Does anyone of you create weekends / evenings events, like dinner, bar, etc to connect with like-minded people? I am talking about small group of 3 - 10 people, where people can also bring their partners or friends of friends.

As a business owner who hustle and meet people over coffee, I realised most of the relationships don't progress further so my question is do organising get-together periodically help build business bonds?

I prefer just chatting to people 1-2-1. But then I’m not a small groups person.

Andy, me too and most of my relationships are built that way, 1-1 coffee or 1-1 meal, mostly former and hence maybe why it doesn't progress beyond strong bonds.

Great topic.

The 1-1 coffee/meal is good but the benefit of organising a mini event such as drinks or food for 8-10 people is you become a connector which is a great way of helping those around you.

It raises your stock by it's nature and people can come out of their shell a bit easier when there are a few people around having a drink in a chilled setting rather than face to face 1-1 where there's a little more pressure to keep a conversation going.

So in terms of increasing that bond, it can do in more ways than one.

I feel as though connection with others is sorely lacking in the social media crazed society we live in and many people aren't sure how to connect with like minded people - especially entrepreneurs who are 30+ age bracket.

So anything that helps people get away from the screen and mixing with people in the real world is good and can bring all kinds of benefits.

I've been thinking about how to do something similar lately.

I often do free presentations to other people’s groups. Mostly over Zoom. It’s a win-win-win.

Why not give a local workshop for free for local business owners, and have lunch afterwards?

Hi Andy,

Like you, I do presentations once a month on average. It's a good suggestions to continue with meals and drinks after.

Would you say that presentations have a bottleneck as it usually stays "business friend" as connecting on weekends and evenings with their close friends and loved ones will further strengthen the bond, as connecting with their friends and family is a way to see them as more than a "business friend"

I view giving presentations as a way of helping people and getting known as an expert. I don’t try and make friends out of it, but every now and then I’ll end up staying in touch with someone.

I think we meet people’s spouses and friends after we become friends, not as a way to become friends? I’ve friends I’ve never met in the evening/weekend and who’s spouses I’ve never met.
