Hey guys!
I want to create a business around a monthly subscription box but I am struggling to find what to put into the box.
So I have a question, what items would you want to be replenished every month/week, without you having to buy them separately yourself?

Thanks!

You may want to niche it down a little bit or your answers will be all over the place.

For instance:
What would dog owners love to have replenished every month/week?
Photographers?
Writers?
IT guys?
Firearm enthusiast?

You get the idea.

I came up with something already. A box that has loot of a certain region of the world(Asia, Africa etc). This loot is different every month.

Are you going to personally source this?

Is it going to be food? Gifts? Clothing? Toys?

Are you going to be able to get enough margin on this?

Also, what sets you apart from the 1,000 of they sub box companies?

You're thinking backwards.
No = I want to make money with a subscription service, what can I sell?
Yes = People want this, how can I sell it as a subscription service?

The box would include these items from that certain region: one artisan object, a snack, latest newspaper made by us, tea from that region and spice from that region.

I would say that my idea is more like a cultural learning experience. A whole different topic.

It's business.
You can either create a product and then look for people to buy it...
Or find people looking to buy something and then sell it to them....
You're doing it the hard way.
The topic is irrelevant.

Would you like to get a box full of your favourite regions items every month?

You're asking the wrong person. I'm the polar opposite of your target market. I would throw everything in the trash. It's worthless to me. But that's why you find the people first. Then once your product is ready, you already know where your customers are. Doing it product first, now you have to go find your customers (which can cost a lot of money).

I fully agree that doing market research is the most important part of starting a business, so that will be the first thing I do when this idea gets accepted.

It sounds great but Spiderman here @wade1mil is offering something very important.
How do you know why I want a cultural experience? If you don't know what it does for your customer, when your competitor comes along and does a better job you will have no idea why your customers migrated.
When does the customer want to connect to somethin g which you call cultural experience? Maybe that is not the actual product, the actual job your goodies are doing.
Look into the work of Clay Christenson, "not another milkshake" and Jobs to Be Done Theory.

I know that you have found your niche, but it completely goes against your question. I'm not sure a box of African cultural items is something that I "want to be replenished every month/week, without mehaving to buy them separately myself."

I think you are going to have a tough time selling one box, let alone getting people to pay for a box each month.

I don’t think there’s a market for this. Even if there was a market finding the people interested in a “culture learning experience” would be hard to impossible.

If I had to market your idea I would market it to people from that country who now live in America. This would be a much easier market to find/target and I think would be more likely to buy.

I think there's a market but you have not identified the puose the "cultural experience" will serve. I have a sense it isn't something like nostalgia or anthropo!ogy.
Finding the purpose or job it performs is step one.on
