And what are you doing to ensure this isn't just some resolution that will die the third week of January?

By the end of Feb I'm going to get enough clients through the door to leave my 9-5. Then by the end of the year be turning over 20k a month with big profits. The company will have a big impact and change lives. I've got a 1/5/10 planned out with daily power actions. I've been working hard over the holiday period and am started with a test group of clients next week. Using Facebook or YouTube ads to get the first paid clients through the door while building an organic audience on YouTube. Doing daily scheduling and mindset work and going into a focused period for a minimum of 3 months.

Move to a new home, potentially somewhere with a better climate.

Build a new network around me, entrepreneurs and business owners.

Enjoy life.

Love reading these posts. There is also the thread about how your 2022 went ... for those that have not replied there, yet: EXECUTION - 2022 recap, how did it go for you?

I got the priorities wrong 100% in 2022
2023:
  • No alcohol in 2023
  • Pimp my apartment
  • No social goals or experiments in 2023, it is pressure with zero hope of success in the current situation
  • 1/5/10 Routine: Even without a clear product goal, show up and spend at least 30 mins on workdays (aim for 90 min)
  • 15-30 min Piano 4 days per week
  • 10-15 min language learning each day (Duolingo & Mondo - Russian? Thai?)
  • Restart workouts in Q1, 4 per week
  • Monitor & manage browsing / feed scrolling habits

My biggest aim is to not only get the courage to finally quit my job (Oh those steady paychecks!) but to do great work for my current clients and systematize my prospecting so I don't pull my hair out trying to dig up leads to cold call. I have work but the thought of going into the unknown has been absolutely, hair-raisingly terrifying for some reason.

If I can cover my monthly expenses with MRR by halfway through the year I'll feel like a million bucks- If I can beat my employment salary while working smarter (and hopefully less) and go on a vacation... I'd be on cloud 9.

I'll also be nurturing my health blog and building a list with hopes to develop and sell a product to them in 2024.

Best of luck to everyone.

Hey MJ, first of all, thanks for all you have done and are doing.
I've been buzzing between some self-help and entrepreneurship books for almost a year and you were the only one that really resonated with me (I'm here thanks to Unscripted ).
It's probably because I feel somewhat similar to your values and personality.

After 5 painful years, I have just quitted a demanding engineering degree here in Italy.
It never felt right to me but I kept trying because my parents cared a lot.
I was just waiting for it to click but it never did, therefore I'm finally leaving.
Even though I'm aware I'm not an "outlier", I have always believed deep in my heart that I was meant for more.
I never wanted to have a common life..

During the entire 2022 I focused on implementing good habits and removing bad habits until they became a normality.
Before the "change" I was playing video games 5 hours a day, smoking weed, vaping nicotine every day and going to bed late.
I quit that all at once, It was tough but now I'm free from any addiction and I am a lot more self-disciplined.

My desire has long been to being able to work remotely, not just because I want to discover new places and people but mostly because I want that location independence.

After months of researching, I decided the best fit for me was learning web design, and I have already started learning.

I don't want to be supported financially anymore by my parents, especially after quitting and breaking their dream.

That's why in some days I'm starting with a delivery job so I can pay rent and food while I try to make my desire come true.

My realistic goal for 2023 will be to transition from a job to full time web design freelancing.

This was my first post so I say hello to everyone and I wish you can achieve at least 80% of your goals for 2023!! (except if you are a direct competitor of mine :playful:)

In 2023 I will:
  • Be more balanced physically and emotionally. In the last week I forced myself to go rock climbing twice when I really, really didn't want to. I'm so glad I went. Today I purchased a gym membership and will be hitting the gym later. I need to slow down when I feel stressed and remember to enjoy the journey.
  • Automate more. Two days ago, after sweeping dog hair tumbleweeds off the same section of floor 4 times in 6 hours, I researched and purchased a robot floor vac. Other areas to improve on: meals (shopping, prep, cooking) and when spring/summer rolls around I need to have an automatic drip sprinkler system ready to go for the yard/garden.
  • Honor my goals and boundaries more. I feel I'm too accommodating and have a hard time saying "no."
  • Write a book. By the end of 2023 I will have at the very least a first draft of a complete book. I've been gathering content ideas and formulating a mental outline, now it's time to start writing daily.
I just learned about the 1/5/10 plan today, so I'll put that together now/tonight.

Let's get it!

  • Get in the best shape of my life, gain 4kg of muscle
  • Start every day with a short mindfulness practice, like yoga or meditation
  • Zero videogames
  • Able to make $4000 a month through a non-poker source by the end of the year
To make it slightly more likely been learning a little about how people actually change (ugh apparently you need to act). Just finished Personality Isn't Permanent which I saw recommended here and found valuable. Engineered a few simple changes in my environment, made stuff that isn't conducive to my goals harder to do, displayed a few reminders. $4000 is very arbitrary, not sure if it's a good way to think about it but want to throw in a financial goal.

Using This As a Self-Journal

Complete and utter discipline towards business goals, which is already coming at the expense of a very active social life. I'm not allowing myself any scrolling on social media, any non-beneficial time-wasting tasks, or anything. I'm not allowing myself to procrastinate, nothing. I haven't been on my phone for more than 10 minutes a day in the last 2 weeks.

I've realized that I'm at a point where whenever I'm not being hyperproductive and making things happen I don't feel good about myself, this means at all minutes of the day. I get clarity and happiness from actually performing the work itself, which is something that I'm loving, but if I was to fall off track from disciplined habits and into a slump it wouldn't feel pretty.

I've been doing this the past 2 weeks with a combination of spotting opportunity, working with or without motivation, the AI excitement, and optimizing every area of my life to be as productive as possible and feel energetic throughout the entire day from sunlight to the times i eat, etc.

I've gained an understanding of the dopamine system so that I can stay motivated and not get crashes.

I feel good because of all those things, but the main reason i do them is because of my one goal of some real business success in the next year.

Along with business success, I want to understand machine learning deeply by the end of the year, and since I spend a lot of time on the internet I've been spotting opportunities that will require some kind of understanding of it.

Some of my motivations-

I want to do it myself so I can help my mom transform her business and eventually just give her more $ than she will ever need for a lifetime. One of my biggest fears is not being able to deliver those amazing life experiences while she's still younger

My ego needing to become relatively successful before the people I went to highschool with get out of college

To prove people wrong that have added fuel to my fire

The fear of ending up anything remotely like some of the people in my family who are lazy losers that procrastinate and do nothing all day

I need to become successful and help my brother do the same so that he doesn't go down a slowlane path that he is currently being guided down

Complete and total independence

The other day someone was telling me that I'm still going to be in my hometown in 5 years - the thought of being in the same place seeing the same people every day for years and not being able to go outside of the box makes me want to move 10 times faster. No sir, I will not be here in 5 years

I need to spark confidence in some people I know to dream bigger and the only way they will listen to me is if I have success myself. I believe my own confidence and obsession with others' success of people who are closer to me can help them be better themselves

Goals:

$30k/month revenue
live very below means
keep finding ways to provide way more value to markets to explode business drastically
deep understanding of AI programming, to make it possible to understand who to hire and how to get AI projects off the ground myself

1. To finish and finally get out out of debt by paying back ALL of my old debts. (Almost there!)
2. To officially find a new place to live outside of DFW and move away from my childhood home. (Scary, but yet exciting)
3. To put a more emphasis on taking more action and no longer wasting anymore time by removing old/bad habits and implementing new ones.
4. To hopefully find a girlfriend and make more friends.

Will edit this later if I find more additional idea's.

I've thought about this for a bit and I reckon the two big things for me for this year are:
1) Lose 15kg or more in weight, because I'm just too heavy at the moment and I need to decrease the risk to my health.
2) I am going to go freelance in the next week or so, I am just doing some essential preparation that I can't see how to start without. So my goal is to earn over $1200 a month before the end of the year.
I'm guessing that some people will think that goal 2 is unambitious but the reason that I chose it is because I think it will prove to me that I can get some results from freelancing. The truth is that I currently don't know exactly how I am going to achieve this, for the simple reason that I just don't know what obstacles I will face on the way. That uncertainty is bugging me at the moment, but I don't think that there is anything I can do about it.

It’s been four years since I read MF.

In 4 years, I didn’t do anything concrete, I thought about it, worked on different ideas, not one was born...(I regret it)

So I decided to resume my studies ( in France ), which allowed me to meet people as passionate as me and to have an income entrance.

My goal for 2023 is to launch my mobile app and get first feedback.

1-put my website online and Trade to find suppliers of products .
2-Get customers to create them from Website (Prospecting)
3-Leave my current Job
4- Continue to polish my programming skills.

I will apply the 3As of TGRR1E. (ACT-ADJUST-ACCESS)

Here we go. I have 3 main goals for 2023, and a few minor ones. Some of them, mostly the minor ones, are inspired from reading Die With Zero a few days ago, which was recommended here.

Main goals:
- expand my current real estate business or start a totally different one. First option would mean acquiring a bigger multi-unit building. As for the second option, I have two ideas in mind that need prototyping to get to (in)validation as fast and as cheaply as possible. I surely need much less than a year do to so.
- buy a house or lay down the first brick of my own construction. May start a family "soon"...
- take a major, month-long trip (looking at western wilderness of the USA, Japan or Namibia).

Minor goals:
- get up to dedicating 50 to 100k to options trading.
- participate in 3 BJJ tournaments and get a purple belt.
- start underwater photography.
- develop and be more consistent with my landscape and wildlife photography.

I don't have anything specific to ensure most of this happens, except the daily discipline of slowly but surely grinding toward these goals.

Good luck everyone !

Before Christmas, I talked to my friend and she told me that she has to create 50 goals for next year. I was surprised with the amount. It´s literally one goal for every week of the year. I started to discuss it with her (I couldn´t wrap my head about the amount) and she arugemented with the logic that says the more goals you have, the more goals you will achieve. And there´s something about that. If you set up 50 goals, you will definitely achieve more than if you set up 5 goals.

I´ve spent last few weeks in beautiful enviroment away from European winter and I made a list of my goals for next year. In upcomig days I will work through the list and elaborate on each goal more.

  • Restrict social media
  • Find a relationship / restrict casual dating (it´s the biggest drain of energy ever)
  • Run ultramarathon
  • Be able to do 30 pull-ups without pause
  • Run 3200 meters in 12 minutes
  • Get into rhetoric club
  • Get my feet in entrepreneurship
  • Build better relationship with my family
  • Finish settling up my apartment
  • Work on my communication skills
  • Choose and learn some skill related to computers
  • Learn to be more grateful
  • Put more structure into my life outside of work
  • Finish Self-Authoring guide from JBP

I've written my goals in notion, but i'll write some here.

Quit Bad Habits, wont mention.
Hit 100k On Instagram (If i do start this year, of course.)
Get to 1k (Tho i've written10k in notion, just so that im forced to try harder) through trading crypto
Find my first bug and get paid for it
Not a goal for this year but a lifetime goal but, reach my dream body
Create a team of like-minded young entrepreneurs who want to be succesful (an active & powerful team)
Become mentally stronger

I got this.

On a serious note… 2023 will be an interesting year. The list of things to do for me is way longer than years past.

I’m still in planning phase, will add to this when done. Subscribed.

Took me a couple days but I finally have the first iteration of my Q1 goals. I'm giving the 12 Week Year a try so I am only planning out the next 12 weeks. Here are my goals

All Companies

  • Need to get a trusted Real Estate Attorney on my team to look over our property management company leases, mid term leases and investment property leases.
  • Also get a CPA firm on the team to optimize both personal and business tax situation

Body/Health

  • Get muscle mass >= 43%
  • Reduce body fat to <= 19%

Management Company

  • Increase recurring residential management income to > 10K per month (This is a yearly goal, I know breaking the 12 week rule on this one)
  • Decrease HOA management income to less than 4K per month

Career

  • Get familiar with all the tech that affects us developers at my W2 job
  • Once I have a list of all the tech then I will choose 3 and go deep on those.

I'll come back in the next quarter(12 weeks with the next steps)

Right about now, about 3 weeks into the New Year, a big majority (80-90%) of people who set New Year's Resolutions have already failed them.

Why have you failed them?

Motivation?

Or is it your systems?

New year's resolutions are the ultimate form of procrastination and self delusion.

I don't understand how some people can write the same resolutions year after year for a decade, and not get anything done. The people that do this are almost manifesting sub-clinical bipolar symptoms (manic and depressive episodes).
  • January: New Year New Me! Time to get really excited for no reason and write a stupid list about stupid things!
  • December: Depression and disappointment, realizing that nothing changed but you are 1 year closer to your grave.

I do not use "resolutions".
I use a F*cking war map. Every year is split into 4 quarters, and every quarter has a mission.

I want to implement a system where I review my actions on a regular basis (day, week, month, quarter). If I am failing and need to adjust, I want to know that immediately, not at the end of the year. Time is too precious.

Will definitely give goal sumo a solid try and do more research on how to improve my planning, execution, and self-reflection abilities.

For 2023 I have decided to stop my horrible habit of action faking.

So far this year I have:
-got one of my business's products into a local business and sold out the first weekend with a reorder for next weekend

-struck a deal with an old friend to make a website for him to boost my web design portfolio

-signed up to get my fingerprint clearance to get gigs/jobs that require it

-signed up for a free business tax workshop next month

-worked on original music

-worked on original artwork and jewelry design

-sold an original piece of art

-worked on original designs for produce on demand clothing

-become more active in the Fastlane Forum

-applied for some side hustle gigs/jobs

Not sure if this is the right thread for it, but wanted to say I'm impressed with MJ's GoalSumo.com.

I've been using it for a few days now and (having used a lot of systems over the years) I love the simplicity of the dashboard, the way it links to longer term goals, keeps those in view too and ESPECIALLY how it is forcing me - FORCING ME - through the gamification to make sure I get the most important goal of the day DONE

I've signed up for the paid version & going to port my other goals and tasks over there (currently in Trello).

Wow!! I can't tell you how happy I am to hear this.

Our vision is to be simple, but powerful, and to improve based on that philosophy. We understand there are far more robust systems out there, but I always found them complicated and distracting. In some cases, I felt I needed a PhD in project management to use them.

Again, much appreciate that you took the time to let us know. Since we're early in this process, hearing this during our beta-stage means a lot.

You're welcome MJ, I've had so much value from your work over the last 11 years so its a pleasure to be able to be able to help in a little way (whilst I am the one being helped more!).

I've got a solid task management system that I made using Trello which I've used to run my businesses and personal life for the last several years, which I'll keep using as a second brain of sorts. And yeah, it took me a quite a while to get that working in a way that actually works for me vs PHD in project management stuff  so I hear you. I wouldn't even want to attempt to teach it to someone else :wideyed:

The power of GoalSumo for me is that each day I can import 3-5 of the key tasks from my Trello boards into it, and it keeps the most important in front of my face and highly gamified until I get it done. Simple, powerful, effective.

I have a poor habit of NOT doing the most important thing first (despite knowing damn well that I should) and ticking off 1-2 easier things to feel good about it, I think your software is going to help me fix that.

I feel like as long as I take care of my mental and physical health I can accomplish anything. I intermittent fast, exercise and meditate. I also take supplements, which work better than anything the FDA approves of. Also staying away from stupid addictions and hedonistic behavior.

No alcohol in 2023

I’ve been alcohol free for 2 months now and I notice a huge difference. I’m walking through the airport right now in Mexico and seeing people drink alcohol and eating Panda Express is like walking among the matrix. LOL

This year I’m going to start a new business. I’m focused and disciplined enough to blow through this. I have a plan where I think I can get it to $5k a month starting out. I’m getting these glimpses of where there are big opportunities in this economy. It makes me sad seeing others struggle who wanna make it. We truly are prisoners of our own perceptions.

As Plato said. Our body is the “weight” on our soul. We need truth and beauty to restore vision to our blind eyes.
