While my business partner was setting up our IG account last night for our website, he found out someone already had a IG for our brand name. Problem is, it says est 2014. But, it only has 1 follower. It's clear whoever set it up never used it again.
Questions are:
If he has this brandname on IG, could that be a conflict with our domain and app names. Essentially, can you copyright a IG page name? I checked the .gov site to see if our brand is trademarked, it's not. But I'm not familiar with trademark and copyright law.
Do you think it's worth seeing if you can buy the IG page? My concern is whoever made it clearly hasn't touched it in 2 years so I don't even know if we can get ahold of him through DM. Does IG have a way of clearing out dead wood so w can get the page? I checked IG's intellectual property rules, but since they technically made the page before we started our brand I don't know who wins that dispute.
