I'm reading The Millionaire Fastlane right now. I bought it about a week ago (only a couple days after I joined here). I'm about half way into it, and the more I think about it, the more it pisses me off...

I consider myself pretty smart, a quick learner, DAMN hard working and persistent. The problem is, I was being taught the wrong principles. Society had effectively sculpted my view of what "successful" was. I was on the fast track to nowhere.

I know only a few people that I (did) consider to be successful. As it turns out, I (as well as them) was blinded by the lie that money = wealth. They have every toy you could want, but NO freedom. Now that I'm really looking at things for what they are, these guys are just WAGE SLAVES. Payments consume their lives. They work every waking hour of the day.

I put myself on the same path. I considered myself to be doing pretty well, as my household income(which consists of my girlfriend and I) is double the median household income. With that, I did what I was taught to do by society. I invested 10% in my 401 (k). I bought a fancy car and my lifestyle increased. Just recently we bought her a new car (literally a month before I found this site and book).

We're not living paycheck to paycheck, but looking at my life from this new perspective makes me mad to say the least. I wish someone would have smacked me across the face with this book 5 years ago. It's no ones fault, some times we just need an eye opener, and so far this book has TRULY done that.

I plan to finish the book and get to work RIGHT away.

You're absolutely right. I think anger is the perfect emotion in this circumstance for me though, because I know it will propel me harder and faster towards DOING something. I'll get a progress thread going as soon as i finish up the book.

Thanks for the response!

Being pissed off is a great way to influence change. Pain is a great motivator as well ... sometimes it takes the old "sick and tired of being sick and tired" to get off our butts to do anything. The real challenge is keeping that motivation.

Take a look at the INTRO forum. You'll see 9 out of 10 people there are excited to join! They're ready to jump into the Fastlane! They're fired up! They make 1 post exclaiming their fire and passion only to lose the fire a day or two later, never to return. Their sole post is the only thing that remains to a once fired up vision of the future as they fade away into the scripted life provided by society...

This thing they call "entrepreneurship", specifically Fastlane entrepreneurship is not a thing to do or a thing to proclaim, like a New Year's Resolution, it's a thing to LIVE every single day of your life.

Thanks MJ!

I understand that most people lose motivation quickly - just as much as I understand how LAZY most people are. When I set goals, I get OBSESSED with achieving them.

I don't want to talk myself up though, I want to prove myself to you guys!

They don't believe in themselves. It's a shame too. I guess we can thank our education system for that.

So much truth in this post. Ive had fleeting ideas before, and they didnt have much passion so i can see from the perspective of others about the fire dying. The project im working on has alot of passion in it though, and i hope to live it everyday until its a reality. I spent 230$ for a provisional patent, and i felt bad about spending 1.75$ on a cup of hot chocolate yesterday lol. So this isnt just some idea to me. I think i will have to buy the millionaire fastlane also. I liked your story mj, and even if i dont make it, im sure there is some great advice in your book, and i can live through you vicariously if i fail ;)

I woke up this morning with a dusting of snow on the ground...just a dusting. My mood went completely south, as it already does (I am not a morning person). I am forced to drive 20-25 min through other idiots who seem like they are obvlious to road conditions...all for 40k/yr in a cube. Not to mention, this is work I should be allowed to do from home. Get out of it all as soon as you can...I am still on my a$$ doing nothing. Like MJ said, the pain threshold is there for me, but apparently not enough that forces me to do anything except look for a job that suits my interests more + pays more until I figure out an idea. Have I taken the time to actually think about an idea? Nope. I just moan around hating to get up every morning for the box. My end of year review should be fascinating in regards to pay=work performance (not really). Therefore, I hope you muster up enough pain to actually get started on something....be sure to make a progress thread so we can follow.

I have a slightly different take on this. I don't feel that anger is an emotion that helps to drive anything in a positive fashion.

Much of the country, and even the world are conditioned to the slowlane way. We should all be happy that this is the case. Otherwise we would be forced to change to some other process.

It is the risk takers and doers that make things happen. Nobody lied to you or led you down the wrong path. You just happened into the way of the world.

Now you are looking to break away.

Keep the fire and drive. Add in control. Drop the anger.

This post hit right in my Jimmies, I've realised that when I was more uncomfortable and unsatisfied with my life I was burning trough books, researching and picking up new skills much faster than now.

I wouldn't say you're being lied to. I am repeatedly told by blue and white collar employees the path to success. These same people complain about their lack of success. The disconnect I see most people have, is they take advice to achieve a certain result, from people that have done otherwise and not received the expected result. Never take advice on how to be a millionaire from someone who's not a millionaire.

Never take advice on how to be a millionaire from someone who's not a millionaire.

Even then, make sure you do a whole lot of figuring it out yourself.

No one is going to be able to drag you through this path, only you can make the differences that are going to matter. Try not to blame people in general; those who feed you lies, those who compete with you, those who are not perfect and do not answer your whims and needs immediately.

People are good, you just have to learn how and WHEN to listen, you need to know how to set the topic up, and what boundaries you need before you discuss certain things.

Fact is, when you begin, all you have is that anger to protect you. And another fact is, it eventually sabotages you.

Imo, as much as you hate them, is also as much as you are trying to conquer some part of yourself and your goals you don't yet understand.

The best advice is to instead of getting angry, to sit down, and open things up, put perspective in the picture and constantly push out the walls that close in on you. Always say "yes it is possible" and then do your very best.
You will grind, bump, get hit a thousand times, but if you don't mind all that and are a tough spirited person that can get over all that and then give 110%, then you are exactly the kind of person that will get the job done.

"Entrepenuerialism" is no different from any other pursuit, and it isn't about the money as much as you think. All that stuff is political and popular because it is a story of "what we were denied we want for ourselves", but if you are really smart you won't focus on that.

The biggest surprise for me is that entrepenuerialism is 10% money 30% attitude 60% just making sure things actually exist.
A lot of guys get it backwards and think it is 60% money, 30% attitude and 10% making it exist.

"Slowlaners" imo, are just people that don't realise how important it is to create, how to manage money simplistically. They are NOT idiots.
It IS VERY VERY HARD to dedicate yourself to creating, even in spite of how apparently obvious it is. Most business men are still waaaaaaaaaay too money hungry and not enough driven by results (results make the revenue consistent).

MJs book, imo, is saying "leverage" yourself into a better position to make cash.
And in a sense, I believe that anyone that truly believes in that mentality should not strive to blame slow laners, but say "hey, I do what I can, I'm intelligent about this, and I deserve respect because this isn't a game, or about who is right, it is about making sure we create stuff and ensuring that our lives go well".

F*ck being angry about "the lies", just be dedicated to overcoming resistance. Be a reasonable, good hearted, and diligent soul, and make sure you do the work.
And if you are pushing, and grinding, and it feels sucky, then, good.
Now you only need to find the bowtie to put on the top.

Make your mindset pretty enough, go out, make some cash, and just forget about "slowlaners" or go and help some (that might be ill advised, as that is difficult) but I don't think they are truly worthy of any derision or scorn.

Just have good boundaries, create great product and be accountable for living well.
If one man can do it so can others. It is not easy, and mocking people that find it hard does NOT help. Trying to jerk their ego off does not help anyone at all though.

Politely leave the slowlane discussions aside, or slowly nudge them towards finding some help and taking care of stuff themselves.
No need to get narky about it, it just hurts everyone involved, because you aren't yet strong enough to say "hey, I'm here, this is who I am, don't knock me down".

Fastlane stuff is correct, you don't need anger, when you truly get it you will find more and more calm.

Wish you all the best with it
It is a rocky road
But just like keeping healthy and doing what you gotta do, its real good for you, so turn that frown upside down, and get digging deep for that gold that can only be found in your process itself.

What does that even mean? Is that even an option? I don't care is you fail 847 times. The 848th attempt might be the one. Quitters never win. Resolve today to never give up again.

Lots of good stuff in this thread. I cringe when I look back to myself in earlier life, having no idea what it was I was striving for, only to bury this lack under partying and consumerism. Wish this book had existed about 15 years ago! But would I have read it then? Maybe.. would I have taken heed and acted? Probably not. I've had to go through what I've gone through to have this fire to change my life. Everyone has different pressure points I guess, and I should consider myself lucky I've found mine.

I hope to be here in a few months, a few years even. Keeping the fire burning will be difficult, I'm sure. I just have to remember it's never to late and instead of getting angry with myself for not acting years ago, be glad I've started now, and turn the anger into a fire. There is an old Chinese saying -

"The best time to plant a tree was ten year ago. The second best time is today".

I'm in the same boat and couldn't agree more @SteveO . I used to be driven by anger, but it gets pretty tiring being angry all the time.

It's such a more productive mindset when you accept that where you are in life at the moment is a result of all the decisions that you have made up to this point. You have the power to make different decisions to change the outcome. It's up to you, not anyone else.

No need to foster anger and bitterness. There's too much to get done.
I would highly recommend reading @IceCreamKid thread on mindset. Just try to be pissed off in Candy Land, it's not possible.

I used to be driven by anger. I'm a short guy with a baby-ish face. I'm 27 and people literally think I'm 17 when they first meet me. I basically look like the opposite of what an alpha male is perceived to be. It had a really big impact on me since youth actually. When I was in elementary school, someone created a "slam book" in which 1 page was dedicated to each student in the class and there'd be nothing, but negative things said. All of it was dedicated to slamming the person.

You know what mine said? Short, insignificant, stupid, worthless. Huge impact on my mindset for years. Made me angry and hateful for years because I felt betrayed by those who I thought were my friends.

I developed the, "One day I'm gonna show them what I'm made of! I'm gonna get rich and say F you to all of them" mindset.

It made me a money chaser. It made me greedy.

It didn't work out too well haha do you think someone would want to do business with someone who comes off as angry, egotistical, and greedy? Nope.

Then I met this girl...she treated me with absolute loving acceptance despite all of my flaws. Maybe she's related to AroundTheWorld because she oozes of loving acceptance too. Anyway, the very fact that this was the first person who treated me with loving acceptance made me want to do everything to help her get to the next level. I wanted to do everything to help her reach her dreams.

This girl changed me. She helped me realize how much power there is in treating others with loving acceptance in a world where everyone places judgment on others.

When you accept others with full loving acceptance and genuinely want to help them achieve their dreams without any attachment to your personal gain, they will love you in return for it. They will want to help you too.

There is definitely a human side to business and I think the majority miss that part because they are so focused on searching for that next big idea...not realizing that if you really focus in on loving others then you become a magnet for ideas, mentors, and all the other neat stuff.

I have no one to be pissed off at except myself. I always had choices, still do. I worked hard at my job to be successful at my job. Nothing wrong with that. Problem is the conditioning we accept, not because it was fed to us. I do not behave or do everything exactly as I was taught. I was always aware of my surroundings and choose to do what I wanted. I think the job path was easy, I was conditioned and resisted change.

Sometimes the right thing at the right time can make an impact. It did for you and it did for me. I too will be watching for your progress thread. Realizing the potential is one thing, making it a reality is another.

Don't loose the passion @passion518.

OK, so you are pissed off. Really though I really hope you own it yourself.

There are way too many people in this world that have developed a victim mentality and think that because they were fed something doesn't mean they can't immediately spit it out....

Good luck on your endeavors...
