Note to readers: This originally appeared at the end of 2010.

It was designed to take people out of "resolution" mode, and get them into DO mode.

So, read along, and feel free to post what you are DOING.

Just one rule:

No resolutions, or "wanna dos".

Just DOs.

OK, it's the end of the year, and you're making those resolutions for the new year.

Here's my challenge to you:

Instead of making a lot of "feel good" resolutions that will be forgotten by next week (or by the morning after), instead, this year:

DO.

Instead of making a resolution, DO SOMETHING NOW.

Anything.

THEN post.

Not before.

Want a suggestion?

Develop a roadmap for your Fastlane PLAN.

Click here for exercises/steps on how to do it:

https://www.thefastlaneforum.com/your-goals-your-fastlane-plan/544-how-develop-your-plan.html

Yes, it takes time. More than the .0000006 seconds it takes you to make some flaky resolution that is worth it's weight in feathers.

Most folks can get at least part of the exercises done in one evening (uninterrupted).

Here's the thing:

If you DO it, you will be well on your way to entering the fastlane.

So, if you've spent the last ___ years of your life WANTING to do something, or TELLING OTHERS you're "GOING TO DO" something, but have been too busy/too afraid/too drunk/(insert excuse here), why not break out of your rut, and try this?

DO.

SOMETHING.

NOW.

Then post to this thread.

What will you DO?

-Russ H.

  • First action is removing and unfollowing slowlaners on Facebook, Twitter and Google Reader.
  • Just upgraded all my WordPress sites to the latest version.
  • Cut hair and dress up everyday even I am working from home.
  • Cook more at home now. Keep 152lb for 4 months so far.

Back to work ...

I reorganized all my papers and computer bookmarks. I spend so much time compiling information but I never actually do anything with them and they just pile up.

I threw out all the one's that are no longer relevant, and I sorted the rest into folders.

Good job on that! From experience, I know how crippling letting that pile up too long can be.

I'm almost finished reading MJ's book (read 27 chapters now). I'm maximizing my time by using the 'Life University' strategies; driving, exercise, waiting, toilet, etc.
Personal List:
* Read more books (So far so good)
* Keep learning and putting it to action, personal example: I taught myself few a days again how to change an internal HDD for a notebook in less than an hour. I was over the moon and very modest to have a new set of skills.

-Russ H.

Funny reading this because here I was thinking to myself "Why the hell would I make a new years resolution."

This is exactly what I said to my friends tonight...

"If I need to make a change or fix something in my life I would do it right this minute, not wait for new years."

I did setup an LLC that goes into effect Jan 1st 2011. So I guess you could say it's time to start learning how to do more paper work. :smx4:

A most excellent idea, Russ. Thanks for posting it.

Prior to finding MJ's book a week or so ago, I was already working on a concept for what would qualify as Fastlane. After testing a prototype site I scrapped it and went back to the drawing board. Based on what I learned from the prototype and from The Millionaire Fastlane , today I am assembling the material for my new site, and am conceptializing site #2 which will tie directly into site #1.

2010 was about expansion for me. It didn't happen as big or fast as I wanted but we did expand. We planned for over 100% expansion and got about 50%.

2011 will be about efficiency. We have a lot of waste in the business as a result of the expansion, it's got to be cleaned up. We will still do some expansion, probably 10-20%. I still need to got into a workout program and eat better, this is tough for me. Have a formal plan for taking our business to a much larger scale or go in another direction. Hint: Those at B&P 2011 will hear about other possibilities.

Wow, Greg, we should talk.

The past 4 years have been all about expansion for us.

2011 is all about efficiency, productivity, and increasing revenues.

This is not the "DO" I'm talking about in this thread-- b/c I'm not going to post here until I actually DO.

My first post will be at the end of tomorrrow, 1/1/11

I've cut my hair to be more web-presentable. Although it isn't much, it's still an action that pulls me back on course with my plans. December has been by and large a month with more distraction than production. Today (It's hitting 12 as I post this) is blocked off for one where I get to work on my project and get the new month started right.

Guess it helps to actually click post...

As a guy who once had a scruffy beard and hair down my back, you will be *shocked* at how differently people see you. I find that w/short hair, I can hang w/dead heads, or wall street types. The long hair and beard never allowed that (since I wasn't a famous rock star).

Lots of renegades dress down (ie, corporate) these days. I still remember talking to a gal on a cross country flight. Just before we were going to land, she opened her purse and started putting in all of her piercings (at least the ones on her face and head). I was *stunned*-- since her clothes were of a financial sector type (and indeed, that's what she did in NY).

But she was coming out to SF to party w/her bf, and was just getting into her "non office" look.

Being a chameleon has some real advantages.

1. Quit smoking (little social smoking at most to be realistic).
2. Get fit and healthy (following sleeping and workout routines).
3. Finish college with Credit/Distinction average.
4. Spend more time with family, friends and partner.
5. Expand business and introduce new marketing techniques.

Don't know what else to add.

What I DID today:

1. W/my right hand guy: Took done all of our outside Christmas decorations (5 houses). We purposely designed our outdoor stuff this year to be easy/fast to put up/take down--- to save time.

w/my wife and 4 yr old daughter:

2. Cleaned out and WASHED our fridges (6' wide), reorganized them, tossed the stuff we're not going to eat (or is expired).

3. Started on the kitchen re-org. A ways to go here. But a good start!

4. Took all the interior Christmas decor down at our house and and both main inn houses (common areas are more than 3000 sq ft of space, total 15 boxes of stuff and 3 trees). Two of our innkeepers helped w/some of this.

Taking a break for dinner, then we'll . . .

. . . oh, right . . .

Can't talk about it until I DO it. :)

Lemme give a quick suggestion for something you can do for this. Get rid of Internet Explorer for Chrome, or Firefox. :smxB:

I've been on Chrome ever since Safari drove me nutz half a year ago.

Faster, great searches, and quick page loads (doesn't wait for those awful ad sites-- just loads the rest of the page and gives you a "not avail" section for the ad stuff I don't wanna see anyway.

Haha, if you thought Safari drove you nuts, don't ever try Internet explorer. Biggest piece of garbage ever. For users, and also web designers\devs. Hardly follows standards :S

--

Chrome, and Firefox each have their advantages of - it doesn't really matter which is used as long as one less person is using IE.

Edit - On Topic: I got the layout of my weekend project (website) to a "good enough" point.

Oh, I also beat "Very Hard" AI on Starcraft 2. ;) - Haha, not Fastlane, but a quick game of that helps figure out a problem when I get frustrated. Isn't it weird how sometimes the best way to figure something out is to just throw it to the back of your mind for a bit?

I got some new domains for Xmas. I bought them on Dec 24th at about 11pm. I sure know how to party on Xmas eve!

Spent last week including new years eves working on it. Did I tell you that I knew how to party.
:fireworks:

Now on Jan 1st, 2011 it's officially a full fledge ecommerce store, ready for business.

I also officially hired someone to help me run my ebiz stores.

For some reason I like to work when everyone else is out partying and I like to have my fun when everyone else is at work.

Was somebody chasing you?

Haha, no. I am training for another half ironman in April. A friend of mine that does full ironmans posted (FB) his 11 mile run yesterday morning so it motivated me to do the same.

Yesterday I also gave away some more furniture furthering the 'decluttering' agenda.

Today I finished reading the book "Market Wizards" by Jack Schwager. Great book for someone who trades or wants to.
