Hello,
I heard about the deep work method and I would like to try it for my projects to see if it suits me better.
The problem is that I love to listen to music while working, so I would like to know which music is better (ambient, without words, binaural sounds...?)
And I wonder what do you recommend as work rhythms
some recommend 90min, followed by a short break, others to do the pomodoro, others 60min etc. Or is it best to try everything? haha
Thanks for your help, looking forward to reading from you.
Good day to you.

I've never actually heard of deep work before this but I suppose I actually do my work that way. These days when I need to get work done I set a timer for an hour or so and just get to it. No music or anything. I find music and sounds actually distract me from the task. It's boring for the first ten minutes as I try to get focused but after that hump, I get a lot done while the timer goes. Sometimes I get really into what I'm doing and work longer.

I think I'll also try without music, it may be radical but I think it's the best thing to do.
You'd be surprised how distracting it is. I couldn't even do work without music in college and didn't notice how much of a hindrance it was until I worked without it for a while. Huge difference for me. I'd say an increase in productivity by 100% at least. I find myself getting into whatever music I'm listening to which takes away from work. That's just me though so may not be the same for everyone else. Give it a try and see what happens for sure.

Thank you very much, you convinced me.
Not to mention the loss of time each time to change the music and / or find the one you want.
For work rhythms I will try several but I think I will do 60min followed by a break.

It's hard for the first five minutes. Like jumping in a cold pool, you don't want to do it at all but eventually, your brain adapts and you get the work done.

Good day to you.
For the music Andrew Huberman as podcast on it : to conclude 40hz binaural beats are best for focus. Without rain sounds or anything in background

Are you guys referring to normal music with vocals or "focus" / binaural music?

I've found the latter type to be useful, but I have equally enjoyed rich productivity without any type of music.

I find brain.fm helps me focus when I need it. You can set the frequency and even the genre (lofi, atmospheric, nature) depending on what kind of work you're doing.
It's mostly to block out other sounds for me.

Also lately I'm doing a dopamine detox.
I'm following a protocol I found on Imar Gadzhi YouTube channel (one of the latest videos)
I'm getting much more done and I'm able to get into deep work much easier.
It is basically no stimulation :
  • No youtube
  • No porn / fapping
  • 1h screen time on your phone (this one is important)
  • at least 10 mins of meditation a day
  • I've added no anime or other tv shows and no music especially in the gym (binaural beats are still valid)
So it's basically no stimulation at all to reset your brain. It's working wonders.

You do this for 7 days, then go into another, less script protocol that the guy calls Monkmode.

I'm on day 3 and work is getting better, either on my job or when I'm going after personal projects.
You also get much more time available as you reduce your phone time.
