Individuals will split up the seperate work with other more experienced people or try to do everything them selves. If you are talking a ground up project then it will wind up not being 100% most likley. I used to have a developer that chopped up design work to someone else. Once i learned some programming myself i started looking at what he had done for me and it was about $4k of hacked up work.

There are plenty of US based development companies out there, do some searching, get with local communities and act as if you were hiring an employee, call and check references of at least 5 clients of similar sites. It is certainly going to cost more but that is offset by not wasting it later on with shitty code and absent programmers.

(lets remove the incredible challange of insurance right now and pretend that it isnt near as hard as it would be in real life)

I would optimize the site for whatever the main product is ( car insurance, life insurance, etc) This would put you on a great path to getting organic search in the future.

Next I would set up social media pages on most of the major sites ( Facebook, Twitter, etc) and make sure that someone is checking them frequently.

Then I would buy some display advertising targetted to my target markets websites. (jalponik, car forums, mom forums, etc) If you get into the nitty gritty, everyone needs this product so you can buy cheaper media in those places.

I would make sure my product or offering is going to be stellar so the it garners great reviews as quickly as possible. Even incentivising that people leave them. Social proof is becoming the way of the future so this would be a top priority to get rolling.

Of course you could get into some guerilla campaigns to get things shared socially on facebook and the web(think targets black friday commercials) This could be done by copying yet changing the elements of what people have already done successfully.

I would have a backend that is structured to handle and test different landing pages in real time. This kind of thing is a major testing game, you can even test via geographical location.

Really you are talking about something very intense as far as getting traffic. I would try to get traffic on a local level first and identify who my customers are and what works best for them in terms of offers and landing pages to present those offers.

Of course this is all theoretical because i simply havn't ever started a company of that scale or aspirations but those are key points that I would be hitting on right now. Social proof and branding.

There is real time A/B testing tools even all the way to google website optimizer. But ultimatley you would probably want to code something yourself that worked for what you needed. Until then you could use something simple and free like google website optimizer, it will just be manual work. Make sure your landing pages have one specific goal, Simplify them until they do and test. You have to make it easy and trustable for people to leave you for information until you get heavy social proof.

Are there ways to generate different headlines and such for your landing page or do you just have 50 different landing pages?

someone searches: car insurance in New york

Can your landing page generate that based off of whatever keyword they click on, do you even want that or is it smarter to rewrite some copy based off of the fact that you know that they are coming from new york.

or would it throw them to something like xyz.com/landingpages/ny

? Since you do not care about what gets indexed (or ideally dont have it indexed) for pages in PPC, you can rewrite the headlines or change copy/elements based on the searchers keyword and match their intent. This doesn't work for SEO so typically you would try to optimize pages for groups of targeted keywords for each page. Either way you are talking big tasks and a lot of work. If you are starting a company, i would test things on a local level before trying to manage the amount of data coming from a national campaign.

I have seen a person or two utilize the content network to get extremely cheap traffic in bigger industries bidding for very longtail keywords.

You should have a good sense of communities in your industry already from when you were doing research on the industry, if you get involved in those communities you will typically see references to other smaller or more niche communities/sites.

You can get in and buy direct advertising, but you said this was a national level company. But much like in the physical world you have to have a goal, and a purpose/need to fill.

Then you can work threough the "how to"'s and "do what"'s of getting there.

I am a teriible forum interlinker but i think there is a list of 'legendary threads' listed here and have several threads on figuring out what you want and where you want to go. I just urge you not to over read the internet and everything it has in it. Use your own sense of judgement of what is good advice and what is not.

Possibly one day when i can get a talented writer I can take those folks up on their offers and launch some products, but I will never be on the affiliate side.

If you wanted to start this now would you look for that writer on elance? I am a terrible writer, to which my blog gets the blunt end of emptiness and a backend full of unpublished posts. I would need someone who can take my general ideas, and make them into a compelling story that people want to read, or a technical writer who can take my plans and make them actionable. I imagine it would be a task to find.

The e-products "make money online" is a snake oil shill market where the top "earners" are just the next gen infomercial marketers who make mediocre income of the the churn of glazed eyed new suckers rolling into the market. There are quite a few people who have come out on the market exposing it, but the newbies never really see it.

The thing is, there is a market for it, so someone has to fill it. I would rather be in a longer term market making a real difference(debatable) vs dealing with the "guru" types. The folks that i know that make big time incomes... most of them you will almost never see or hear from... They are very hard to get to know, but provide a wealth of information if you can.

There is no point in spending 2k and just putting it out there hoping it works. All the big sites started out small and cheap and modified with what their users wanted. I would modify an existing framework to do what you need it to do and be the middle man for the time being.

Get leads and hand sell them yourself. In doing that you will get a feel for your potential clients and pricing structures. You will also get a feel for what information they are looking for. If you have to hand some leads out or give them their first few leads for free to get them hungry for it, i would suggest doing that. That way your customers already know what you are providing is worth paying for. Pay per lead in this industry is probably going to be the best route to provide the clients the best possible value for their money.

What is the best way to sell more?

Hey Kak, I suggest targeting smaller business' that have the owner on site. Depending on the way you are doing it, you need to make an efficient pitch to the owner and it has to make sense. Commercial building owners and managers have energy costs factored into rent and CAM charges so if it is anything they don't get or care about, they wont bother. Even if you are dealing directly with the energy company lowering the costs. They don't want to have interruptions of service or billing issues since they typically own multiple buildings and they are all pre-set up in a accounting system.

My advice is set up a way to pitch it correctly, and a system that is streamlined to where they need not change anything on their end. The other problem is since the costs are already billed out, they do not want to pay you half the savings of the bills because they can't bill that back and there is no benefit for the building owner, just to the tenants. So look for smaller business' that own their own building or are triple net and pay their own utilities

LightHouse,

Gotta thank you for the thread, you've lurked one lurker out of shadows out in the open in need of advice (refer to Sky's trainer anology...which clicked with me as well)

My ultimate goal, of course is too make money - however I'm a firm believer in MJ's words "Impact Millions - Make Millions" so before I can make money I have to figure out how can I impact people (via service, product, etc..) - that's my goal today.

I must admit that at this point I'm super paralyzed by analyzing MASS amounts of info on the internet on how to make money, research niches, etc...talk about mental overload

Little background on myself....live in Miami, FL and work for an internet marketing company that specializes in finance related affiliate marketing (credit cards, investment products, credit repair offers, etc) my sole job is to find finance based sites/blogs and literally turn them into millionaires. Given I see how some of these guys go from $0-$100k per month virtually overnight, I figured the best route would be to go into finance based affiliate marketing (credit card comparison sites, insurance, etc) only to find out how competitive that niche is and the money that is required to make it within that industry (plus all the reading in between) made me reevaluate my options

One thing I should add is that my ideal online business would be the one with passive income - build it, rank it, maintain it, get paid

Anywho, my biggest problem was concentrating on one particular thing and focusing my all on it...hopefully you have some useful tips on how to overcome this mental unorganization and lack of focus...as you will see, i'm all over the place at the moment and any advice you can give will help. I have considerable income available to invest to build a long lasting business but I'm afraid that whatever I invest it will not work due to being oversaturated, too comeptitive, not enough search volume, too much reading about everything else....and on and on and on

finance product comparison site
niche dating/membership site
drop ship eccommerce site
niche directory site within my city
finance related blog
etc

If any of you FastLaners know the cure to my problem, I AM ALL EARS (AND EYES)...IMO i have all the resources available to me if I can only focus on one thing that will somewhat minimize my odds of failing (I guess thats what I'm scared of, considering the capital is not mine, but is being pushed my way to start something) Taking action and lack of focus....two essential things are missing from my arsenal and can't even describe to you how frustrating it is...

Thanks for any replies
