Clearly, you haven't read the 1st amendment. The protection is from the government. Not GIVEN by the government, but protection from retaliation for speaking out against the government. That's what the "from" is. And funny enough, rights are given by the government too. You're not just born with them. You're born with them with the caveat that you're born within the confines of a country or country territory. A country with a government.

I beg of you, please understand what you're arguing in the future. Facts don't care about your feelings.

At what point in time? Given a certain period, those minority races you speak of didn't have the rights they have today. But they were given those rights ... by the government. Thus preventing those business owners from denying service to people based on the color of their skin or ethnicity.

How do I feel about it? I don't.

Wow, this was very depressing. You have zero belief in any of the morals or principles of liberty & freedom.
You don't even care about the fight against segregation.

What happened to "I disagree with what you say, but I will fight for your right to say it?"

We are doomed.

I'm no lawyer, but I do know that these rioters are being charged with federal crimes and they used Parler to coordinate their alleged crimes.

Is there proof that Parler was used to plan the riots at the Capitol? I have only seen where users reacted to it as it happened. Like the thousands of people that watched the New Zealand mosque massacres (50 dead) on Facebook Live for 29 minutes before reporting it to Facebook.

What liability? They are covered as a platform under 230. They can't be sued for content. Seriously? So why did they do it now?

Every post on Parler was scraped because their security was really awful and a user was able to grab EVERY post ever, even deleted posts. AND metadata. Now the FBI has all that. If I were a user, I'd try to sue Parler for not properly securing my private info.

Bad press , et al, for Amazon is also a liability. Liabilities aren't just legal.

Why did AWS pull the plug on Parler now? Really? Did you see the insurrection? 5 people dead? Feces wiped on the walls of the capitol? Etc.? And they used Parler (mostly) to organize it? I would pull the plug on you, too.

And you don't have to ask people here... Amazon came out and said why... they were warned, they were given an explanation; nevertheless, they persisted:
"This case is about Parler's demonstrated unwillingness and inability to remove from the servers of Amazon Web Services ('AWS') content that threatens the public safety," Amazon wrote, "such as by inciting and planning the rape, torture, and assassination of named public officials and private citizens."

Parler itself openly said it would limit your speech on their site (the irony!):
  • Item 9: “Parler may remove any content and terminate your access to the Services at any time and for any reason or no reason … Parler is free to remove content and terminate your access to the Services even where the Guidelines have been followed.”
  • Item 12: “You agree to arbitrate any dispute that you have with Parler.”
  • Item 13: “You agree that you will not participate in a class action claim against Parler.”
  • Item 14: “You agree to defend and indemnify Parler ... from and against any and all claims, actions, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs or debt, and expenses (including but not limited to all attorneys fees) arising from or relating to your access to and use of the Services. Parler will have the right to conduct its own defense, at your expense, in any action or proceeding covered by this indemnity." This is unusual and very noteworthy (see more below). While consistent with a theme of freedom of expression and personal responsibility for your words, this is an item that all users should be explicitly aware of and should not only be found in a terms of service agreement that few read.
  • Item 17 basically says Parler can change all these terms at any time without notifying users.
  • Some services require a Social Security number to use (Item 6).
  • Parler requires a phone number to sign up. If you grant them access to your address book, Parler will store all that information and use it as they see fit.
  • All content posted on Parler is hidden behind its login wall.
  • You have to give Parler a picture of your driver’s license and a selfie just to direct message people.
  • Pornography is banned: not just imagery, but written descriptions that they find to be lewd or explicit.

Article 230 was MEANT to allow owners to moderate content, and that's what Amazon has done:
It accomplishes this by placing the liability on the speaker of the post, not the host. Section 230 reads: “No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider.” That liability arrangement remains true even if the platform acts to curate third party content by removing or flagging it. In fact, the law was created to incentivize online platforms to be proactive in setting their own standards for content and enforcing those standards free from worry of that moderating would trigger the liability obligations traditionally applied to publishers or distributors.

Nice stealth edit after I responded.
At what point did I say I don't care about the fight against segregation?

Did you only ask me that question because I'm black?

Please, if you avoid every other question in this response, answer this: what would you say if there a website that allowed pedophiles to openly discuss their fantasies about children?

Or are you going to continue to deflect and try to appeal to the emotions of those that agree with what you have to say? Because you're responding a lot, but not saying much.
