Well after some great feedback from you all I have just relaunched my website: www.fiveinterviews.com. It is a digital product and I am selling interview scripts to businesses who don't have the expertise to know what interview questions to ask for their job vacancies. The entire script is done for them so they just have to read the script and they will get amazing hires. So now that I am live the question is....how do I market this to generate sales? I have not sold it online yet and I know that there are hundreds of ways to market your product. What I am looking for is advice on the first few steps that I should take to start generating interest and sales. Thanks everyone.

Now that my site and product are live I need to take the appropriate steps to start generating traffic and ultimately sales.

I guess what I am looking for advice on is what are the first 3 things that I should do to start driving traffic to my site?

Hopefully, you've already identified your target market. The next step is to find out where your target market hangs out on the internet, and then, get your link in front of them.

You are correct, there's millions of ways to start marketing this, but I'll give you my advice on a few steps you can take to get the ball rolling.

With your own digital product, the first (and arguably best) way to start generating large amounts of traffic and sales is to setup an affiliate program. Once approved at an affiliate marketplace (like Clickbank, for example) your product is instantly available for their thousands of affiliates to promote. Affiliates will promote your product for you and you pay them a cut of the sale.

Obviously there is a little more to running an affiliate program than the brief description above, but it should get you headed in the right direction with where to look and what to research. Clickbank mainly specializes in selling info-products. This is where I would stop first if you're interested in setting up an affiliate program. You can learn more about them here: Monetize your Knowledge | ClickBank

If you don't want to go the affiliate route, you then need to figure out a way to find and reach your target market online.

This can be done via Google, by attempting to rank your sites for various keywords that Managers and Employers might use when looking for information that your product delivers. Keyword research and SEO is a huge topic in itself, so I won't go into details on that. But, if you're interested in learning the basics of keyword research, you can view this article I wrote: How to do Keyword Research

While that article is mainly centered upon finding keywords to build niche sites around, it contains some general, basic information on keyword research and should help you determine which kinds of keywords you could potentially target in order to reach your target market for your product.

Another way would be to look for forums that are frequented by managers and business owners. Such as Forums | Manager Tools or more profession-specific forums like Foodservice Forums and attempt to connect with potential customers through signature links to your site, paid advertisements, etc. Just don't spam - you'll get banned very quickly on most forums if you run around spamming your links.

Additionally, you could start a blog section on your site, begin writing articles with hiring tips and tricks, and begin spreading those article links around the internet via social media (like facebook) and social bookmarking (like bizsugar).

Although, probably the quickest and easiest way to start generating traffic to your site would simply be to buy it. Either via Pay-per-click, like Google Adwords, or by purchasing banner spots at places like The Fastlane Forum Ads or, you can find other sites to buy ad slots from at Buy Ads | BuySellAds

Hope that helps you get going in the right direction.

Good luck.

Focus on sending paid targeted traffic such as PPC, Banner Ads to a landing page (white paper) which will build your list, offer value, survey your list (build relationship with your market) and then start to sell. This way you can work out CLV and scale by investing in all the targeted media you can get your hands on. It's all about testing.

Is Clickbank the way to go with my product really aimed at businesses and not general consumers? I originally thought clickbank would be good but I then noticed that they really focus on products for indivudal consumers (i.e. fitness). FiveInterivews is directed at businesses. Thoughts?

Hmm, maybe not. I see that your sales copy is trying to specifically target interviewers in medium/large businesses. Initially, I thought it was also targeting small business owners and managers of all types who routinely lack hiring knowledge (Why aren't you targeting them also?).

For a target market that's that specific, your best bet is probably going to be paid advertisements, like Google Adwords. And Frank is also correct, whatever you do, be sure to constantly split-test everything.

I know that there are hundreds of ways to market your product

learn what the best way is for this business. then do that.

why not talk to people to find out who needs it? there must have been a reason you came up with this. bring it to all the people you talked to in the due diligence phase.

Maybe look into Linkedin? You can probably network with people on Linkedin via profiles and through groups. Linkedin also has a feed of daily blog postings. A ton of the postings deal with interviews/HR.

-Example -
I saw a blog posting the other day on Linkedin, it went something like this:
"Learn the #1 reason why I did not hire the perfect canidate for the job"

So I clicked the link and read all about it. It turns out that the guy didn't hire the job seeker because she didn't ask the right kind of questions during the interview. I scolled down a little and I saw a ton of business owners and HR people posting reactions to the blog. The commenting system even showed the company that they work for!

I'm sure you can figure out ways to connect with the people who are reading the blogs. If you have the money then you can do display advertising on Linkedin, but it seems expensive based on my experience.

Also, if I were you then I would pick up the phone and cold call businesses. It can't hurt.
