Hello, all.
I am Fozeu, from Cameroon.
I've been a long-time student of the Fastlane philosophy and am currently in the trenches applying it. I've launched a business that is showing a confusing but promising set of early signals, and I'm stuck at the transition from "product launch" to "sustainable sales velocity." I'm presenting this as a case study and would value this community's brutal honesty and strategic insight.
1. The Product & The "Productocracy":
I've curated and published an anthology of african quotes (French and English). I built this book as a museum of African thought.
2. How I believe this product is a Fastlane business:
3. The Current Traction & The Contradiction:
This is where it gets interesting. With $0 spent on ads, 0 clout whatsoever, and 0 launch team, here's the data after 40 days:
3. My Hypothesis & Actions Taken:
My hypothesis is that my beachhead market is Francophone Africans and the diaspora in Europe, who are actively searching for this reconnection. But I know that this hypothesis is weak since it's only based on 3 sales.

4. My Specific Ask for This Forum:
I'm not here to complain. I'm here to solve a business problem. Given this data as well as my non-existent budget and personal network,

- The problem: The cultural and intellectual alienation felt by millions of Africans and the diaspora, who are seeking to ground their identity and reconnect with an authentic African worldview.
- The gap: Most of Africa’s great thinkers are unknown outside academia; Cultural wisdom is scattered across thousands of sources; Much content online about Africa is shallow and stereotypical; No single, authoritative, modern compilation of African wisdom from actual sages, thinkers and leaders (not anonymous), that people can easily buy, gift, or use daily.
- The product: 888 rigorously sourced quotes from over 150 sages, spanning 4,500 years of African thought, structured into five thematic sections (Spirituality, History, Knowledge, Development, Living Wisdom).
- Formats: Paperback, Hardcover ("Legacy Edition"), eBook. Published in both English and French.
2. How I believe this product is a Fastlane business:
| CENTS | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Control | It's my book, I can sell it anywhere at any time, even if Amazon kicks me out for some reason. (Though, it would be much harder without Amazon.) |
| Entry | Not many competitors in this focused niche. High editorial work required. You will hardly find any rigorously curated anthology of African quotes online. Most of the books are about anonymous ethnic proverbs (with no clear source), and not about specific words by specific people, in a specific context. Furthermore, I went as far back as 4,500 years ago, and made sure to source each of the 888 quotes. |
| Need | As already explained, there is a strong and ever-growing need of the African people and diaspora to reconnect with their intellectual and spiritual heritage. In addition, most quote books are about western thinkers. This is the one and only book that features curated, sourced quotes from African thinkers across millennia. Plus, even the west today, people are interested in alternative perspectives. Many want to look beyond the dominant paradigm and see what else the world has to offer, especially when it comes to the big questions of life. The most ancient wisdom of Humanity may be just what they are looking for. |
| Time | Well, it's a book I can sell online, so I think this criterion is clear. |
| Scale | Like most product that can be sold online, the scale potential is here. Moreover, the targeted audience is the entire African diaspora which is made of over a hundred million people. |
3. The Current Traction & The Contradiction:
This is where it gets interesting. With $0 spent on ads, 0 clout whatsoever, and 0 launch team, here's the data after 40 days:
- Organic SEO Win: On Amazon.fr, the book ranks #1 for its primary keyword, "sagesse africaine" (African wisdom) and also for "citations africaines" (African quotes). It also appears on the first page for "philosophie africaine" (African philosophy) and "histoire africaine" (African history).
- Social Proof Signal: I conducted a targeted, no-ask outreach to 34 living icons featured in the book. I received 7 personal responses, including from figures like Ama Mazama and Bennet Omalu's team, who were genuinely touched. This tells me the product's quality and mission resonate at the highest level.
- The Glaring Problem: Only 3 sales. All are the French paperback, all to separate buyers in France. (I have no idea who these 3 people could possibly be.)
3. My Hypothesis & Actions Taken:
My hypothesis is that my beachhead market is Francophone Africans and the diaspora in Europe, who are actively searching for this reconnection. But I know that this hypothesis is weak since it's only based on 3 sales.
Actions taken so far:
- Amazon Optimization: A+ Content is live but still in progress (visual storytelling, gift positioning), keywords are optimized.
- Reddit: Created a reddit account, made a sub where I share visuals of African quotes with a short explanation. I also share some of these quotes on other subs. So far, my sub has 40+ members, and my most liked post has ~400 likes.
- Pinterest: I also posted these visuals on pinterest, but I get barely any view or reaction there. So far, I have 300 monthly views across 25 pins.
- WhatsApp: Opened a WhatsApp channel for sharing quotes visuals with explanation, but still no members except immediate family.
- Facebook: I am trying to get into relevant Facebook channels in order to share quotes with explanations, but so far most groups are either trash or do not allow any body but the admin and his friends to post.
4. My Specific Ask for This Forum:
I'm not here to complain. I'm here to solve a business problem. Given this data as well as my non-existent budget and personal network,
- What do you think about this product and its fastlane potential?
- How do I accelerate conversion, not just visibility?
- How to position pricing for gift season?
4. My Commitment to this Thread:
