Lol Disney. Every single movie they release is fighting for a top 10 record...

...top 10 box office bomb record that is. It's hilarious to watch. Their latest cartoon came out and they can't even get families to watch it. And yet some terrible video game movie about murderous animatronic robots comes out that is rated R and stomps all over the box office. It's absolutely awesome.

I saw something that said their last 13 movies have lost money

It's their last eight and it's around $900,000,000 they've lost. However their company profits grew by 4% per quarter.

So that tells me that Disney movies are just very expensive ads for their toys and other crap they sell.

I think he makes enough elsewhere to just run this with a "freedom of speech" first mindset.

It is the same concept as what others have done but for total different reasons...



Why would Jeff Bezos run a newspaper at a loss - a chance to control what gets said.

Why would Elon run Twitter at a loss - a chance to allow things that should be said to get said.

These guys don't need the money, it is a bigger goal first.

Peter Zeihan has an interesting take on electric cars, he reckons mining capacity can't support the heavy metals required for electric cars to be produced at the scale governments wants them to be produced at for at least a decade, mining capacity is a tricky thing to scale up.

I think all that will be achieved is pricing poor people and those less well off out of car ownership.

In the long term, electric vehicles will be great for urban areas, because they will clean up the air nicely. But it's a transition that the market should make, not the government.

I'll bite ...

Elon created companies that are transforming how we view and use the world. Electric cars today and the technology of it today may or may not be aligned with his statement, but if we expand it time wise, it may well be true.

What do I mean by that?

Nuclear power is likely the closest thing we know today to cheap and "clean" energy. There are plants being built but rarely advertised (in Canada of all places!). With abundant electricity and proper infrastructure to get it to people one day we should have too much! What do you do with that? Store it. Where? Why not in cars?

Self driving cars can free up parking lots. Tesla tech is at the forefront of self driving. That's probably amazing for convenience AND the environment.

Also, I don't use X but I have heard people complain that bot traffic is back full force since the acquisition. Those who use X, have you had a similar experience?

What I like about Elon is his irreverence to the status quo. They expect him to do X but he does Y. I actually enjoy the media reactions more than hearing about what Tesla and SpaceX are up to, although those have my respect of course. They can't put that man in a box.

Very good points. Although I would say Elon runs Twitter for the same reason as Bezos, he wants to control what is said and how he is perceived.

I do find it funny that Disney exercising their right to choose where to advertise, has been framed by him as 'blackmail'.
