The idea to the business - Site development

Hey all,

I'm just looking for a bit of advice on my new start-up. I am developing a niche community and dating site which is aimed at a market that I am very familiar with (race/religion) but the less said the better on that considering the rules of this forum.

I am currently contemplating how to develop the website. Now, as I am a software consultant I have plenty of programming knowledge and should be able to create my own website from scratch even though web development isn't one of my specialities. However, I know this will be very time consuming so I've started looking at other options.

The first option is a CMS like Joomla, Drupal etc. I've downloaded Joomla and its pretty straightforward but the community/dating extensions are not the best.

The second option is to purchase specific dating/community software. There are many different packages you can buy that have all the necessary features but still give you the option of changing the style to suit your needs.

The third option is for me to pay a programmer to develop the site.

And the final option is as I explained earlier for me to develop the site.

Budget - I will spend what needs to be spent. I am after the best solution.

I am currently overloaded with work but really need to put some time aside to start up this business. I'd much rather spend less time on the development of the site and more on the marketing.

I believe what I am proposing has a definite large target market. There are a couple of other sites that provide a similar sort of service but not with the direction I hope to take my site.

Any ideas and advice are most welcome.
