Good job...Do you care to tell us what kind of consultant you'll be meeting with?

A friend (actually my nephew by marriage) that has his MBA with a consulting concentration. He has worked with one startup company since graduating last December. He is offering his assistance in return for the experience of doing another start-up.

He and I spoke today about what research I need to do (due diligence) and he's going to work closely with my wife and me to get this started.

I just signed up for hosting with Apto to get the ball rolling a little farther down the entrance ramp to the fastlane. Now I have the domain, the hosting site (school site was too restrictive to use, even though it was free) and an idea. HERE WE GO!

This week has been busy.
I met with a local investor from this board
I met with a new investor and her husband and came up with a possible plan
I played Cash Flow 101 for the first time (and won)
I met with a CPA today to go over strategies and real estate investment. (Big thanks to Dianne and others for Questions to Ask.)

This has been a working week for me. For the next 17-20 days we will be enjoying the truck races and Indy at Texas and take a much needed couple of weeks around the gulf coast.

Finished the floors on one of my apartments. Posted it up for rent, finally! Put in bid for another income producing property that was accepted. Still have a lot of hoops to jump through before closing though.

I can see that "retirement" and leaving the rat race behind has made you even more active. Congrats!

Did some more research to overcome some writers block. Gotta make sure my "book" isn't a 50-page pamphlet.

Today we paid off the loan on my wife's car. We are now totally out of consumer debt, and no plans to gratify ourselves until our business can easily pay for the toys per our PLAN.
Only thing we have now is our student loans (currently in school).

-Pulled out my cashiers check for down payment on my house. Got a pleasant surprise, I needed 2k less then I originally thought I would need.
-finished the two chapters of "Your Money or your life"
-Did a little more reading on self storage.

Goal for the weekend
-Do some of the exercises mentioned in "Your money or your life". Particularly jotting down everything I own and value.
-Get 1 more chapter read in "Your money or your life"
-Reading 2 more ebooks on self storage. (They're short)

Got a tenant moved in today. Received an offer for a FREE mobile home. Found out no deed restrictions on a piece of property I'm working on buying. Posted 2 more units for rent.

Congrats all you guys. Lot of successes today!

I usually find writer's block
for non-fiction writing
is due to lack of research.
If you know enough sh$$ on the topic,
you won't ever suffer from it.

I'm coming up to about 4 years
of a post a day on ClientK
(before that, it was RoadToForbes).
When I don't have anything to say,
it is because I've been lazy in doing my reading.

It kind of applies to fiction writing too.
If you know your characters well enough,
you'll have plenty to write.

I have a deal going on and it should close July 7. I have presented this deal well, done a ton of legwork on it, tried to anticipate anything that could go wrong. Wednesday the deal was dying due to the seller being uncooperative. I called for a face to face meeting rather than go through the RE agents. The seller accepted. We visited for about 1 1/2 hours Thursday. Of course I let him do just about all of the talking. In the end he agreed to help get this train back on track. So now it looks like the deal is back alive!

Good point. Writer's block wasn't the right term. I was really suffering from a lack of organization, and I needed to reassess the layout of my book. The ideas are flowing freely now. Thanks! I'll be hitting my 33% mark this weekend!

carlhooper-

Not clear with his thoughts, eh?

I think you're very clear with yours.

5 posts (all one line long), which tell us nothing.

And don't help anybody.

All you do is try to insert your spammy link.

So let's give Carl a big fastlane sendoff, from all of us:

Buh-bye . . !

Thank you Russ.
I was about to kick carlhooper's a$$.

What have I done lately?

Well, my small press sisters were moaning and groaning
about how big romance review sites
only review the big names
(they receive 6,400 titles a year plus
and have a handful of staff).
No reviews = limited publicity.

So when a BIG name review site
sent the word out
they were looking for volunteer reviewers,
I put up my hand.
Heck, I read a romance novel a day anyway,
I might as well whip up my thoughts on them.

I'm only reviewing small press.
That's it, that's all.
The happy thing is that I have 3,000 plus titles to choose from.
I doubt I'll be buying a book anytime soon.

Hey Kimber,

I have a very good friend (I'm married to her)
who has a thing for romance novels, too.
Takes her about 2 days to read one, though.

Any kind of foreign exchange program
we can work out here?

I'm trying to think of something we have
That you and hubby would enjoy.

Only thing I came up with
was bordeaux blend grape jelly
(we make it ourselves)

But then I thought
Hey, why not cut them a gift certificate
for the B&B?
Not sure if the two of you
like to drink wine and eat yummy food.

Do you?

-Russ H.

PS We could always return the books, if needed. Sharon trades all of hers in, so it's not like she's attached to them.

Dang, Russ,
I wish I could.

The thing with the review site
is that we are not allowed to share the books
(especially as most books are reviewed in eFormat,
yes, even the print books
- oh, I should mention that to Peerless).
They are exclusive property of the review site,
blah, blah, blah.
It kind of makes sense
since we get some a year before they release.

However, next get together,
I'll truck down a load of my fave romances
and Sharon can go crazy
(I've promised Spidey more comics too
- where is that guy, anyway?).

Shipping doesn't make much sense
as you can pick up resale romances for a dime
at any yard sale or even used book store.

I'll send you an e-copy of Breach Of Trust,
my first novel.

Created a quicken online account to link all my bank accounts and card together....nice way to keep track (to the penny) of income and outgo...

It automatically creates nice pie charts to show where you money goes and points out how much + or - you are each month.

This should have keep me on track, which is a big step forward IMO.

^ Agreed. The use of MS Money turned off a LOT of bad habits before I screwed myself up too badly.

Today, I went to the farmer's market for fresh local food and got an edit back from my girlfriend on my first draft of my book.
