Hello guys,

Starting an affiliate Marketing website seems to be a high trend these days, everyone wants to get rich quickly or make good extra money, but a lot of people ignore the fact that it becomes harder to find niches with low competition while having good commissions in terms of magnitude, scale or even both.

As some of you know, choosing the right affiliate product/service that provides a solution for people is a must!
Does anyone has an experience with high paying affiliate programs? It is known that they are the hardest to sell or have very few potential customers which explains the high paid commissions.

-What are the mistakes to avoid when starting an affiliate marketing website?

Note that affiliate products are just a way to make decent money if well done, not a real fastlane model because it violates commandments such as control.

find niches with low competition

Why would you want to do affiliate marketing in low competition niches in the first place?

Anything with that has scalable volume, solves a big enough pain point to have an affiliate programs, and pays out a decent commission is going to be a niche with high competition.

Quit trying to find the "gold dust" in remote areas and start going after the "huge nuggets" in the popular areas.

The easiest way to play in the high competition space and win big is to look at your angle. How you promoting this product? Are you doing what everyone else is doing?

Example:
Dating is a popular niche. Most people promote it as get laid tonight or find a girlfriend. Some even do pick up artistry.

The people that moved to the next level started doing "Christian Dating" or "Jeweish Dating". Then it turned into "Date A Millionaire". This was an angle.

Eharmony's angle is that they have a proven science based dating matching system developed by a doctor that has resulted in more marriages than any other dating service. This was an angle.

You might be promoting the same offer as everyone else, but what can you change in your angle for the marketing?

Now we have Farmers Only, a site that caters to rural and farming dating where "city folks just don't get it". They are making a killing. Thats an angle. They could just be an affiliate pushing people at the end to Eharmony on the backend though via an API.

So, what's your angle? How about dating for gamers? What about dating for those just out of a marriage? What about dating for those looking for love in jail?

Your backend could be anything though, as long as it provides good value. Many affiliate dating sites will whitelabel with you and let you host and post the leads into their system.

Also, why would you want to be an affiliate?

The risk for an affiliate is the same or even greater than if you were a product owner. An affiliate is at the bottom of the totem pole for many many things.

I'd rather make slightly less and be at the top, then make the same or slightly more and be at the bottom.

First, I thank you for the insightful ideas that you brought to the table.

I really like the idea of playing in a high competition field by using a specific angle. When there is high competition it means there is still good money, unless you are the first to discover a new niche and exploit it as quick as possible before the big competition guys come.

I pointed out in my post that the goal here is not to get rich, but at this stage just learning how to sell and getting extra money so I can transfer the skills later in a fastlane model that respects the laws mentioned in the millionaire fastlane book.
