So this is my progress thread for a site I just started. I briefly write down what I do for each site I create and thought I would put this one on here.
I get kind of confused with what I did between day 1 and 2.
I had taught myself how to create websites with drupal because at the time wordpress was so basic, you couldnt customize anything. Recently I had a look at wordpress 3 and I was impressed. So Ive started playing around with it again and that is what I am using for this site.
Day 1:
I looked at different keywords and found one that has low competition and 74k searches a month. The keyword with 27k has an extra word added to the 74k keyword. I also checked in Market Samurai and everything seems good.
I was surprised to find out the .com was available. I purchased it and created a site using wordpress and created a theme, customized pretty much everything, its not a blog anymore. I needed to create 3 buttons but didnt have time. I also did a little bit of blog commenting for this site. Created a video of how to use my site and quickly uploaded it to youtube then went to bed.
Day 2: I had a few sign ups and users over night. The youtube video had sent people over. Since I wanted a nice looking button I started looking for a button generator. I couldnt find a good one. So I started to look how to create one in photoshop but the tutorials were not clear so I went back to looking for a generator. In the end I skimmed the tutorials and tried to figure it out and taught myself how to do it.
Then I created a new video of how to use my site and what it did and uploaded it to youtube. I also set up a small ad campaign on facebook and google. I found out that facebook gave me a lot more active users once they signed up to my site. With google people would sign up and thats it. I had something like 50 sign ups during this day but not many active users. I figured that once someone signed up they didnt know what to do. So I redirected the login to a instruction page that explained what to do (originally it went to the homepage). This improved the singup/active users. I had also used google because I wanted to see how many impressions I had for each keyword. The keyword Im going for has 75,000 searches a month. My ad had around 2k impressions so thats about right.
I also created a squidoo lens and a hub page.
day 3: I decided to take it easy during this day so I just read about a few different things, created a article and spun it into 16. I had a couple of orders to complete so I did that. I noticed my hubpage hadnt been accepted (I made it in 5 minutes) I fixed it and submitted it again. I think by this time I had about 150+ users, Im not sure. I was getting a lot of sign ups every hour.
day 4: During these past 3 days Ive been making about 12-15 dollars a day. You can use this site in loads of different markets. So I started looking for gaps in other markets to create a replica of my current site. I created this feed that would give me a list of blogs that google was about to crawl and I set one of the settings really high and my computer crashed and wouldnt start again. Ive needed to restore my computer for awhile but I never got around to it because it takes so long. I had a feeling this was going to happen a few days ago and I had backed everything up on my external hard drive. During this day I just created a feed that killed my computer, then restored my computer and installed my programs back on.
At some point I set up a twitter account and used Twitter Search to find people that have tweeted about my topic. You can search 'keyword -http://' it will remove any websites, meaning I will be the first to leave a link. I created a tiny url for my website to leave a response. I only left a response to one person and then left. Since then Ive forgot my username and password :smug2:
