I've been having this dilemma recently. I'm working on content creation for my blog. I already have few articles (gonna need about 20 to start with though), bought hosting with great domain name. I have the whole vision and if only I had income stream to support myself, I would spend every hour on building this little empire of mine, a foundation for marketing and selling digital products in future, creating multiple passive income streams, actually growing with the blog, getting knowledge, inspiring others and so much more.
But my parents support me financially and I hate it. I live with them and exactly in a month, as semester on my Uni begins, I'm gonna take a gap year. This is just in case of worst scenario possible, if I turned out with serious mental illness in a year or something. Actually I'm dropping out of Uni and this is my final decision, I'm not planning on continuing it anytime.
My parent already know that, but they seem to be delusioning themselves that I won't even take that gap year once I have my exams passed (which I'm still going to do in this month). I give them no reasons for self-delusion what so ever, yet I know them pretty well and I'm already able to predict that it's going to be quite a shock for them when I'll actually take that gap year. Thereby I fear and worry that they'll do something stupid, like quit to refund my groceries, gym, basic needs and cut out internet connection. I even fear that I will somehow end up on the street or will have to work 12h in call center just to survive.
Right now it's all comfy, but I have no idea how it's going to be after September passes.
Like I've mentioned I have exams to pass and it will take vast amount of hours to get prepared (I've just started). I still find time to work on my blog, but it takes much effort and time to create any content that I'm satisfied with.
So I was thinking - maybe I could do just 30% of job that I'm capable of when it comes to building up that blog and try out freelance writing?
Pros:
-it would really help me with practicing my writing skills, I would definitely become more efficient, of course the pressure that I absolutely have to deliver specific content would make me write more
-I think it would get rid of my anxiety that's been blocking me in some way - it's highly related to exposing your writing out there and actually making first dollars on the internet
-I would earn and save up some money
Cons:
-it would take a lot of time just to get any writing jobs, the field is highly competitive and requires that you check out multiple sites frequently and apply for new jobs as soon as possible (it can be over after a job offer has been there 20 minutes)
-the thought of trading my time for money makes me want to throw up, it's absolutely illogical. Unless it's a site where you put up just about any articles and earn passive income, but as far as I know it's pocket change (1$/mo for 1 article is good after some time has passed). And you have to come up with your own ideas from scratch (just like with my blog) and it wouldn't motivate me to write so much
The main concern is that it just would take much time and attention. In my case, it's a simple choice between working more efficiently and simply more on content creation for my blog and starting it sooner (and creating something absolutely unique and working with things that inspire me) and between becoming one of the several million freelancers out there and fighting for every dollar.
Maybe I should just put all my heart to this blog creation and if things start to look nasty, then I'll worry about earning immediate money online. I can always work from library.
