Hello Forum! I've been lurking for some months after listening to two of MJ's books.
I’ve been a slow laner in the corporate world for over ten years. My specialty is in environmental consulting: due diligence for commercial property buyers, environmental compliance for companies and organizations, and remediation of contaminated sites. It’s a good industry in many ways, but not ideal for a fastlane business.
Either way I am tired of the corporate thing, but was never able to fully take the plunge into my own business. I was always wanting to go in a completely different direction (Youtube, music-making, farming, property maintenance), but lately am considering doing the environmental work but on my own. I know that I don't want to be a corporate employee for another 25 years.
I'm at a crossroads currently with how I want to move forward. I’m not a huge spender, grew up lower-class and make a decent salary, so that is an obstacle for me to break away from (the trap). My goal before reading MJ was the FIRE movement, to retire (somewhat) early or reduce to part-time at least. I like MJ’s approach better, but I’m still weighing what may be the best path for me.
I've always been entrepreneurial minded, and an "idea guy," which I know equates to very little unless action is taken. I have started up several businesses, websites, but never got much past the initial doubting phase if I’m honest. The last one (pressure washing/ window cleaning) I gave up on after a season to go back to the 9 to 5. I know some of my weaknesses and MJs books have been awesome at furthering that awareness.
If anyone here is in the environmental consulting industry would love to connect! Or if you need advice in that space, feel free to reach out. Glad to be here.
