Obviously, good taste and being rich are not synonymous.

It seems for someone worth billions, common sense of 'protection' for his family was lost by building a fish bowl for them to live in.

Not necessarily.

The building has multiple safe rooms.

Having worked w/some celebs who had 24/7 security and safe rooms, let's just say that the Secret Service does a better job, but not by a lot.

I dont´t think so. Wouldn't "fit".

But why does this cost 1 billion? Seems a little expensive for me even for a small skyscraper like that. Is it the interieur?

For a building 60 stories tall and a block square?

Seems about right to me (but hey, we're only doing these relatively teeny B&Bs, so I'm kinda out of my depth here!).

60 stories tall, but 27 actual stories, since some of the stories are so tall.

Compared to the skyscrapers I've owned, this one is a bargain!:coffee:

Well, according to Wikipedia, the Taipei 101 did cost 1,6 billion Euro, with 508m (1667 ft) being considerably bigger than this thingy. The Sears Tower did cost 175 mio $ in 1974, the 290m Eureka tower in Melbourne (built 2006) cost 290 million $. That´s why I think it´s quite expensive.

Good points, Always Curious.

As I mentioned, costing out bldgs above 3 stories is out of my league.

Seems like no one has considered that this bldg may only cost, oh, $400M.

But by calling it a "$1 Billion House", this guy gets HUGE HUGE media coverage.

People like to talk about it (look at us). :chatter::jiggy::chatter:

Seems like a good PR move to me.

I haven't seen anyone from the press ask to look at the bills/receipts/projected costs.

Why should they? It's a good story, with a catchy headline. :)

I read about this somewhere else... FWIR, there was a floor for the staff. Also, one floor had a big swimming pool. And the purpose was to provide a sanctuary for the family. It is a golden cage... but a cage nonetheless.
