Different types of entrepreneurs?

Hello Forum,

in the past few months I had many conversations with different entrepreneurs.

For example one of them owns a very successful IT Business.

Many times, when I talk about advertising or acquiring new customers with direct response, there is silence.

When I read Dan Kennedy he says that if a business owner can not tell how much he pays for a new customer and what the numbers are, he doesn't own a business, he has a hobby.

Why is it that so many entrepreneurs respond to questions about advertising just with: "I don't know, referral and personal network."

Is it that they want me to discover everything on my own or are these types of entrepreneurs more like an "expert" or "specialist"?

Hi There,

Most people who say that and own a business, operate on a sole proprietorship, meaning they are their own boss but essently masquerade as a job, like a plumber working for himself or a contractor.

Of course Apple and Facebook grew also because of "referral and (personal) network" .

If you read TMF you know the difference.

Why is this posted in the inside? You’ll get more responses on the outside and this isn’t exactly top secret.

And to mimic @Greg R ...

Why? Why is this important? Why do you care?

How does your business advertise? How do you obtain customers? What works for your business is not the same as what works for any other business.

Yep, unless you are selling them advertising or lead generation, you really shouldn't care.

But to answer the question...

Ignorance and status quo. Why advertise when what they do now "works" for them?

We don't know what we don't know right?

When people tell me that they sell to their network for example I think about how to network effectively and where is the moral limit when selling to people you know?

For me it is more effectively to communicate with people if I am genuinely interested in this person rather than trying to "use" this persons influence.
