Watch this movie called Company Men - about three men trying to survive a round of corporate downsizing at a major company - and how that affects them, their families, and their communities. Beautiful depiction of the dangers and risks (that MJ talks about) of having a corporate job or any job for that matter. WATCH IT.

OMG thanks for posting this. I remember when I saw this movie last year and immediately it was a MUST WATCH for the Fastlaner. It does an excellent job of portraying Slowlane entrapment, and the feeling of losing control -- both in life, freedom, and choices.

Add Revolutionary Road to that list!

I completely agree with this. I will make it a point to watch Company Men now. But Revolutionary Road... it seriously made me realize what I've given up in life for a safe, cushy, state job..

You could add "Office Space" to that list. Absolutely hilarious movie, and a look at your typical office/cubical job, and how the protagonist tries to "Fastlane" things...but in a rather illegal way. Won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it...but I highly recommend watching it!

Wow, just watched The Company Men. Talk about truly scary... it's something that definitely adds stress to anyone that is living in the slowlane (let alone the sidewalk).

I watched this I think last year. Great movie, it really shows how there's no real "security" in being an employee, even if your earning a lot.

so there is this awful movie called God Bless America, written by Bobcat Golthwait. It perfectly sums up a slow lane loser. Funny in a twisted way.

These are great explicit examples of Hollywood's depictions of the slowlane, but the slowlane ideology seems to implicitly pervade most programming pushed out by the entertainment industry.

In my opinion this movie isn't about the slow lane - It's about a few good men being screwed over by corporate greed

A note to everyone on the forums: Don't look down at people in the slow-lane, for some having a regular job and enough money to take the family on vacation is all they ever wanted.

I watched The Company Men on a flight back from London. It was ironically right after I had made the decision to begin planning my exit from the corporate world. To me it was reality as a lot of people I knew had went through the same circumstances. It also reinforced my decision to act.

A couple of other movies for the list:

The Perfect Gig...Vince Vaughn, Ed Harris, Julia Ormond
Vaughn plays a telemarkeing con man who thinks he has scored the ultimate gig.

Death of a Salesman...Dustin Hoffman
Based on a classic play by Arthur Miller. The Slowlane road to where Willy finds himself is always paved with good intentions.

Another one that illustrates the slowlane is the movie "In Time".
