Yahoo is looking to a British teenager to help guide its growth in mobile, with the acquisition of news app Summly, developed by young Londoner Nick D’Aloisio.

The deal makes a millionaire out of 17-year-old Mr D’Aloisio, who tought himself to code age 12 and will join Yahoo's London office while he studies for his A-levels. The California-based web company paid almost $30m for the app, according to a source close to the transaction.

Mr D'Aloisio launched Summly last year to automatically summarise news stories for the small screen and received acclaim from Apple, which featured it as one of its best iPhone apps of 2012.
