sup? yo, so i was thnmkng, we live in the digital age and everything we do online is anonnmis and its hrd to get a good read on people when most interactions are online like this one you dont knw who i am.look smart.

    ---
Ok that was painful I'll stop now. How many times have we gotten an email, a response from a customer, client, or contractor that looked like that mess above? Better yet, who's ever gotten a job application like that?

Lately we've had a mild infestation of bad grammar on the forum. I don't point this out to be the Grammar Nazi (meine Duetsch IST nicht so gut). We live in a digital age. I'd venture to say the vast majority of us on TFL do most of our business through the Internet. Many of us don't have the luxury of face to face interactions with our customers or clients, so how we present ourselves is very important.

    Perception is reality

What does that mean? It means that even if you're incredibly intelligent and skilled at what you do, if your customers or clients see the above example, there's a good chance their mental image of you isn't so good. Even worse, their perception is, "if this bozo can't even type a coherent sentence, how the hell is he going to do xyz for me?!"

There's a common meme floating around the Internet, proclaiming how sloppy writing is representative of high IQ. Don't care. How you present yourself is how people will perceive you. Your mom taught you "first impressions are everything". Listen to that advice.

What this boils down to is this. How you do one thing, is how you do everything. If you can be bothered to take the extra 5 minutes to clean up your email, are you going to double check that code you just uploaded to Github? Are you going to make sure your product has been quality checked? Are you going to make sure your coaching information is 100% relevant? I don't know, but when my money is on the line, I'm not going to risk it to find out.

Take the time to polish your communication. Be intelligent, be courteous, be confident. Show the world you mean business. You can't put a fresher pressed suit on your website. Your communication skills are your image to everyone you interact with.

so what's the next level ?

the next level is TESTING how people will respond to your style on forums and so on. testing your ideas and so on.

you can't afford to make communications mistakes in the real life but you can afford it on forums.

this is like jet pilots training in a video game .

if they crash, they are still alive, they don't care, they press restart button.
in real life , they can't afford that or they die.

i don't care about people's perception of me on forums because i don't sell anything ( yet) on the web and nobody knows me

so it doesn't matter whether i get their approval or not

if they like me , fine . if not, i press restart button

so i am free to experiment because this is not the case in real life

I'm bumping this thread because over the past week I've seen so many threads that look like they were written by 5th graders.

Yeah, same this is a bit frustrating to read sometimes on here. I understand if there is some sort of language barrier and people in nations that don't speak English make a mix-up between Their and There... but if they show some coherent thought behind it and actually brings something to the table of discussion. I'm fine with that, bc the more they act on here, the better their English will get.

I don't feel like I'm even close to a breakthrough to become wealthy but I learned to look to help and it'll naturally come back to you. This kinda trait is not what i'm seeing recently. I'm guilty of the chatter as well, but i guess its an outlet for my frustration.
