Are you an introvert or extrovert? (If you don't know, make a free test on 16personalities.com to find out)

What are your 3 primary outreach tactics? (e.g. promo strategies - cold calls, ads, content marketing - YouTube vids, podcast, etc. )

I am asking out of personal curiosity and need of squashing my fears (get inspiration) :)

My answer:
  • introvert
  • cold & warm emails
  • Forum/boards answers/threads
  • best work & value I can provide - WoM
Thanks

EDIT:
I noticed that many people understand the introvert/extrovert concept mostly in terms of social interaction, but this concept is much more complex.

Source: 16personalities articles

"...While Introversion and Extraversion are often used in lieu of social aptitude, this scale involves more than just being outgoing and social – although social skills form part of it. In a broader way, the Mind scale determines the degree of interaction with the outer world; how socially one behaves is just a part of that. In a sense, this scale is a contrast of the quantity and intensity of an experience and its quality or depth.

People who are considered Extraverts (E) in our model are not as sensitive to outer stimuli and need to seek them out in order to gain a kind of functional equilibrium and to perform well. Introverts (I), on the other hand, are more sensitive and need to escape the same stimuli in order to be more functional. Unlike Extraverts, Introverts can quickly exhaust their mental energy reserves, and they will only tolerate such situations so long before they yearn for solitude and quiet.

Examples:
Introverts are significantly more likely to report being sensitive to noise and bright colors, and they also strongly prefer simplicity and minimalism in their environment (especially if their Introversion is coupled with the Thinking trait). Likewise, they do not seek or require much external stimulation – while communicating with other people is the most obvious example of such stimulation, this concept also extends to things like hobbies, political attitudes and even eating or drinking habits. For instance, Introverts are more likely to dislike coffee and energy drinks.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Extraverts are more interested in engaging the environment – people and objects around them – and they need feedback as well. They are more energetic and willing to take the lead in many situations, especially social ones, and they enjoy pushing limits and challenging both themselves and those around them. People with Extraverted personality types are also more likely to feel that they can handle any challenges life throws their way. Obviously, whether that turns out to be true or not depends on many other circumstances, but generally speaking, Extraverts tend to be much more proactive in experiencing (and relying on) the world around them..."

Neither, just like the majority of people probably. I love to be alone sometimes and I love to be with people too.

I've seen that this introvert/extrovert stuff leads to a static mindset in general ("I can't do that because I'm a this or that"), just like most of personality tests and profiles.

Personality tests are mental masturbation anyway. They lead to nothing but to getting stuck in limited beliefs.

My tactics? What makes people buy from me, not what fits my personality lmfao.

I agree with this. I'm probably an extrovert-introvert if one exists. I love time to myself but if I need to get up and present in front of a group of strangers no problem.

-cold/warm emails
-content marketing
-solving people's problems, oh and by the way I do ______

I believe I'm actually in the middle of Introvert/Extrovert. I prefer to be involved in the community through various communication styles, voice, writing content, being in different forums, and social platforms, although they all work differently. I know emails are nice, but I prefer social contact.

Wow, the poll shows mostly introverts. Would have never guessed that here. Expected to see a 66/33 in favor of extroverts.

I am right in the dividing line when I take the personality test. Whether I want to be social or not definitely depends on the environment I am in.

I'd say I'm 55% INT and 45% EXT.

Introvert to the maximum, but I function so well that most people think I'm extrovert.
Honestly I just wan't to live deep in the forest with online business, but while I'm working towards that I will be as "extravorted" as neccessary.

Definitely an introvert.

But being an introvert doesn't mean not being cool with other people and socializing. We are humans. All of us need that. Some need more, some need less.

For me, I found that I'm immensely productive when sitting at home, turning off the TV and staring at my PC fully focused for a longer period of time to do my work or just think about my next steps/vision.

Some people would hate that. For me it's joy.

The lesson: found out which one you are. Quite frankly, if you are introspecting and thinking about that, chances are you exhibit at least some of the characteristics of an introvert ;)

Yes I agree with Softstone, it is generally misunderstood what an introvert and extrovert is.

Both can socialise really well but where an extrovert will feed off socialising and feel energised, an introvert may need to have some time alone to recover at the end of a day of networking.

I am very much an introvert but you would never guess if we met in public. The upside of being an introvert is I am happy working from home all day just with my music and dog!

Thanks for your reply, @Longinus, but I disagree because you are generalizing, instead of writing if YOU think about it like this (most probably you do based on that answer).

Static mindset/Personality tests being mental masturbation are only true if I let them be true. I think awareness is the first step to change and improvement. It's my choice if I dismiss them completely or chose to focus on using them as tools for improvement.

Care to share what your tactics are? ;)

Really surprised as well. I figured introverts would take it, but not by a land-slide.

One of 4 extroverts as of this moment.

I could be social all day every day. First to the party, last to leave. Really energizes me.

I am an introvert no doubt. I can play the whole outgoing social charming guy well in public but the truth is I hate being around people. It is draining.

I can't wait to get out of almost all social interactions.
Thanks for sharing @Timmy1990 , same on my sidea . Even few days in the office require at least 1 day of "anti-social" activities ...

Personality tests are mental masturbation anyway. They lead to nothing but to getting stuck in limited beliefs.

One thing I think they are really useful for, is for gaining a deeper understanding of someone who is different than you.

A lot of my inter-relationship conflict went away when we did those tests and I realized that my significant other was wired up a lot differently than I was.

It's like getting to peek inside their brain.

I don't have a tactic anymore I guess it's just second nature now how to communicate with people, but I just hate small talk with a passion and people love it. Pisses me right off.

My time in sales gave me good social skills so I just use that stuff when out. Stuff like mirroring, rapport using the FORM guidlines, finding common ground or things in common, getting people to talk about themselves etc. You gotta do it, you can't be a recluse.

Even when I'm enjoying conversations it still drains my energy like nothing else.

Thanks for sharing @amp0193 , same here. We did these tests at home and at work and it immediatelly makes things clearer. I understand more about them and myself and vice versa. Makes collaboration easier and more productive.

What outreach tactics do you like to use?

Paid advertising, Instagram and partnering with influencers/celebrities, Instagram DMs for b2b deals.

Going to try to build up my dealer network on a 5,000 mile road trip this summer.

Cool, those sound really interesting! I have already seen one success case with the road trip visits. Works really well for great personal connections.

How successful are you with Instagram DMs for b2b deals? I might be biased because we worked mostly with high-profile influencers and they almost "never" reply to their DMs. E-mail worked really well though ... However, I think with smaller accounts, it's easier, correct? Less amount of spam in DMs, etc...

I don't think the results are surprising at all.

The majority of this forum consists of social outcasts - people that decided to think a different way than the rest of society.

Personally, I'm introverted most of the time, but I attribute that not to being a loner, but to mostly not seeing eye to eye with most people I meet. The majority of people are uninteresting or incapable of having an interaction that supersedes the entertainment value of spending time by myself.

I'd bet if the world was filled with fastlaners, we'd all say we're extroverted since we'd love spending time with others. You can probably see this at any fastlane meetup. However, the world is filled with slowlaners so we decide that spending time by ourselves is more pleasant than living out a slowlane interaction.

Put an athlete in a world of academics and he becomes the loner that likes to run by himself. Put a professor in a world of athletes and he becomes the weirdo that reads books.

Basically: whether you're introverted or extroverted is extremely dependent on your environment. Since we belong to a small subsect of people, we have to create our own world if we want to be extroverts.

It's an on-going experiment. One I'll take to scale next year. I have made some very interesting connections and some cool opportunities through Instagram DMs. It took 7-ish DMs to get a response from one celeb, but when they finally saw it, it turned into a free TV product-placement deal.

Another approach I'll be trying is a cross-channel blitz on these folks. Trying to reach them everywhere to see what gets through. Usually a non-response on a big account is going to be because they didn't see it.

I think with smaller accounts, it's easier, correct? Less amount of spam in DMs, etc...

For my business, it doesn't make sense to partner with anyone with less than a few hundred thousand followers. Standing out is a challenge yes. Still learning.

To add to that: perhaps the introvert entrepreneurs are here on the forum whereas the extrovert entrepreneurs are out at business networking groups ;)

I think we're kind of all the same, we love being around people but not too much, we prefer to be alone most of the time and minding our own business.

Being around / interacting with people all day long is not possible, just a bit each day is enough.
