@MTF as someone who's been with the same person for over 20 years, build a family... and counting my lucky stars for meeting her as early as I did... I respectfully ask you to re-read the whole quote. Do not pick one sentence and re-interpret it. It's about balance. So while I don't disagree with what you said: "Thinking that you're responsible for your partner's happiness sounds like a recipe for a bad relationship.", I believe you are interpreting the quote very differently from how I am reading it. ;)

Okay just realized it says the reverse is equally true as it goes both ways, not just the second part of the quote.

Pardon me, I've been sick the last 10 days or so and my brain doesn't work 100% all the time lol.

Sorry to hear you are sick. I’ve been sick too! And so many of my close friends all got covid in the past two weeks. It’s just crazy.

Just paid sales taxes for last quarter on my side business. $60 tax on $720 in revenue.

I'm never sure if I'm doing it right TBH but the amount is too small to pay anyone else.

Who else is f***ing tired of dumb faces in YouTube thumbnails?

It's getting more and more ridiculous with even business channels replicating the same idiotic tactic.

I now assume that if you're putting a dumb face in your thumbnail you probably don't know what you're talking about (so you need dumb marketing to make people click on your videos).

Yeah. I tired of them a while ago and even unfollowed some folks just because of their thumbnail faces.

Sure, put your face on the thumbnail so I know it’s you, and maybe point at the title. No need for a grown adult to be pulling faces like that unless it’s to a baby.

Sorry to hear you are sick. I’ve been sick too! And so many of my close friends all got covid in the past two weeks. It’s just crazy.

Good luck on the sicknesses. Numbers are growing really fast right now. At the local school system, almost 200 staff were out with confirmed cases yesterday. It's over 10 times higher than any other time during the pandemic in that school district. I think my wife said they were down 12 people in her building. I can't remember what the kid count was, but a lot.

My wife's co-worker's husband is finally getting out of the hospital and into a rehab home. He has spent most of his time since August in intensive care. He still has a feeding tube and needs to re-learn how to eat, walk and talk because of his tracheostomy and ventilator. Since he's only in his 40s, I hope he bounces back OK.

My son's electrician and I think 3 of his employees got it at Thanksgiving. They all thought they had the flu, but they were wrong. The guy on his house is still having issues with climbing stairs and ladders. Trying again next week. My son can't get occupancy until complete and inspected.

how many of them had the shots?

You can still get it even after the V, which is why I ask.

I ended up getting Omicron in December. I'm double vaxinated, 2nd time getting corona and the symptoms were mild way easier than the first time getting it, but it attacked an old injury and I ended up spraining 5 body parts, now need surgery and PT, can't drive and really rearranged my first few months of the year.

For the last 10 days or so I've had various symptoms on and off.

It started with a random sore throat for a few days. I thought it was because of the dryness as the air in my apartment gets very dry during the winter (which is why I ordered a humidifier shortly after that). I also felt much better in more humid areas so I was sure it was only that.

Then came a tiny bit of congestion and coughing with a little bit of chest pain. Then this largely went away. But for the next two days I was completely destroyed by horrible diarrhea and stomach pain with some fever and a headache. I thought it was the stomach flu but today, after finally being able to sleep the entire night and my stomach pain fading away, I'm coughing again and some attacks are quite violent.

I did a self-administered antigen test two days ago but it came up negative. In the instructions they say that if it's 5-7 days after the first symptoms, it'll most likely show up negative so I still wouldn't rule out covid.

A relevant side note: I was in contact with a person who tested positive a few days after we met (she diagnosed herself with an antigen test as well).

Didn't want to get a PCR test as I don't want long sticks up my nose lol. Also, if positive, this would put me on the government quarantine list for 10 days. The stupid thing is that you're quarantined for 10 days since the test. Even if the test day is your last day of symptoms, you'll be quarantined for 10 days (and everyone living with you, even without any symptoms, too).

I might get a blood test in a couple of days to check if I have IgM antibodies. This would probably determine if it was really covid or something else. I'm just curious, not that it will help me with anything once my vaccination certification expires in March (the booster is not a good risk/reward ratio for my age group).

The guy in the hospital and his wife were very outspoken anti v so my wife is pretty sure they didn't have it. His wife was only out a few weeks with her own case.

I'm not sure of the people in the school system in general. I'd love to know. The school made them available to staff but I'm not sure how many got them. Antibodies react to the particular protein coat of the virus. So if antibodies haven't been exposed to a protein coat close enough to the one you've got, the antibodies won't necessarily recognize the new virus to attack it. Omi is close to Beta so hopefully that helps. It's supposed to be pretty effective. The other complicating factors are Christmas and the mask mandate was removed the week of Christmas. So all hit at the same time. But Omi is very infectious so that plays into it too. No way of knowing how many of the kids have been V'd since it became available.

My son thought the electrical guys probably had not, but you never know. You can't always tell by things people say.

One who wasn't V'd in my family is my cousin's wife. She ended up having a stroke after catching the virus mid last year and will never walk again. I think she was 60 when she got it.

So sorry to hear all this. I know there are a lot of hard core anti-vax ppl here on this forum. I am usually silent because I think it's a divisive issue. Same goes for anti-mask. I've supplied my entire office with KN95 unlimited access and we've been successful keeping it away. It's sad to hear the bad stories of the hard effects of COVID. Thanks for sharing.

One thing we can all agree to is that even vaccinate ppl get the virus, it's just the severity that's the question. Omicron is way more contagious, we are in an "endemic", most if not all of us will get it.

I was going for a walk yesterday morning and saw a cleared lot full of heavy duty equipment and truck trailers. It just fired me up and I couldn't figure out why.

I just kept thinking about it. And thinking about it. About 1km of walking later it finally hit me. Human started on a raw virgin planet with literally nothing. We had earth and stone, plant life, and animals.

We were able to take the raw environment around us and completely bend it to our will. Look at what we can do now!

Sure luxury and comforts are cool, but seeing the fires of industry is what really gets me excited. Humans did this. We did this! All through the power of thought and action.

I hope that my great great grandchildren are having these same thoughts as they blast around the stars and hop between planets.

I have had no shots and no symptoms and it's been two years, I have barely worn a mask anywhere, and I have not been careful at all. Same with most people down here.

The unv--ed ones I know who got sick mostly had very mild cases, except for a couple very rare instances.

My 81 year old grandmother and 80 year old grandfather both got the virus before the V's were available, and both fully recovered. It was scary for my grandfather - he had it worse, and we are lucky he made it. (I actually wore a mask most often when I was with them, to "protect" them, funny enough)

(Both of them got the shots later on - and both are critical of the mandates and say the government is acting outside of its authority)

Overall, I'm still not convinced that I need it. And I am not the only one. My friends are split - some of them got the first two shots - but the majority of 20-somethings I know have not had any boosters.

---
Oh, and I have had pretty much all of the other vaccines, the ones that have been around for many decades

Interesting note: Yesterday on Wednesday January 5th, the forum experienced its highest total of new user registrations in its 14+ year history. And that includes several dozen registrations that were deleted/denied (spammers). January is always a good month for the forum, however the normal user registrations above historical baseline is usually about 20%, not 200%. No, I have no explanation.

Guy I live with made 500k AUD profit this year in his 4th year of being a tradie, himself and a second van driver he put on 12 months ago. He's putting another 2 on this year and will be completely off the tools in a few months.

Bonus points for getting involved in a trade that specialises in tv services lol, people gots to have their MSM on a brand new 85 inch Samsung that's wall mounted.

Awesome incredible stuff!!

Really liked this quote and the book. Wisdom at its purest.

"This may sound counterintuitive, but I deeply believe that the path to happiness in a relationship is not just about finding someone who you think is going to make you happy. Rather, the reverse is equally true: the path to happiness is about finding someone who you want to make happy, someone whose happiness is worth devoting yourself to."

Clayton M. Christensen, James Allworth, and Karen Dillon, How Will You Measure Your Life?

If both partners share this mentality, it really makes for an awesome relationship. I feel like my relationship is like this, so I guess I can say it works. (going on 10 years).

Who else is f***ing tired of dumb faces in YouTube thumbnails?

I hate doing that, but the data shows it is effective, at least it was. As I like to say, I'd rather be rich, than right.

Some are way over the top. I think that's OK for Mr Beast but less so for more serious business related channels.

EDIT: I just went looking for a particular channel where the guy's thumbnails turned me off. They're now all toned down a bit.

Just my thoughts as a consumer...

I was reading a book about this topic a while ago by Elizabeth Gilbert. She describes how ideas are an energetic life-form looking for a human partner. If it thinks that you can do the job, it will pay you a visit. But, if it notices that you won't collaborate to the execution, it will find someone else. It will not wait for you forever.

Now I know that this is magical realism, but it always stuck with me in a way to remind me that if I don't take action, someone else will.
I love this ideology. I think I'll star and quote your message

My personal guess is that in some form or way you contribute to that individual's self-actualization. So rather than "needing" somebody through attachment or desire you can contribute in some way to that person's happiness. Also, I believe compatability to be dependent on what Jung called the "shadow". It has a lot to do with how both individuals navigate their deepest negativity.
