I saw this on a tech blog...and my mind instantly started working. If I had the extra capital, I would give this a shot myself. Maybe I'm shooting myself in the foot by posting it...but whatever!

You have to think how to turn the idea fastlane. With some tweaks...I'm thinking this could be a HUGE franchising opportunity.

Here ya go:

Owning a franchise =a job
Selling franchises = a business

You're right. I'm not talking about franchising from him. I'm talking about this could be really big if you STARTED franchising these once you had the initial business knocked out/perfected.

Yea, not a good franchise idea when the cost of the truck alone costs $180k..

I had a great idea in my head for years about a charity moving pizza truck, with a great franchise deal. Always wanted to give it a try. sell 100's of franchises, Always liked the idea. The numbers have never worked... for the franchisee's..

Sadly though I bet I could sell 100 of those quickly and easily. Just it would of never made money for them. Well not enough.

I think this is the biggest thing I've learned since joining the forum. The way people that know what they're doing think about things so much different than people that think they know what they're doing. This has nothing to do with the OP, but more so Jack and company. A couple of years ago, I would have first asked my broke friends is they thought it was a good idea. Then I would have researched where mobile food businesses bought their food. Then I would have created a menu. Then I would have set pricing. Then I would have found out that these trucks cost $180k. Then I would have tried to find a cheaper option. Then I would have given up. Just the way certain members of this forum think through opportunities is so key.

I know of a local guy who franchised his business (Beach Hut Deli). The cost of starting a franchise was well above $180k if I recall correctly. Now, obviously buying franchises isn't for fastlaners, but selling/creating a franchise is.

Maybe the $180k truck is too high of a cost to entice others to buy into a franchise. I don't know...

The whole idea behind a franchiser is that he has limited downside risk. But you, the franchisee, are doing all the work, and in return the other guy is getting a huge slice of the pie. He makes money by squeezing the franchisee. Look at McDonalds. 40 years ago, all their franchisees loved the mother corporation. But the instant this economic downturn came, the mother corporation started to squeeze its franchisees for the sake of more profits. It's the same as Google's "Don't Be Evil". A bunch of BS.
