Northshore area, New Orleans
Any plans to ever return there or split your time 50/50? Why is Texas better than New Orleans?
No plans short term. New Orleans beats everyone in food, cuisine melting pot. Texas has almost everything. It just may not be the “best” in everything, but maybe one of the best all around states.
4 regions give you multiple areas for different activities all within the same state. If you were centrally located then the travel time isn’t extreme. The only thing it is missing for me is high mountains and skiing, but Denver and Salt Lake City are short plane rides that put you within an hour or twos drive the all of that for a relatively cheap ticket price.

Yes and no. I live in Connecticut and by itself it's trash. The good thing is I'm close to NYC, Boston, lots of awesome mountains and beaches. Tons to do within driving distance.

Every year that goes by I dislike the winters more and more though. Two months of cold is fine... I love the snow, but it seems like the cold just drags on way too long.

I lived in South Korea for two years and moved back to the US last fall. I absolutely loved it there and could see myself moving back someday.

The biggest thing keeping me from leaving Connecticut permanently is all my family lives here. I like change and moving to new places is exciting to me, so I could see myself moving around every few years going forward.

This is my list of places I'd like to live
  • Colorado Springs
  • Sedona
  • Santa Fe
  • White Mountains (NH)
  • Taichung, Taiwan
  • Quepos, Costa Rica

Texas is tempting but everything is so far apart and it's too flat for me.

Also the Texan superiority complex is for real. I went to college for a year there and I met way too many people like this and it drove me nuts. Most of them never left the state too .

From what I've heard it's different in the cities though, which I haven't spent much time in.

Legazpi, Philippines
So, in the case of mine, it is neither.

The following is the reason why I like this place (Bicol Region):
  • Access to cheap and affordable transit
  • Location nearby a tourist attraction and prices were affordable (e.g. Legazpi nearby Lignon hill)
  • Rent Prices here were cheap (average of ₱12,000 per month I think($240))
  • Neighbors were friendly specifically living rural towns (Daraga, Camalig, Guinobatan etc.)
  • Internet Broadband is also affordable here (fiber connection @1500 pesos ($25 per month))
  • The food here is tasty like yours (Sili Ice Cream and Pinangat)
Here are the following reasons why I don’t like this place:
  • Commonplace for heavy rains and Typhoons
  • Food prices here were so expensive that we order wholesale
  • The electricity here is so unstable that anytime in a day a blackout occurs. (A blackout can last up to 3 months unless solar energy is used to power homes)
  • The current pandemic enforced us to not just wear masks but wear face shields.
  • The market size here is so small because the region is one of the poorest in the Philippines
My brain says that I like this place but my gut said NO. I hope that I could made the decision to either leave this place or stay here.

I don't know.

I believe in blooming where ever you are planted. I never intended to stay here in rural Alaska after my mom died -- but, I'm still here and thriving. Success is not dependent on location since every place has its unique opportunities.

Well that might be true for certain countries but definitely not for all. There are places where success is heavily dependent on whether you were lucky to be born on the "right" side of the border.

North Korea vs South Korea, Cuba vs Florida or the Bahamas, Belarus vs Lithuania or Poland, Haiti vs the Dominican Republic, Somalia vs Kenya or Ethiopia, just to give a few examples.

There are places where life, for the most part, terribly sucks and no amount of positive thinking will change that.

You're right about that. I was born in the USA during a time when women weren't allowed to have a credit file or qualify for a housing loan. Most types of work were close to women. It's was that way when I became of age. In 1974, the Fair Credit Act was put into force, which changed all of the financial limitations -- thank you, Martin Luther King. He got civil rights for all women and for minorities. Before we women could vote, but almost all doors were closed to us. Also, birth control pills became common during those years giving me control over my body. I am lucky to be living during this period of time. I've been able to go further and do more than I ever thought possible. I grew up in a depressed, rural area. I moved to downtown Los Angeles when I was 19. I went to the big city to go to college. I have been able to write my own story during my adult life.
