Is the meetup this year going to be in March again?
I don't think we are set on a date... I'm open for February and March, and both Vegas and Phoenix sound good to me.

Last B&P was the same weekend that Diane Kennedy had a seminar in San Diego so she couldn't make it, so I agree, we should try to find out if any seminar is in place with her, that sounds like a great idea. Any other potential speaker worth researching?

This will be an issue as there are not that many topics that can fit most in here... Taxes is an obvious choice... marketing maybe? --for both "regular" businesses or internet based ones... what else?

What about the paradise of Salt Lake City? Perfect weather that time of year, excellent outdoor activities, and I could come! Spring skiing in the mountians and golfing in the valley, what else is better? I would love to sit in and listen to all of you. That would truly be an unforgettable experience. Give me about two years and I will be able to attend. Where ever you have the meeting, good luck!

I'd like to throw Denver in the mix as well. As much as I'd like to travel to other locations, DIA flights are reasonable, I can check into presentations and meeting area. Hotels vary like any major city. Some are as cheap as $29 a night, but I can check on that as well if folks are interested in Colorado.

Umm...yeah. Although I like staying in seedy hotels as much as the next girl, I think I'm gonna pass on anything under $30/night. :) (Just FYI: The clip below is peppered with hilariously strong language.)

I'm in for skydiving, I'll have to stay an extra day though, doesn't that eat up quite a bit of time?

There are some great roach motels near my neighborhood :) I'm sure the rooms on East Colfax are only slightly used. :smx1:

If we do Vegas -- I vote we stay on Fremont Street. It's dirt cheap down there, where you can usually get a hotel between $29-49 during the week, and $59-89 on weekends. Also I'm kind of an expert on eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner down there for under $20 a day ;) Drinks and entertainment are pretty cheap too, unless you are a gambling addict... haha

See www.cheapovegas.com for my source of steals & deals downtown Vegas!

Cheers,

Yeah, I used to stay at the Golden Gate each year for the CES show. Folks got so they knew me, and I felt like family after a few years. It was pretty cool.

Stayed at the MGM Signature this year, though. At $150 a night, it was amazing.

I could stay downtown, although I found it to be very dirty and run down. I was really disappointed in Binions. I only played around 3 hours of poker there before I got up and left.

Wow, someone else that goes/has been to CES. Been a while since I've been in that scene, but cool to know not EVERYONE will say "eh? :coco:" at the mention of the three letter abbreviation.

Kimber still goes to CES.

I started going in 1981, when the big one was in Chicago.

Even went to the last CES in Chicago (in the 90s).

Was a featured speaker or moderator at every Vegas CES between 1990 and 2002-- typically to standing room only crowds. :)

Ah yes, the good old days . . .

We really just need to throw this one to MJ and let him decide on some options. ... I know he says he's busy...something about writing a book, remodeling a house and running a forum or something, but let's see if we can get his .02 on the whole thing, as his .02 really counts for about .10. ;)

Some of us prefer the seedier more classic side of Vegas :)

But seriously -- Binion's has just gone under a multi-million dollar rennovation, so it's going to be completely different than the last time you were there. It now looks kinda like the Palms inside.

Also the Golden Nugget is my reco on a place to stay if you require a higher end spot. That's where I stay personally, and it is definitely on par with some of the nicer properties on the strip. 500 thread count egyption cotton on the beds, plasma screens on the walls, all marble bathrooms, etc... Gorgeous clean casino floor & great restaurants. The new Shark Tank pool there is gorgeous, and the new Sushi restaurant is great. We ate at the Noodle restaurant last time and also had a great meal -- but their Buffet is known as #2 in town right behind Bellagio for Quality. If you want a cheap nice clean buffet, I usually walk around the corner to the Main Street buffet, for $8.95. Golden Nugget is about $18.95 I believe.

You won't get anywhere near those prices on the strip, and the dealers & waiters Downtown might actually remember your name, and what you drink. In those big Disneyland joints on the strip, you're dealing with a different empty suit every night, everywhere you go. Comps are also very easy to come by Downtown, so if you play at all -- even low stakes, your chances of staying for free and eating for free are pretty decent. On the strip, forget about it unless you bet $150 a hand for the 4 hour minimum per day.

Cheers,

- Hakrjak

I love the Golden Gate! They just raised the price on their shrimp cocktails to $1.99 after many years, but if you have a Golden Gate players card you can still get them for $.99 cents! They have also increased the size of the shrimp, and the horsey sauce seems to be changed slightly. Not sure how I feel about that as someone who has been eating their Shrimp cocktails for close to 10 years now... but the $5.95 Prime Rib Dinner anytime is still there, so that's what I usually get along side my shrimp ;)

My favorite part of that place is how they have the pictures of the previous owners on the wall of their Diner, and they all look like the most stereotypical mobsters you have ever seen. haha You could take these guys straight out of Good Fellas, honestly... Ahhh, the old days are gone... *sniff*

LOL. Isn't this the truth. But hotel rates can always be negotiated. If 4* hotels can be had for $60-80/nt in most cities on Priceline, then it's a pretty good chance that they could also be negotiated down to that rate - especially if we're paying for a meeting room. The key is to find out when they are facing high-vacancies. The city's Visitors and Convention Bureau can help with this.

There's enough time for just about anyone to earn enough hotel points to stay on rewards also, to offset expenses. The roommate thing also helps. Seriously. With a roommate or two, the difference between a low-rent motel and a nice place is $10-20/person/nt.

Maybe the way to proceed with this is for anyone that was interested in attending some sort of event or seminar to post:

Location
Date of Seminar
What the Seminar is about

Then we could narrow to a few choices and vote.

Thoughts?

I'm interested. Depending where and how much...

Phoenix worked well for me last time.

Would love to know the date, as I am sure it will help push me with my goals!

Impossible to please everyone, so maybe it should be just a few who decide and go from there.

How was it decided last time?

Location - be happy to host it in Dallas, but I really don't care where it is
Date of Seminar - must be around a weekend. March worked this year, but Spring Break destinations are generally going to be more expensive in March. Feb or April works for me as well.
What the Seminar is about Doesn't matter to me. Personally, while I got a TON of info - more than several books and seminars combined - I got even more from the association with like-minded entrepreneurs and investors.

Of course, I go to the CES.
Can't be in new product development
without knowing the new products coming down the pipe.

Last time I was in the Golden Nugget,
they were filming CSI.
Pretty darn cool.

Oh, not looking good for me making the B&P.
Got a book launch in February.
That is a real time suck (in a happy sort of way)

If we do it in FL, we would probably make a family trip out of it and go to Disneyworld.
