Countdown to B&P 2013 in Scottsdale

As of today, there are 134 days for the B&P

A common issue is the lack of money to attend the event.

Based on my previous experience, and after asking a few others, I came to the conclusion you should need around $1K-$1.2K to make it there for that weekend.

You need to buy the airplane ticket by January 15th or so, in order to get good rates. Counting today, you have around 96 days for it. I am estimating you need $500 for this.

price flying non-stop from:

* Washington DC ~ $480
* JFK ~ $400
* LAX ~ $150
* Chicago ~ $350
* Miami ~ $300
* Toronto ~ $650 (1-stop)
* London ~ $900 (1-stop)
* Minneapolis ~ $400 -- or $300 1-stop

Add to that some $300 for hotel.

Add $200 for travel expenses.

Add to that around $200 for the B&P fee.

total around $1,200

$1,200 / 90 days <= $15 per day

So, if you start today saving/making an extra $15 per day, you will have paid for your whole trip by mid January.

Please add here ideas on how to make that much money starting tomorrow so you can make it to the meetup (or at least to remove the "if I have money" aspect of the trip.

Some people may find this hard to believe, but I managed the 2012 B&P for sub-$650 total (and it could have been done cheaper!) $195 for admission, $250.80 for roundtrip from Kansas City airport, split the hotel with Sasha on the forum (who I had never met before!) for $66.66. I will admit I got the hookup from my friend who works at the hotel right next to Chapparal...imagine the luck ;) Took the Supershuttle for $20 roundtrip from airport to hotel and back. The rest for booze and food. It could have been done cheaper, probably close to $500 if I had drank less and couchsurfed. For the amount of value received for the experience, money should not be an issue, period.

I have gone to other paid workshops and seminars that the admission alone cost $500+ and received less value than at B&P. If you make this event a true priority in your life, money should not be an issue, period. :p

Hi Sasha, or other- I am interested in a hotel split if anyone else is interested in it. I plan to attend either way--- but it would be nice to split the bill with someone. If anyone is interested please let me know.

I'm thinking I'll be able to do it for less. Driving from Reno, NV would cost about $200 round-trip assuming gas prices rise just a little by February(Fingers crossed on that one). Anyone looking to split a hotel can PM me!( Or if you live near by I'd love to rent a room for the weekend!) I'm sane and hygienic, I swear! Really hoping I can make this work with my schedule and financially!

I've read probably all of the B&P posts here and this event seems to always be filled with fun and laughter and with all the wisdom you'll be getting from everyone along with the opportunity to meet face to face with reputable individuals from this forum should make it even more amazing.

An environment filled with fastlaner's ohhh the possibilities of what could happen. I'm not financially prepared as yet for these events but I am definitely working my a$$ off to make it. I've already started to work on the numbers for total minimal cost for me to get there because based on my location (Jamaica) cost will be significantly higher than people already in the states.

I have recently found my BP notes from around 2007-8 (the first one)

Man, was I motivated and on fire, not to mention there was some serious, REAL business stuff in the notes.

There are plenty of ways to make the money for the trip - opportunities are everywhere, make the daily commitment to the effort.

This seems like an obvious thing to say but:

- If you don't plan to extract more value than the cost of going, don't go.

If I hosted an event that cost $10 and told everyone that the floor was blanketed in $20 bills free to anyone willing to bend over to pick it up, would the $10 fee really be a logical barrier preventing you from attending? No. Your willingness to bend at the knees would be the only thing stopping you.

Examples:

Many big retailers have started hiring for the season. Work there each Saturday and Sunday for the next three months. You should make enough.
Or you could be a waiter each Saturday from now on and save the tips for this purpose.
Or was 5 cars per weekend and save the money.
Or you could apply to work on the bagging area of an airline and fly for free to the event.
Or apply to a hotel chain and get employee discount for the hotel when you go to PHX.

I am sure you can come up with more and better ideas....

Kak... there's no organizer yet. The date the collective "they" are talking about is the weekend of 2/22 through 2/24... but until someone steps up and locks things down with the hotel, etc... it's still not solid.

I will organize it in Houston, Dallas, Austin, Gaveston or New Orleans if the location is still up for discussion. Dallas is a hub and a very large airport. I bet flights are fairly cheap in and out of DFW. Houston is a United hub.

NYC or Vegas would be awesome too, I just wouldn't be organizing that.

If I lived in Switzerland I would probably be wiring 30-50 per day unless you want to travel by boat and train :rofl:

1. I will go where ever this year - I have the weekend dialed in and am just waiting on solid plans
2. I think the reason it has traditionally been in Scottsdale is the high % of old school attenders that it was convenient to. However, there is also an impressive contingent in TX and there could be a great case for Dallas as an alternate location
3. Sasha was at one point looking at Vegas, but I think she found lukewarm reception to a change in venue for last year

(as a side note, I would actually prefer Dallas over Scottsdale, but would do Scottsdale if it meant the attendance would be better. It seems that some of the older guard is not stepping up to host this year... so maybe plans should be made around someone willing to stick a stake in the ground.)

Q: Would people be willing to attend if the location was Dallas vs. Scottsdale? Would we lose some people? Would we gain others? Would that change affect your decision on whether to attend or not?

Anywhere that gets the price of the flight down works for me.

Personally I've always wanted to go to Texas so I'd love the opportunity.

I just read a thread posted by a reservation agent that the "sweet spot" for the best flight prices are between 6 and 12 weeks before the departure date. Before that window the flights aren't on sale and after that window you are less likely to get a seat, apparently.

This individual also spoke highly of Bing Travel and Skyscanner for searching rates.

Just thought I'd share the tip.

PUNTA CANA EFFING ROCKS! I am not kidding, the best vacation of my life. For the love of God stay at the Mellia Paradisous.

Just don't go walking down the south side of the beach unless you want guys in shops pulling out their "best" weed available and trying to get you to buy some. One guy insisted I take an entire ounce and told me that if I liked it I could pay him later. I threw it in the ocean LOL.

Near San Diego
Since the subject of a change of venue came up, San Diego might be nice.
I hear some folks like to vacation here :)
I could help more as I have feet (and a cane) on the ground here.
There are a few other members nearby, I think.

I remember looking like a dumb Canadian tourist when I took a trip to Florida in the middle of winter. Figured "hell yeah! Hot summer temps in the middle of winter!"

I was told "You must be Canadian..." at least 7 times that first night as I stood around various places in a light t-shirt, shorts and sandals while all the locals had sweaters, pants and light jackets on. On the plus side I got to live the stereotype that Canadians aren't affected by the cold. I stood there laughing it off while the locals thought I was insane but secretly I was freezing.

Never assuming the temperature on any trip from now on...

I didn't know there was a such thing as 'too cold' for a Minnesotan...

Although I second your sentiment. I wanna go somewhere that's going to be nice and warm in February without having to go to Australia.

Our weather up here is so shifty...

100F/40C in the summer.
-40F/C in the winter.

Hell, we can have a warm, sunny fall day that drops below freezing at night. This kind of shift in daily temperature leaves one's nipples exhausted...
