Before I read the fastlane I really believed I needed to get to the university to make something out of my life.
I was never really sure why I went to the university. I just went because everybody was going.
I did not realise everybody lives from month to month.

I hate the university but I am not going to quit. I have 1 year to go. So I see no harm in not finishing it.
Always nice to have some paper on the wall.

I am studying Human Resource Management. I don't dislike it, but to say I am doing it with lots of passion. No.
I don't really want to become an entrepreneur, but I would like to have lots of freedom and make good money.
Good money is relative, but for me good money would be around 5k a month.

What can I do to change my course?
The way I see it, I am heading for a life I won't be excited about. I am not really sure what I want to do, and I have thought about it for years.
I now have a different approach. I just work on skillsets. I love giving presentations and I love writing.
I love to convince people. I love being creative and I love to work hard

Besides finishing school, that will take me a year, what can I do to give me a better chance to make good money? My goal is to become financial independed.
How can I develop my skill sets that I can be way more well developed than I would be now?
If I finish school I will be a HR-professional, but on the lowest scale. I am just not made for that.

Sorry if it all is a bit fuzzy, it's something I can't really get my mind around. If it was all clear I could figure it out myself :) I am willing to answer all questions with complete honousty and I don't mind if your responses are harsh if it will get me in the right direction.

I also hope I am not offending anybody with saying that I would not want to be an entrepreneur??
To talk in fastlane-terms. I am aiming for the bmw series, not so much the ferrari's and the bently's :)
I have to be realistic.
I might become a miljonair some point in life, but for now.. I am poor and unhappy about my carreer choice. My first goal is to get on the right lane and I would love some tips from the posters on this forum that 'been there, done that'. :)

Read, Read, Read... at least this is a good starting point. As you read, you will discover things that you are passionate about and come up with ideas on how to monetize those passions. Work, Work, Work... You need to be working, developing networks in the work place is a huge plus. As is discovering things you like and don't like.

Have you thought of looking into the area of specialist recruitment. I am in the UK and there are literally hundreds of agencies passing poor products (people) around from job to job (candidates) and company to company (recruiters).

However....i could probably count on one hand the ones I think are worth their salt in my particular industry. Some of these are one-man-bands working from home with an internet connection and a phone. These agencies earn commission which equates to a percentage of the first annual years salary for a successfully placed candidate and 20-30% is typical. so for example, average salary for a security specialist in the UK with a CISSP qualification is £40k. That is an £8-12k commission for each placement.

If you are good at what you do, word gets around and the product comes to you waiting to be sold.

It amazes me that most of them do not learn anything about people, specialist skills and organizational needs and wonder why they don't do very well by trying to push a product on somebody that they simply do not want or need.

Anyone can research on the internet and find out what an MCSE is, or a CISSP etc and anyone can look on the internet and research what employment trends are, what skills are most in demand, commanding the highest salary etc. This maps directly to bigger commissions.

I suggest this idea for two reasons, the first being that with one year left in Uni studying HR you are already learning relevant education and the other reason is that while researching you may well trigger a spark of inspiration to do something else that really appeals to you.

This year I discovered that I really love to be creative. Giving presentations is something I am very good at, really a talent (according to the person that gave the workshop). Also convincing people, which to me means being able influence, is something I enjoy. Not because I have power over people, more because I like to add value to their lives.

I have read a lot, but I don't think I read in the right sections. I read a lot about self improvement and I did came far (I have ADHD, and I managed to get to the university working super hard for it, coming from literally nowhere with a bad childhood.) But, now I find it time to develop more skills, or 1 skill.

I suggest this idea for two reasons, the first being that with one year left in Uni studying HR you are already learning relevant education and the other reason is that while researching you may well trigger a spark of inspiration to do something else that really appeals to you.

Next year I have an internship with a company that does recruitment, but I just don't see myself getting into HR. So much paperwork, and the knowledge accumulated over the years is just not something that gets me fired up inside.
If I could do it over I think I would go into the direction of communication. I love creating, I love a lot of aspects in communication. But, I am not going to start all over again.

Presentations? Convincing people?

Be a motivational speaker.

You don't have to run a business if you don't want to. You CAN do what you love. It just probably won't make you rich.

I just did a personality test, the Myer briggs (did it before, did it again now.
I am ESFP: Personality test based on Jung - Myers-Briggs typology

I would love to be a motivational speaker! But, that's so unrealistic haha

I don't need to become rich, I just want to feel comfortable knowing I have enough money in the bank to go around. Having no worries when the car is broke. Being able to go on vacation next week if I feel like it.

Yup, you are THE worst motivational speaker I've ever met!

Wait...

What if you market yourself as a de-motivational speaker?

You may be great at that!

Really? And how much is that?

I am sure, whatever number you come up with to feel like that, will put you in the top 1% of richness.... try it.

Being able to go on vacation next week if I feel like it.

You could work independently. With a job, this is almost impossible. Or at least I do not know how.

This is great advice.

IT recruiters here in the Washington DC area do make a good living. % of commission is very similar over here, as far as I know.

Next year I have an internship with a company that does recruitment, but I just don't see myself getting into HR.
How much money does a recruiter earn

Check the numbers and let me know what you think, ok?

Homework for you:

Assignment #1
Find at least three courses for sales jobs in your area. Come back here and report what you find out.

How much do they cost?
How long does it take?

come back here and report your findings.

Assignment #2
Go to the newspaper/craigslist/job listing/etc

Find at least 5 listings recruiting sales people.
find out the conditions of employment (salary, hours to work, etc)

Come back here and report.

Let's see if you really want to do what it takes to succeed.

Nobody told me to do this when I was younger. I wish somebody had.

I live in Europe, the netherlands

I want to earn 10k a month.
That's why I am not happy about HR, it will take a F*cking long run to even get to a high paying job.
At the age of 50 I am finally 'rich'? F*ck that!
I am not happy about the max possible payment in HR.

I am going to do the homework.
Whatever the price of the courses are, I can't afford it. But It's good for me to find out, for sure.
LOI: 5 months, 5x76,50,-
another one I found is 1980 euro
another one I found is 500.

Will report tomorrow or later about assignment 2

That is a great starting salary...

Especially as you would be getting paid $3K Euro to learn how to sell.

I'd take it in no time flat....

Yes. My starting salary as an recruiter is around 3k. After our talk on the forum I also realised, if I have to start with 3k and view it as a learning expierence to get into the 100k+ range..... it's not bad at all.
But, its still a job :)
Not really fastlane haha
But, I can become an entrepreneur with being a headhunter
