For those who drink protein shakes, I'm curious to know what is going in your shaker. The main reason I am curious is to see if there's something better I can be using, or something new I can add.

I use 2 scoops of Lean 1 chocolate (which is the powder that Smoothie King carries), spoonful of peanut butter, then blend with half milk half water. Lean1 can be used as a meal replacement, but I've never been able to make that work, and I'd say that's my primary goal right now-replace one meal a day with a shake.

Any suggestions? What's in your shaker?

The only suggestions I have to make it more filling as a replacement shake is pull out your blender and add in frozen fruit, spinach and other greens. I don't do it because it doesn't fill me up, but it seems to work for a lot of people.

I'm using MTS Nutrition Chocolate Whey right now. I've tried a ton of brands and their flavors are the best tasting in my opinion.

I like to make a small pot of coffee in the morning (I'm the only one drinking it). I'll drink 1 cup of coffee normal with my breakfast. I'll take the other half and put it in the freezer. Right before it's time to go to work I take the now cold coffee coffee, whey protein, unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a little bit of Torani sugar free caramel syrup and mix that up in my shaker cup. Makes a pretty tasty caramel mocha Coffee protein shake...thing.

Every morning i blend oatmeal(100g), a scoop of protein, a banana or some berries, 1-2 teaspoon(s) of peanut butter and about 0,75l of half skimmed milk. Great and quick breakfast providing all of your nutrients.

My goal is to have a shake that will work as a meal replacement, ideally morning or lunch, that will aid me in losing around 15 pounds. I'm 5'10", 175, trying to get down around 160. Then, the plan is to build muscle thereafter. I could be thinking about all this backwards though. When it comes to fitness, I'm lost, mainly because there is so much misinformation out there.

Muscle Milk or ON Whey, BCAAs and Creatine.

Fruit smoothies have load of sugar. I do light fruit with mostly kale and yogurt.

If you're having trouble getting enough calories in your shake to make it a proper meal replacement, add some coconut milk or cream. Note that you might have to gradually work your way up to the amount you need over a few days. Coconut products can give some people a bad stomach until they get used to it. You can also crack an egg or two into it. What's breakfast without a couple of eggs?

I recommend you start trying to build muscle straight away.
Try this for a few weeks and youll see a huge difference jog 15 minutes - do a overall body circuit 3x8 reps make sure you are working most muscle groups then go back and do another 30 minutes cardio even a brisk walk or incline does. The fat will melt and you will tone up. I lost 3 1/2 stone in 3 months doing this most nights and eating healthy.
Quicker you start the weights the quicker you will see your body change and tone.

My mentality has been burn some fat first, then add muscle. Okay, what you say sounds like a good plan.

Trust me mate Iv tried that Cardio (jogging) only the past 18 months I have lost weight gotten really fit and felt great.
But it doesn't shed fat or tone you up anywhere near adding weights to your workout. Also you add the pounds on really quick again.
Hit YouTube and watch some videos https://www.youtube.com/user/ScottHermanFitness this guy isnt too bad for talking about technique.
In terms of shakes i have used them only briefly I'm not fond of them Id rather have a meal must be a mental thing for me.

Athlean X is by far my favorite YouTube fitness subscription. Honestly though, I've walked, jogged, swam and all that but building muscle burns fat.

It's the same type of mentality in working out as it is in business - What will you do that others wont? Are you going all the way? A year ago I weighed 220, now I'm 169 and 9% BF. I did not do that by walking.

Sure jogging works, but if you want it done HIIT and weights are the way to go. Yoga, biking and swimming if you have joint issues.

Looks good, price per pound is fine. I'm interested in the chocolate. How does it taste?

I use Garden of Life Raw Meal as part of my morning routine along with drinking a half gallon of cold water and apple cider vinegar to start the day. I mix it with water or organic almond and will mix in various fruits to suit my taste that day. My doctor recommended it and it works great for me and it has 34 grams of protein per shake serving. It comes in several flavors. The flavor is not bad, but I really don't care about that with my shakes. It's all about what is in it. I also have another Raw Meal shake later in the day along with another homemade supplement shake that includes ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, flax seed, kiwi, green apple, lemon, blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry.

My shakes are just part of an overall nutrition and supplement plan that I strictly follow Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday are my 20% days where I vary from the plan a bit. I do weights 3X per week and cardio 6 days per week. I have a friend who has been doing HIIT for a year with no weights and doing 100 reps each of push ups, pull ups, and squats. Works for him. He lost 30 pounds using Garden of Life Fit and continues to use it as part of his eating/supplement plan.

And it's not as clean as you may think. Just naturally flavored. Notice how it's called "Natural 100% Whey" instead of "100% Natural Whey."

If you want extra clean whey (grass fed cows and such), price shoots up quite a bit. Otherwise, if you want something that is easy to find with a good price and fairly clean, I recommend it

I love it because it not loaded with artificial sweeteners.

I generally alternate between BSN Syntha-6 (Hands down the best tasting protein shake available - highest ranked in taste on bodybuilding.com and actually genuinely tastes like something I would drink for dessert) and some sort of mass gainer because I am working on gaining muscle. For a while I was mixing my protein with some sort of smoothie - both for taste and to spike my insulin levels pre and post workout, but I honestly didn't think it was worth the hassle of preparing and making the smoothie and the price to keep fresh fruit available for 2 smoothies per day.

Now I just make my shake with a scoop or two of organic chia powder, powdered protein, coconut water, and milk and down it. At the end of the day, taste is great but you aren't drinking the shake to enjoy yourself, it is to make physical gains so just bite the bullet and bottoms up!

In my blender:
1 to 2 scoops Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex Natural
1/2 cup frozen, wild blueberries
1 serving yogurt
1 medium sized banana, ripe (I like my bananas sweet)
2 tablespoons golden flax meal
1 serving plain oatmeal
1 tablespoon natural peanut butter
1 tablespoon honey
roughly 1/2 cup - 1 cup 2% milk to get everything spinning nicely.

I have had this same shake every day at 12:30pm for the last five years, and I never get tired of it.

Choc isn't bad, but I don't drink it straight up with water. I at least use milk or coconut milk.

My shake recipe:

1.25 cups milk
1 banana
1 scoop strawberry protein
1/4 cup steel cut oats (ground in a coffee grinder)
1 tsp flaxseed (coffee grinder)
1 tbsp coconut oil
1 tsp olive oil
half a kale leaf

This gives me 500+ calories, twice per day.

First thing in the morning: Hulk Load

4 leaves Kale
1 cucumber
2 Stalks Celery
1 Hunk of ginger (about the size of thumbnail)
1 clove garlic
Splash of apple cider vinegar
3 TBSP hemp seeds ( if you are not eating hemp seeds, you are missing the boat)
A little ice and a little water to get it to blend.
This will give you an unbelievable shot of energy and mental clarity. It will also insure that you gut is functioning efficiently, if you know what I mean!
