Cialdini wrote in his 40 years old book that when you give something for free, people will be willing to reciprocate and pay you back in some way. This is an evolutionary acquired behavior response.

Nothing surprising. That's what gurus do with free e-books. What changes is the currency and the scale.

A lot of these youtubers are trust fund kids, that's how they get the $$$ to give away everyday.

Except Mr. Beast. He started off doing endurance challenges videos and closed a sponsorship deal with Honey after gaining traction and then began donating their money to streamers in exchange for some pretty powerful advertising.

He also has Crohn's disease, which either makes or breaks a person.

I agree which is why although I spend a lot of time on youtube I've never watched one of his videos I find the idea distasteful.

AFAIK Mr Beast tweeted that he's always going to keep giving things away and reinvesting into his content. He said he's in it to reach as many people as possible.

If people start to get tired of the money giveaway videos, he'll have plenty of ad and sponsorship revenue to invest in a new type of video. Then again, maybe it's the teenage/adult version of YouTube kids, where most of the videos follow the same template just because it gets clicks from 4 year old children. Like people can't resist clicking just because it's so shocking and exorbitant and everyone likes money.

People watch thousands of episodes of who wants to be a millionaire and other quiz and game shows. Mr Beasts videos are less than half the time committment of those, and arguable more binge-worthy

Capitalism is having the freedom to act.

I agree that what a lot of modern celebrities do is worthless - they're not advancing science, creating great art, writing great music, writing great novels... but what they do is being valued by enough people that they can trade that value for money.

So we're not seeing socialism, we're in a situation where people value nothingness over achievement.

I see Mr. Beast has made it into Walmart with some plant-based/gluten-free cookies, I did buy some to try. I'm guessing this is a licensing deal of some sort, because if it was in true Mr. Beast fashion, wouldn't the cookies be free? ;)

My wife was like, "who's Mr. Beast?" -- the best explanation I could give was "He's the Oprah of YouTube when she was giving away free shit."

Great to see him doing well, and expanding beyond the YOUTUBE platform. He's an example of a perfect fastlaner.

His episode with JR was one of the better ones I've heard, and there are many lessons for EVERYONE on here to come away from after listening to him.

I did a write up on it here - and to this day I still stand that some of the mindsets, principles and actions taken by him are what ENTREPRENEURIAL / FASTLANE success is all about.

You don't need to go fully 100X out like he does, but @NeoDialectic and I embodied majority of his mindset and action taking on our road to an 8 figure business. We both were chuckling while listening to MR BEAST speak, it's as if he's been in the same room with us for decades, but just devoted more time and effort to his particular craft.

The wife didn't like the cookies, but I thought they were very good! I'd definitely buy again, make for a good junk food snack.

Not to always be plugging the My First Million podcast here but his episode with them was really cool. Spoke about how much he spends per video and how he runs all his businesses and how he works etc.

Wow. The OP of this thread is repulsive.

Maybe do some research on Mr Beast and what he does for society before you open your mouth. If you did a tiny bit of research, you would see how much hard work he put into this (doing this since he's 13), how much value he provides (most followers on YouTube) and what he does with most of his money (gives to charities including one he started to feed the homeless. And he's there all the time feeding the homeless.)

People with this "hater" attitude will never make it. You're on the wrong forum.,

Maybe the first thought should be "Wow. Look at this guys net worth. Let me dig a little deeper and see why and how he's got there". Which is exactly what I did and why I have tons of respect for him.

If this continues, as it obviously has been so far, and influences others to do things similar to people who may or may not need it (it’s not even just for the poor), wouldn’t this cause inflation of some sort to the American dollar? If everyone’s rich, no one is rich.

One of the top YouTubers at the moment is a guy named MrBeast. His selling point to get views is basically him giving away obscene amounts of money/material goods to random individuals.

“The World’s First Free Store”:

“Giving $10,000 to Random People...”:
View: https://youtu.be/xhIYirjB4Yc

and most recently...

“I Opened a Free Car Dealership”:
View: https://youtu.be/3LLnjRLrvLU

At first, when he did this once or twice I was like “oh, how generous of him”.

At this point, however, he’s done this sort of thing probably over 20 times. And now I’m having some critical thoughts on the repercussions of such acts.

DeMarco frequently emphasizes being against shortcuts and being event-focused instead of process-focused. He (it seems to me anyway) disdains laziness and those who contribute little to the world but expect a lot in return.

However, what this YouTuber does for people is basically going against all of that by rewarding too many individuals (probably has rewarded >1000 individuals at this point) obscene amounts of money for doing and contributing absolutely nothing to society (in terms of the moment in which they get their $10,000+ reward — not their life as a whole).

If this continues, as it obviously has been so far, and influences others to do things similar to people who may or may not need it (it’s not even just for the poor), wouldn’t this cause inflation of some sort to the American dollar? If everyone’s rich, no one is rich.

Any time you’re averaging 10m+ views a video on YouTube, you’re having some sort of influence on the world. And he’s definitely not the only one who has started to do this sort of thing.

I just think this goes against the capitalist spirit. People work their asses off to make this world a better place, while a significant number of other individuals are now getting rewarded obscene amounts of money for contributing a b s o l u t e l y nothing. Isn’t that kind of socialism?

I know, I know, maybe I’m exaggerating the effect. But big things start small, and I really don’t like the idea of thousands of people (and growing) getting rewarded obscene amounts of money for contributing jack squat to the world.

Most people probably love the guy. I’m probably in the minority. Anyway, your personal thoughts?
Have you created a globally recognized brand? Have you created a YouTube channel that gets tens of millions of views a video?
Have you created something that millions of people enjoy watching and find value in?
Have you helped change the lives of disadvantaged people?

I didn't think so.

Try creating something like Mr. East and then you can judge his ethics.

Most of the people on earth give NO free money to other random people. I believe he did. So it's a thrilling thing to watch and entertaining. So, millions of people would watch the unique video "about a person who has done things where no person will ever do". He recorded it and posted it in youtube/other media. The monetisation of the video must have provided him with like more than $200,000 revenue and sponsor income. $10,000 give away is a fraction what he must have earned with it.

However, in my opinion, you must restrain from being the "prey" (the people who watch his videos) and you're just getting influenced/lured by the "Hunter/predator" (beast).

You have spent time watching those videos, your time earned him income. You have handed over your valuable resource (time) free of charge to him.

You must try to become the person who is the "Hunter/predator" and start hunting others than getting hunted.

I can see the way you have written, you're just thinking and straining your brain about a useless topic "whether it's real or not". Who cares?

It's ok if you're watching those to learn the tactics he uses to "how to hunt others". But stop watching all those useless videos for "entertainment".
