In 2023, is there more opportunity in consulting or in e-commerce? Is either more scalable than the other, and is either more lucrative or competitive than the other?

It seems that with consulting, a lot of personal branding has to be done so that people start to look at you as an expert in your field. From that, consultants hope to write books and do courses. These are scalable models but it could take a long time to get there and I’m not sure how scalable the actual consulting model is.

With e-commerce, it can certainly be scalable but there may be a lot of market saturation.

Thoughts?

This question is too vague to be worth discussing.

People are crushing it in e-commerce right now.

People are crushing it in consulting.

Pick whichever one you feel like dedicating a decade to mastering.

Like @Kung Fu Steve said in the SMMA thread, work hard until you don’t suck and then nothing will be saturated.

Why not start a company that consults on e-commerce? Or an e-commerce company that sells consulting?

Cover both bases! Done.
