. He wasn’t making as much money as those in the rat race…negative thoughts would occasionally come to haunt him. Why is this happening to me? I’m not trying to rob or steal from anybody. I’m just trying to make some money to take care of my family. Those thoughts would constantly taunt him, but he kept digging daily. Over time he was able to hire a crew and give them shovels. Then he upgraded the crew’s shovels and gave them bulldozers to allow them to dig more and get things done faster and more easily. He was easily making a rat racer’s annual salary in only 1 month by that time.

He never would’ve gotten to that point if he didn’t take action with that first shovel for himself…he didn’t take action for years, justifying it by saying that he was learning how to become an entrepreneur through reading books and browsing forums.

Then when he hit his mid 20’s he didn’t want to lie to the man in the mirror anymore. He could lie to the world forever, but there is no escaping the man in the mirror. He had reached the F*ck it point, humbled himself to the words of the dolphin, and took action without hesitation.

The action brought clarity to the confusion. It brought confidence because he learned that he KNEW he could change things, affect things, and that nothing could stop him if he really wanted it badly enough…the confidence came AFTER he took action and tested his perceived limits.

And that is where he learned that it is not the money that is valuable, but the person that you become that is the ultimate value.

yep. he is mastering Metaphors

Z

LOL the metaphor for that last parable was ripped directly from a conversation with Z.

Crap...it's starting to really hit me how powerful metaphors can be when used as a teaching tool. I mean, I already knew they were powerful but I never truly grasped the impact of them until they were used on me.

No wonder copywriters use metaphors all the time.

They're definitely powerful. Think about children's books which teach a lot through metaphor. So do the religious books like the Bible when you think about it! It's probably best way to translate lessons to a context that your target can understand.

All of you inspire me, really. Entrepreneurship, This way of thinking is all new to me. I have always been a low esteem, quiet, hide behind the computer sidewalker, part time slowlaner but I know I am meant for so much more. We all want the wealth that we know is out there to have but I also want to leave my mark and change the world for the better.

When I was a senior in high school a classmate of mine died in a horrible motorcycle accident on the way to school. I was crushed not just by the loss of a classmate but of the loss of such a young life. In a moment of bravery I asked the teacher If I could spill my heart to the class or I would have surely imploded. I forget the words I said now after ""ahem" years but it was along the lines of "value your time here, don't waste it on negative, selfish, ignorant one sided perspectives. Be open to the people and the world around you. Fear, hatred, sadness, bigotry, bullying are all wastes of precious, precious time."

It was a selfish act to bleed my heart out but I also felt I had to grab each and everyone of my friends and classmates and try to wake them up to what time means to each of us and how little that might be.

What really got me was when was when 6 month later at graduation the valedictorian quoted my rant in her speech to the whole graduating class, their families and all the guest there. She gave me credit at least but she didn't have to. She shared my thoughts, my words, my heart to well over a thousand people. My words had affected people and maybe, just maybe made the world a little bit of better place that day

Right now, I am struggling to start my business. obstacle after obstacle is being thrown at me and sometimes I wonder if I'm not good enough to do it. Not smart enough, Not cut-throat enough, not leadership material. On the other hand, I can't fail. I can't. This is where my path has led me and I have to try.

Reading this forum helps me to keep going, my dreams keep me going, wanting to better humanity keeps me going. and getting some ice cream wouldn't be bad either.

Thanks
Dude, I believe in you. You have a proof that you are capable of inspiring people, why don't you become motivational speaker? Look up my friend Sam Crowley, his brand is every day is Saturday. College dropout, former stutter, raised by one of 8 kids by single mother. He started with daily podcast on iTunes, you don't need money for that.
You can do it. Success is not something you pursue, but something you attract by person you become. Go get it tiger :)

You were a kid once. You were pretending you are powerful as Superman, Spider-man, Batman or Captain America. You were dreaming freely about being pilot, doctor, firefighter, movie star, rock star when you grow up. Those dreams were so vivid that you felt you could touch them. That you were really whatever you wanted to be when you grow up. You imagination was going with light of speed, you were unstoppable. Your parents, relatives, teachers and neighbors encouraged your dreams and kept telling you that you can be whatever you want to be.

Then you start growing up. Without no obvious reason, parents, relatives, teachers and neighbors changed their stories. Stop pretending, start living in the real world. Reality became everyday word. Stop daydreaming, get real, accept reality, who you think you are that you can do/be/have …. (fill the blanks).

I saw recently commercial for Porsche with great quote from George Bernard Shaw: “We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing”. It resonated with me.

The most successful people in the world are ones who refuse to stop dreaming and stop playing. Ones that keep chasing their dreams.

Where would we be if Wright brothers, Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison, Jeff Bezos, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and countless of others gave up on their dreams and settle for less.

Brian Action applied for a job at Facebook and Twitter, and got turned down from both side. He founded WhatsApp, and sold it to Facebook for 19 billions.
Sylvester Stallone was rejected countless time for his Rocky movie script, but he did not give up his dream. The rest is history.

Wake up kid in you who was unstoppable, full of dreams, ideas and had no limit. Stop settling for less, and accepting mediocre life. You are capable for more. You are creative person with dreams and vision who can be great, you just need to start. You really can’t fail unless you give up.

Live fully and get life you deserve.

I wanted to "remix" what ICK just said to help anyone reflect again with another spin.

The Story We Play In Our Head
caused fear to set in for him. What if I spend all my money and end up failing? He took zero action because it was “safer”
Like flicking a switch, he realized
he was only limited by what he decided NOT to do
digging for days and days, barely making any cash
negative thoughts would occasionally come to haunt him
Why is this happening to me? I’m not trying to rob or steal from anybody. I’m just trying to make some money to take care of my family
but he kept digging daily
The action brought clarity
he learned that he KNEW he could change things, affect things, and that nothing could stop him if he really wanted
he took action and tested his perceived limits
he learned that it is not the money that is valuable, but the person that you become

he didn’t take action for years, justifying it by saying that he was learning how
reached the F*ck it point, humbled himself to the words of the dolphin, and took action without hesitation

Perseverance, and self accountability.
Very beautiful ICK, and brave.
There is depth and passion, and pain behind the scenes of people haunted by those pesky doubts.
No doubt, that behind the scenes here is courage deserving of change. And an example of the chivalry of a business minded man/woman.

Truly, humility, perserverance, shaking away the fog, seeing your own capacity, and going forth, is the only step that REALLY matters.
Precious insight.

He could lie to the world forever, but there is no escaping the man in the mirror

And below is an added thing from what I took away from this thread
Instructions:
Expand your mental wallet by making win-wins, and giving in a domino effect
Attack your fears
Business isn't done in a vacuum, its about the connections we create
Its not you, your ideas, it is what you are doing, and time to see the power of changing what you do

How to build it:
You visualise the result that impacts change. Then courage, worthwhileness, and generosity gets you there. Gets you creating and working your a$$ off.

Open yourself to the possibility, that you not only can, but YOU WILL

Do it.
Do it for them, do it for everybody, do it for you.

Don't let up

I liked the story, but this. Whoa. This encapsulates so much of what I need to work on. I don't suffer from a scarcity mindset, but the rest of this really pops me right on the nose. I get stuck in analysis paralysis sorting through the confusion, which really only causes more confusion and options.

The times when I did just say "screw it, just do it" is when I got real results and real feedback on what I was doing.
I'm realizing that I get so caught up trying to make things perfect, that sometimes they never get done at all. What a freaking action faker.
Now to use my frustration to my advantage...

Parables are the key for keeping people interested when you have to or want to teach a lesson. It is relatable since the listener can put themselves in your shoes, and it is inspiring because you hear ti in the form of a story rather than a recitation. I wouldn't buy a book of parables like the ones you're putting in here since they fit the context of the forum specifically. That doesn't mean it's a bad idea though :)

The Newbie Thought Process:
1. Where can I make money? What can I sell?

The Dolphin Thought Process:
1. Where is the pile of traffic?
2. What do I need to do to get in front of that traffic?
3. What does it cost to get in front of that traffic?
4. Now that I know traffic costs, THEN I ask what product does the traffic want.
5. What is the cost for the product to get it to them?
6. After I got the product to them, what ELSE do they want? Then TEST and find out.

We're not here to make a quick buck off a quick sale. We're here to BUILD a BRAND to hopefully get to the liquidation event.

By golly, all of us can get the ice cream if only we learn to master the fork and spoon!

@IceCreamKid are you suggesting that a person should look for a pain point, develop a idea to service the people experiencing this pain and present them with a solution prior to having a physical concept in hand?

This goes against all conventional thinking of discover an idea, create product and present product.
Would you say your formula is closer to: discover a pain, create a solution, test the market for this solution through sales and marketing, raise awareness and generate interest, create product?
