I have read the book "The Alter Ego Effect" and highly recommend it.

The author is a peak performance coach and has used the concept of alter egos to increase the performance of his clients... many of them are famous athletes, actors and business people.

The performance enhancing ability of alter egos is apparently proven by science.

As an entrepreneur what alter ego would you choose? (It's beneficial if your alter ego can be "studied" by reading books and watching interviews or by watching movies if it's a fictional character so that you get a decent amount of data for how the alter ego acts in different scenarios)

For me personally Elon Musk is the first who comes to mind. I also like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Kobe Bryant a lot for their sheer determination and insane work ethic.

Also, the following characters come to mind:

- John D Rockefeller

- Henry Ford

- Ayn Rand's characters

BTW your alter ego doesn't have to be just one person, you can mix characters and it doesn't have to be a real or fictional character either.

I like to channel Socrates, so to speak, because it reminds me to ask good questions. I just have to remember to turn him off before someone makes me drink hemlock.

I read the book when it first came out. Loved it. Never followed through.

It just felt too fake to me. But maybe if I pick one and don't take it too seriously it'll grow on me.

Thanks for the Book rec.!

I'm curious about how to "use" it practically?

Do you ask "What would Elon do?"
Or do you put yourself in the "role" of Elon and act like you are him?

I made a list of "mentors" a few weeks ago and put them on my wall. I have more then 10, I guess. Some are fictional from a Book (Momo, for example; Or the "the alchimist"). There is Steven Covey, Eckhart Tolle, my partens, my grandfather, also Buddha and some more on the list. Most of them died allready.

I like the idea of watching and reading about them a lot in order to take on their character traits.

You put yourself in the role of your choosen alter ego. It's interesting to see how much more differently you start to think. The alter ego can be used for specific situations you want to improve like sales calls or you can also use it for broader roles you have like the role of an entrepreneur. Just try what fits you best.

It's a great and fun tool to start thinking and acting differently.

Seen this post and decided to get the book. Loving it so far, thanks for the recommendation. Will let you know my entrepreneur alter ego once I'm finished.

Mine is Richard Winters from the series Band of Brothers. Nothing to do with business, but he was fearless.

His ruthlessness, bro.

It's on, dude. I'm channeling Vladimir Lenin.

"Give me your four year olds and I'll give you socialism!"

"Shoot those Romanov kids in the basement, they're bourgeois!"

::Evil maniacal cackle.::
