Getting my phone screen time under control in a major way, which has recently happened. Went from 6.5-6 hours a day on my phone to 1 hour. Here is what I've done to greatly reduce time on my phone:

Started practicing Cal Newport's Phone Foyer Method (highly recommend!) - my "foyer" is in my garage
Started using my old iPhone for audio programs (instead of my actual iPhone)
Started using the one sec app (highly recommend!)
Started using ClearSpace for Chrome (in case I need to look something up, it gives you 1,2,5,10 minute options)
Put email and texts on the face of my Apple watch so I don't get e-mail/text message fear of missing out (highly recommend!)
Got rid of all iPhone notifications
Grayscaled my phone
Started using my Apple watch for habit tracking (Strides)

I don't know if you have heard of this guy blueprint

But he is conducting a experiment to extend his life and I think for memory he spends up to 10 million dollars a year to do it. He also follows a vegan diet, I have a few recipes of his that I incorporate into my meals every week. Everything he is doing is tracked with scientific data that he gives out for free.

I encourage all of you to check him out, it's fascinating as hell what he is doing!

I couldn't care less what people eat, everyone should strive to feel healthy.
I checked this drawing. I really liked it, I looked at other branches on his website, I found a lot of health, nutrition and things to get a good, full sleep. Marketing is there, but it's not there. I'm sure the real fastliners have a seeding filter inside.

Wish I can see clearly trade time for money is like trade life for money, it's not sustainable.
Although don't know how to change it, this forum gives me a good start.

Martial Arts.
I have been liftin weights since the age of 17, but If I knew how incredible martial arts are for Self confidence, character building, general toughness and personal development, I would have started sooner.
I am talking specifically about striking, Kickboxing Boxing and Muay thai.
Wrestling would also be a banger, other than that I am not a big fan of BJJ, yes its very effective in sports competition, but for general toughness, learning to take punches and kicks to your head and beeing comfortable with it is just like a superpower.

Saw this question on Reddit and thought it was a pretty thought-provoking question that may lead to some interesting answers.

It can be whatever in any aspect of your life, both big and small things.
I would say switching the guards time to time is necessary, since, any time you stay stuck with the same people long term, you never grow, mature, evolve, and stay stuck in the same place. I know this is necessary since, in my experience anyway, it's always about stepping up the next phase or leveling up.

Since whom you hang around influences you whether positive or negative, it's recognizing that some individuals are just saboteurs. Coming back into the U.S. I'm evaluating whether i really want to associate with some people i did before, because I'm a whole different person. My answer right now is just leaving the past where it is, and keep moving forward, since i don't really need to look back. Some i do have to relate with, but i know to still be focused on where i want to go, and not where other people want to go.

Then meeting new people, I pay attention to their verbal words and actions since, it says a lot about who they are. How do they influence others, how do they manipulate, and i keep calling people out. It's all about knowing where you are going in life and not allowing others to get in your way.

It's not repeating history, and not following people that aren't working as hard as you to get to where you want to be. How they spend their time. I have to remind myself to not waste time participating in drama and trauma, gossip, rumors, and i focus on what i'm doing instead of what other people are doing. Stay in your own lane.

I can't tell you how much i see people that are not self-disciplined with their emotions, thoughts, feelings, and wipe themselve out and others at the same time.

Quitting social media - including YouTube.

It was a form of escapism for me. Now instead of scrolling, I read books or take a nap. Productivity has increased dramatically and I'm getting better sleep.

If I need the answer to a business problem, I buy or rent a book from Kindle Unlimited.

Switching from an iPhone 13 Pro Max to a Samsung Z Fold 5.

The folding phone is an actually innovative upgrade and has streamlined my workflow tremendously with something called Dex.

Daily journaling of my thoughts and accomplishments.

1. It has helped me gain a lot of mental clarity through studying and going over my own thoughts.

2. It has helped me to be more honest and objective in tracking my daily progress towards my goals.

3. It has helped me get over the “I don’t feel like doing it right now” or the “I will do it later” symptoms because personally I never used to enjoy writing. Wouldn’t say I’m now passionate about it but because of the immense value I receive, I do it regardless of how I’m feeling.

Pff lots of things.

Quitting instant gratification (social media, porn, video games, drugs).

Stopped caring about people’s opinion.

Started calming the mind with meditation, journaling, reading and being in nature.

Improved my sleep schedule to be consistent and not messing it up with caffeine consumption.

I'm a Christian and growing up I used to be so devout in praying and had faith more. Then along the way, I stopped almost completely and kinda felt lost in a lot of ways. But I've started praying and meditating on the Word, which has significantly improved the quality of my life. I wish I hadn't stopped and I had recontinued sooner.

Might have mentioned this somewhere in the thread, but, a standing treadmill and a desk, to compliment the normal desk.

As they say, sitting all day is today's 2 packs of cigarettes per day.

Mine was only recently, but learning to identify negative thought patterns and replace them with positive ones.

Just bought one 1 week ago and it's very good for people that work on computers all day (mandatory to use with a standing desk too)

@MJ DeMarco I work standing most days, or when I'm tired I sit on a swiss ball. Been thinking of adding the treadmill, how have you enjoyed it so far?

Do you use it for burning calories, or what's the rationale behind the treadmill?

Because sitting all day is bad. And it is starting to have a negative impact on my life. Dropping down to the gym for an hour doesn't fix 8 hours of sitting.

So now I walk a good part of the day and it has raised my caloric intake as well resulting in better fitness.

Is it not hard to type when walking on a treadmill? I have trouble typing sometimes if I move around a bit at a standing desk. I imagine a moving floor would be way harder.

How long do you try to use it instead of sitting 8 hours ? I try to use it in 30-60 minutes increments at least 2 hours and then I alternate between sitting and standing

Lifting heavy.

Understanding that to achieve anything, you must persist through the valley of despair.

Yea, I cycle on and off it. Try not to sit for hours on end.

I tend to do work that requires less mental load. I can't do "deep work" on the treadmill.

I can't do those curved monitors anymore. I can say that those stand up desks are worth it.

Eventually I'll get a new one. Don't like thr cranked versions. Electric is the way to go.

He's a Mac user. Blasphemy!

They can be such a pain to troubleshoot for the work environment I'm in right now.

Windows FTW.

Troubleshooting process for Mac:
1. Open Window
2. Grab MacBook
3. With vigorous force, chunk it out the window.
4. Congratulations you have troubleshooterd a MacBook.

I noticed quitting drinking came up a fair bit in this thread, and I guess there's some who are still struggling with it...

It may be a pharmacuetical way to go about it, but look up the Sinclair method if you're struggling with drinking.

I took the drug for a couple weeks or so before I quit alcohol completely, and haven't been back. 2 years no alcohol.

It's not even only meant as a quitting method, you can keep drinking if you wanted to. Basically it helps block dopamine/the reward mechanism, so you can still get drunk, but the cravings and the reward mechanism is lowered or turned off.

Worked for me, and don't think many people know about it, so just throwing it out there
