As this is primarily for my own benefit, I’ll keep this short and sweet. This is going to be a progress thread. For a month, I will be paper trading the NASDAQ between the hours of 10AM-12PM EST (luckily, I was able to take a later shift at work.)
I will be using basic strategies that are freely available online. As long as human beings stay greedy, hopeful, and fearful, these strategies are timeless and will always be effective in the market if combined with proper execution and money management.
To start, I will be paper trading an account of $10,000. This figure will be used for risk:reward determination, actual profit/loss, and because it is the amount of real money I will fund the account with if all goes as planned.
If I survive long enough to incorporate a real funded account, I will start off by trading no more than 100 shares at a time, with an immediate 5-10 cent stop loss applied. From there, different step goals and eventually trading on margin. I’m very aware of the psychological differences between paper trading and using real money.
Until I have an account of $25,000 or above, I am limited to making three real intra-day trades/week (regulations). That means, I ultimately have to build $10,000 into $25,000 on three trades/week.
I will be as receptive as possible on the thread. Feel free to post any questions or criticism (keep it constructive).
