Your way is not the only way. You act like no one ever quit cold, turkey or just based off of willpower.

I did.

Didn't take me two or three years. Didn't take systems or processes. It took an FTE moment that made me decide once and for all I'm done. I was a pack a day smoker.

Here's what is funny to me about your message. You guarantee him his way won't work.

But you won't guarantee that yours will.

So you take a hard line against his point, but you are weak on your own point.

You can only say what worked for you. But you're talking like an expert.

Lol.

The double standard is ridiculous. So is the ego that says that you know how to tell people how they should be living their lives. That your way is the only way. You are better than Jocko or Goggins.

Okay...

You know what's destructive? Close-mindedness. Yours is not the only way.

I also am not a fan of this thread, anyone can read my previous comments, but I don't see how you made it any better.

By the way, if we're going to talk about growth, how's your business going Panos?
My business is growing thank you very much. My net worth is where I want it to be also.

I am also the most content I have ever been. People close to me are alive, healthy and wealthy. Nobody has divorced me, and my kid loves me.

It was expected that you would straw-man what I said and attack me personally by twisting my words. You have done it in the past.

It seems like you are failing to see a holistic approach of life. It is not a race.

Success for me, means that you make small improvements over time, you do what you want to do because you chose it deliberately, and you live your life according to your values. For me my top 4 values are health, honesty, and good family and community relationships. Math is not.

Based on that I consider myself successful. I can always improve of course.

Now my fights are for the something extra. And that is an amazing place to be.

I am just trying to help someone that I see is ready to fail again.

But that is what you get for trying to help people some times. Especially, if what you say does not fill their narrative.

Humans being humans I guess..

I don't see how I twisted anything. You said his way won't work. You guaranteed it. And you aren't sure yours would either.

Is that not your point? Maybe communicate better, because all I am doing is literally quoting you and responding.

Good for you. I'm glad that works for you. Sincerely. I'm glad you are at peace and have found what works for you.

I'm not sure why that entitles you to judge others or hold them to your standards.
Math is not.

Based on that I consider myself successful.
It's called the Fastlane Forum. Maybe you don't understand the culture of the place you hang out?
someone that I see is ready to fail again.
F*ck you and your judgement.

I don't curse on here, and I don't do personal attacks, but you earned it. Your first post was a troll job and they haven't gotten much better. Telling someone they are going to fail again is how you are helpful?

[Unpopular opinion] What do people think of Panos Daras? Mine is negative.
Especially, if what you say does not fill their narrative.
This is what I mean by your hypocrisy. You only understand and appreciate your narrative.

So you judge others harshly for a weakness you possess.

Go ahead, tell me this is a straw man too. Take the log out of your own eye Panos.
Humans being humans I guess..
Or, to put it another way, look in the mirror and shut up. You aren't any better than any other poster in this thread.

Interesting that you brought up net worth. I don't recall mentioning it, or money or math. Hey, you did a straw man!

Wow, I wasn't expecting you to do that. What a plot twist!

If business is so good, where is your progress thread? My point was we still don't know what you do. What entitles you to give all this "sage advice"? Who the heck is Panos Daras besides a judgey troll who believes in holistic thinking? After being here over a year, does anyone here even know you?
Thanks guys.

In case you missed it, that guy's post was a failed attempt at humor - in line with the rest of his low-value posts and socialist propaganda.

I didn't reply because feeding the trolls is rarely useful, and I am getting tired of the drama generated by this thread. It went off the rails and is now polluting the forum with spam. I take full responsibility for this.

I've already said what I am planning to do, and I will report back here when I will have some good news (i.e. when I F*cking quit nicotine), and we then can finally put this thread to rest.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I really appreciate it.
I am not going to post anymore on this topic until the mission is completed.
FWIW - MJ himself said he approves of health progress threads.

I know you know this Heavy, I just want to mention it for anyone reading, and because I myself have spoken against them previously (and in this thread).

You are most welcome. It's a real shame you couldn't have the same message for Heavy, you self righteous prick. I get happy wishes, he gets "I guarantee you're going to fail". What a joke!

I've said that I was no longer going to post in this thread, but you've crossed the line with this one.

If this is a reference to @BizyDad 's personal life - and I really hope it's not - this is one of the most disgusting things I've read from you.

It's even more disgusting than your socialist propaganda and lamentable moaning about life not being fair.

I did not reply to your comment because I don't believe you add any value to the conversation. To any conversation.

And I would like to ask @BizyDad to do the same because this kind of arguing, with this kind of person, is pointless and obnoxious.

@Andy Black I would appreciate it if you could moderate all the useless comments starting with this one. Thank you, and sorry for the trouble.

FWIW I didn't take that personally.

A good marriage is something to be thankful for. I hope Panos or any of us never has to suffer the sting of a divorce.

Besides, you can't hurt me by telling a fact about my life. I shared it freely on this forum. And if he did mean it as an attack, it just goes to the point I was making... We know my story. We know Heavy's struggles. Who is Panos?

Apparently a guy who has conquered everything you struggle with? Come on.

The only person who can get away with saying he's better than Jocko or Googins on this forum is Black Dragon. (jokes! I bring jokes!)

Lastly, not sure what you mean by "moderated" but I would prefer to not have my comments deleted. There have been way worse fights here over the year by people who have contributed way more than Panos or I have. This is a little thing.

Good.
You have thick skin. That's one of the prerequisites of running a successful business.

But this doesn't make what he said less disgusting.

I know his posting history and didn't expect much of his comments, but using this kind of vitriolic personal attacks on intimate matters is a new kind of low.

There's a thread here.

Also, did you stop nicotine during your fasts?

Hey MJ, thanks for the tag!

I plan on writing a thread describing my experience, after:
  • I've followed my protocol for at least 1 year
  • My business(es) take off
  • I do in-depth research on the topic of autophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis
  • I have objective measurements of improved health markers (bloodwork)

I want to bring conclusive evidence of how fasting has directly improved my life and business.

Also, did you stop nicotine during your fasts?
I did not.
And I believe that nicotine has actually helped me adhere to my fasting protocol, due to its appetite-suppressant effects.

What I don't like about nicotine:
  • The fact that I'm addicted and physiologically dependent on it.
  • Unsafe method of consumption (vaping, instead of using gums or patches).
  • Detrimental effects on the cardiovascular system at high doses.

Other than that, I believe that nicotine might be beneficial for health, and is a proven neuroprotective agent.

I did nicotine for months/years, every day, both vaping and pouches, I found pouches to last much longer, 'healthier' and leave a better environmental footprint that's why I mostly went with those.

It's been 5 weeks since I last did nicotine. And it's not like I even planned it as a big event, I always wanted to stop at the back of my mind but would come back to it weeks later, cuz like: 'I don't care..', 'I'm doing it cuz I choose to', 'I can quit anytime I want' and all that other copium.

What happened is I did 2 things -
1. Removed it completely from my environment. Nowhere to be found in my house, including the empty cartridges.

That alone made me subconsciously not use it for weeks.

When I started getting the urges to do it. That's when I did the 2nd thing:

2. Bought a multi pack of premium chewing gum.
New habit is - every time I get an urge for nicotine, I would pop one of these gums.

As I said it's been 5 weeks and so far it works out nicely. Feel free to keep it in mind if you'd wanna give it a try sometime.

I did a 10 day fast many years ago and the experience was transcendent.

Did you do this while plant-based?

No, I did it because I was a hardcore carnivore and always sick. The plant-based lifestyle change occurred about 4 years later.

I'm about to start fasting again as I still struggle with sugar.

What kind of fasting schedule are you aiming for? I'll be curious to know how your experience goes, and would love to hear any tips/tricks/wisdom you'd be willing to share.

Read Fasting Like a Girl, by Mindy Pelz, might be more relevant to you as men and women fasting regimes should be entirely different due to hormones, menstrual cycles, etc.

Dr. Jin Sung on YouTube has some pretty good free content on intermittent fasting. He is also very specific on some of the issues woman may have doing fasting.

I've been doing one meal a day for 3 years now and have kept off all the weight I lost. Taking a B-complex, electrolytes and black coffee with MCT oil helps.

I'm about to start fasting again as I still struggle with sugar.

Sugar is definitely a demon. I can feel it in my body if I consume it.

I did not.
And I believe that nicotine has actually helped me adhere to my fasting protocol, due to its appetite-suppressant effects.

I used to smoke cigarettes and found that supplementing 5g of NAC(N-acetyl-cysteine) would help with the nicotine cravings. NAC helps with addictions because of its effects on certain neurotransmitters and anti-inflammatory properties. The last time I smoked a cigarette was 3 years ago.

I quit nicotine (smokeless tobacco) cold turkey last year. Wasn't a great time but it was an interesting experience. My perspective on the long-term health effects of nicotine, which I noticed mostly after quitting:

Vasoconstriction
- > Your circulation becomes worse. Over time, there are changes to your blood vessels. You lose blood flow in hands/feet.
- > You permanently lose arteries in your hands and feet
- > As a man, all this is bad for sexual performance
- > Skin becomes pale and dry, this leads to a ghostly appearance, dandruff, cold hands/feet
- > Digestive system and metabolism becomes faster
- > Wounds heal slower due to reduced blood flow
- > The gums start to recede
- > There's a number of diseases associated with nicotine, tobacco and vascular damage. I won't go into them, but when I understood how it all tied together I made the choice to quit forever. It become obvious that I had to do it.

Muscle-relaxant
- > Nicotine relaxes muscles yet increases focus, so working and staying stationary is easy
- > Together with vasoconstriction, pulse and BP increases, and as muscles are relaxed, exercise is no fun
- > The heart can become strained and start to beat irregularly

Dopamine
- > Yields more dopamine/reward than most every day activities, meaning it can replace a normal sense of achievement
- > Lowers the normal baseline production of dopamine, so after quitting, it takes months to feel normal
- > Similar to how it affects blood vessels, you are changing the pathways of neurons in the brain... and not in your favor.

Sleep
- > Disturbed sleep quality
- > Your sleep pattern will either be disregular or you will not get proper rest

Habit
- > Becomes associated with daily activities and habits, but also disturbs these activities as you become distracted by your addiction.
- > Due to the many compounding factors above, nicotine replaces healthy habits like... eating, exercising, sleeping, socializing. I've gained new appreciation for these simple things.
- > After quitting, you must be on guard, and remind yourself why you quit.

More downsides
- >
Tobacco causes inflammation
- > Social stigma
- > Cancer risk

One GOOD thing about nicotine addiction is that there is an opportunity for HUGE growth the second you QUIT.

When you quit, you are training SELF-DISCIPLINE. You learn how to KILL habits and learn how to build habits. You save MONEY.

Once you've successfully passed the QUIT test, your mindset transforms. New challenges are viewed NOT as 'ughhh I have to exercise today' BUT AS 'KNOCK, KNOCK, NEW CHALLENGE TIME MF!!'.

Instead of sitting in your comfy little safe space, you get up and do NEW things.

The stronger your addiction is.
The harder it is for you.
The bigger your opportunity is!

No doubt. It does require you to get uncomfortable.

One thing I did when quitting was to write down every time I felt a serious craving / withdrawal. Such an episode lasts just a few minutes and really is the only risk of succumbing and failing. I only experienced 13 such times. That's right. 13 times over a few days, where it felt unbearable. So, that's like 60 minutes total of actual mental pain. To quit an addiction that lasted for years. Easy, in hindsight.

Imagine how clouded the mind is, when we can't imagine ourselves quitting, when all required is 60 minutes total of actual suffering? Some people experience that much anguish every monday morning.

I also wrote a contract with myself and signed it, that I will never use again. It's weird, I know, but it worked.
