At first glance I figured you'd probably think I'm some sort of online lapdog for rich people, then I remembered this wasn't reddit.
Out with it then..
I've been pondering this idea for the past couple of weeks, which was manifested thanks to the "EAT THE RICH" and "TAX THE RICH" crowds that masquerade throughout society.
On one hand, they supposedly despise the rich. On the other, they actively consume and rely on upon the infrastructure as set out by the rich. Not to mention, they "hate" the rich but release new products to generate income faster than I last in bed. (Looking at you, Billie Eilish - a complete phony).
But that's a story for another day.
The whole essence of taxation is to "enrich" society with better infrastructure: better schooling, better roads, better buildings etc.
When we look at rich people, such as Elon Musk, can't it be concluded he's already made his contribution to society? Think of how many jobs he created and the impact he's had in stimulating the economy. The same can be said of Jeff Bezos.
The tax you're paying should correlate to your individual contribution to society. Sorry Reddit, but being the mod of a LGTBQEYEI+ community won't cut it.
Sometimes I can actually understand the snobiness of rich people towards the average Joe. Here's why:
The average Joe can be defined in six words:
Bite the hand that feeds you.
Contribute nothing to society through sheer laziness, do the minimum required and float through the day without a unique thought. But oh no, the guy that created a job for him? Tax the F*ck out of him. He's a rich evil a**hole and we should eat the rich.
Meanwhile that rich a**hole has provided thousands of jobs (directly & indirectly) whilst helping many more thousands (or millions) make their lives easier.
If I was a taxman, I'd stand back a second and take a closer look:
Exhibit A: Joe, 35.
Bare minimum to get by. Contributes a small portion to society by sticking the shelves at the local Warmart. Buys the new iPhone every year but hates big corps. Considers money to be evil incarnate, but somehow still complains about the cost of living.
*bonus attribute: provides security for a large Discord group by instantly banning straight, white males.
Exhibit B: Mike, 45.
Solved a massive problem faced by thousands of people around the world—and therefore—makes their lives that much easier.
As a result, he has created thousands of jobs for otherwise struggling people. With their income, his employees further stimulate the economy by buying from other local businesses.
In terms of contributing to society, are we really suppose to pretend Mike should pay more taxes than Joe?
Get real.
This is a very controversial take, I get it. But I'm tired of seeing the utter digest thrown upon those who have conquered the game of capitalism.
The end product of capitalism is always innovation. It's a feedback loop that only allows the unworthy to wield a small portion of it's power.
Thinking of levelling up and contributing more? Well, enjoy paying for Joe's daily case of beers while he actively plots your downfall and contributes absolutely nothing to society.
