Hello Andy @Andy Black ,

Thank you for the video. I am having troubles just getting started. Two of my biggest problems are A.) I'm spending a lot of time on college classes and activities; and B.) I am still developing the courage for being truly in the fastlane. In one of your videos, you had your son narrate one of the concepts. I hope to be a father some day as well.

Would you be willing to offer me any words of advice as a take the leap into entrepreneurship and fatherhood? Specifically, what should I be doing to hustle and find a business idea while I don't currently have one?

Thanks
Nick

Thank you @Andy Black and @IceCreamKid.

I recently hit a bit of a low in my business growth.

I was very lucky to have somebody give me advice.

I was even luckier to have that somebody repeat it over and over again, especially when I got tangled up in my own head.

It seems I found a way out the hole I was digging for myself.

I fully identify with this video.

Everybody tells you that you need to do X, Y and Z.

Until somebody comes and ignores what they tell him and proves it can be done without.

Just go out and do it.

Many people are lying to you for their own agenda. They either want you to stay where you are, or become their consumer.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm still PMing folks in the forum. 1,500+ PMs and counting.

Here's pretty much what I reply to those who over-complicate things and get in their one way:

...

"Overthinking is the art of solving problems you don't have."

My suggestion? Start by saying thank you. Hold doors open and smile at people. Don't worry if they don't acknowledge you... keep smiling.

Say hello to the cashier. Ask her how her day is going.

Write a thank you comment to a post you read in the forum. Don't just say thanks though... explain what your single biggest takeaway is, and what you'll do different going forward.

You'll start moving imperceptibly from team consumer to team producer.

EDIT: Blimey... I just checked and I've had 1,788 PMs

Business is simple: Add value. Get paid.

It’s only hard because we over-complicate it by getting in our own way, or because other people convince us it’s not that simple.

I remember getting your PM, Andy. I felt like Navin Johnson in The Jerk, when the new phone book arrived! "I'm somebody now!"

Lol. And there’s me just sending wee Thank You notes.

Just checked... 2,310 conversations now. That’s a lot of Thank You notes.
That's awesome, Andy! You've set a fine example, so thank YOU! One of my main areas of focus this year is to connect with others in more productive and meaningful ways, and to deliver value where I can. I struggle especially with delivering value to people who are more accomplished than I am, like yourself.

It’s easy and you’ve already done it. Give thanks. Amazing things start to happen.

Oh poo. The video is unavailable.

The biggest lie is that “it’s not that simple”.

How did blockbuster not see it coming.

Only way I could see it happening....

Bear in mind they were placed in one of the best possible positions market wise to morph to on demand.

  • They had the customer base.
  • A huge well known and respected brand.
  • The contacts within the industry.
  • First hand knowledge of what pirated films were doing to Warner Bros, Fox etc..
  • They were in the unique position to see the metrics before anyone else as to the decline in rental.
Also Netflix had tried to get Blockbuster to buy them out several times.

I had a DVD rental shop for a decade. I was offered the funding back in 1998 to roll out stores throughout the UK. I declined as I saw (with less than 2 years knowledge of the industry) that within 5-6 years the business would be dead and I didn't want to be tied into a load of shop leases when that happened.

I was a little too pessimistic as we ran the business profitably for ten years (actually bucking the trend). But when it eventually went down hill sales literally actually ran off a cliff. I had spent a couple of years building up an online business by then while letting the bricks and mortar store slowly decline.
