Consider not “advertising” your services. Go into communities as a peer, help people, and be seen to help people. Done right then people will start referring you on.

Agree with Andy, advertising like this rarely gets you the effect you want. What you want is the snowball effect that can only come once you infiltrate the tribe.

It works especially well today, because most people are too lazy or have forgotten what it means to be genuinely helpful. One task a friend of mine used to set for new sales people was to spend a day in the city and try and help at least one person - he said he'd lose count of the people that stood aghast in disbelief 'whats in it for me!?', 'How do I find people that need help?'.

Funny thing was that this was how a lot of key leads were generated.

Helped an old lady across the street? Now she's interested in what you do - oh she needs your service? Oh she happens to be part of an elderly community that all need the service too?

My single biggest advice to anyone that visits this forum without a single penny in their pocket and no idea of what to do is go outside and don't come back until you've helped people - do it every single day.

When I used to teach English i'd rock up to a cafe I knew and teach an hour for free. You can still do this today, go to any city you like and just offer yourself.

You'll find more ideas and connections in one afternoon than a year of reading books (MJ's aside of course).

Edit: People will say "What about the virus" and yes, I see in Australia this might be difficult now - but COVID is the single best use case for this that there is - people trapped and desperately lonely for weeks on end will quickly open up to you when opportunity arises - just being there for someone else can help.

Love this.

I’m in a Facebook group of 3k Irish business owners. The group owner has a business directory with over 130k listings. She has premium members of that directory too.

Every month I do a free Google Ads clinic/workshop for the paid members on Zoom. People rock up with their questions or problems and I go through it all for about 90 mins.

It’s brought referrals and business.

Someone posted looking for Google Ads help in another Facebook group of Irish business owners … where I’m not even active. About 5 people tagged me, and I’m due to talk to that person next week.

I’d do it even if I didn’t get referrals and business.
  • I get to build relationships with other business owners.
  • I get recordings I can put into my own paid membership.
  • I’m on speed dial for the owner of the business directory and even chatted yesterday about her plans for her business and how I could help her.
All because she saw me helping people in her free Facebook group.

Help people. Every. Single. Day.

Good things happen.

It makes it easier actually. Everyone's used to Zoom. You don't even have to step outside now to find groups of people you can help!
