Good point, but using the old (Xtext 1.*) serializer, we stumbled into some severe performance issues. (I have to admit that our grammar is sure to blame for this, but we were not able to take out all of the complexity that makes serialization so hard...)
Even though our model and grammar are quite complex, the new 2.0.1 serializer performs amazingly good with it...
