Fellas, I am ECSTATIC to be here!
I've built multiple business ideas over the past couple years but keep hitting a wall when it becomes time to monetize and turn the product into a healthy offering.
My latest business is a compact 4 wheeled wireless robot with a camera. It surveys hard to reach places for blue collar workers. Think mold in HVAC ducts, finding leaks behind dry wall, or navigating a tight attic.
My value skew is the two C's: cost effective and customizable.
I am a mechanical engineer by education so I know how to build shit. My product is cost effective because I built it completely from the ground up. My competitors offer inspection robots for $4000+ and it costs me $150 to manufacture one robot.
My product is also customizable to meet unique customer needs because I built it from the ground up. I know how every system works and what can be changed in what ways to solve new problems.
So, what's the problem?
As I mentioned, I know how to build shit. Building the robot was really fun.
I'm having huge troubles selling it, mainly because I've never executed a sales cycle from prospecting to close before.
The only progress I've made is a verbal agreement with a compliance company to lease my robots for customer site scans. They aren't ready yet so it will be at least a year before we can implement. For my business to be healthy, we need work that pays now.
Here's a list of what I've been doing to sell the robot:
Fellas, I want this business to succeed. Most people who see the robot think it's very cool. I just feel very stuck in finding ways to get my first sale.

Here's a list of what I've been doing to sell the robot:
- Built a lead list and cold called. Halfway through learned how to get by the gate keepers.
- Built website with custom pictures.
- Built google business profile.
- Read SOAR Selling for cold calls, Sales Bible for general sales
- Demoed prototype for HVAC vendor and got feedback from him to make robot smaller.
- Visited HVAC supplier in person to sell.
- Attended convention in person to sell and got two leads.
- Purchased 300+ custom business cards
- Hired intern to work on v2 of robot while I focused on selling. Fired intern because it was a bad fit.
- Multiple talks of advice with my friend who sells software for a living
- Currently warming up a new email inbox to begin a cold email campaign in 15 days
