I dont know if this is a coincedence or im just going insane but I have been thinking about learning to fight as I thought it would be a good skill to have in life. I have never told anybody this but my own thoughts. I see an ad on youtube that says they will teach me to fight. This isnt the first time this has happened. Anyone else experience this? Is skynet real? Are the AI's coming? Bueller? Bueller?

Have you ever mentioned fighting out loud? Have you search youtube, amazon, google about fighting? Also you might just be noticing the ads more now that you're interested.

What Kevin said is probably true most of the time but the other day I had thought about something while laying in bed and I'll be dang..... ad pops up. So here is what I was thinking so you can see, it's not really a normal thought. I was wondering, if I get a cashiers check for over $10k, is that going to be more of a pain in the a$$ than just doing it bank to bank. Next thing I know..... there is the ad. I don't remember what bank it was for but we use a local credit union. It was for like US Bank or Chase or some big bank.

Well, this is more tricky, probably a spooky coincidence?

If you guys have read about the law of attraction and believe it, there you have another explanation.
It even seems to me more likely that the universe is configured in such a way that probabilities are bent to provide you with opportunities & serve your aspirations than Google having achieved the technology to read thoughts and secretly using it to target their advertisements...

It might be your mic picking it up.

Some people have their voice recorded when they're talking to the Google Assistant.

Somewhere in your google account settings you can change that, but by default it allows them to record you (I think, not sure).
Also, you can download pretty much every information they have on you. I heard/read about people downloading 8-10GB.

It could also be as innocent as you triggering your brains Reticular Activating System. As you had no impulses to learn self defence in the past your brain blocked any such messages out. Now it's something you are interested in your brain is highlighting every occurrence rather than camouflaging them.

If this were the case you could be sure there would be a premium charge button in Google Ad's interface called 'Psychic Connect'. ;)

Im not sure if this applies to you but the way things are headed now is using machine learning algorithms to predict behavior.

So you take 1000 people that maybe made purchase x , then feed the AI software all the data about everything they did on and offline for the last 90 to 120 days or whatever and look for correlates.

Maybe it turns out 95% of people who buy a certain model of car went mountain climbing 47 days before purchase , it doesnt have to make sense , its not explanatory its just what the data shows. Next you use that to paint a picture of where they are in the journey to purchase and you can target them accordingly , so in this example perhaps after the mountain climbing excursion we start a series of retargeting ads that are just informational and try to get some buy in...

I wouldnt imagine enough money exists in teaching you how to fight to be worth the bother but expect more of this as the internet of things and machine learning evolves in the coming decade.

You fit the same demographics as others. Perhaps you were looking up things they did right before they looked up fighting.

I get all these sorts of “young man” videos recommended on my phone. They’ll show me fighting, sports, women, online business etc. that’s without an account.

Even after refreshing cookies I still see they keep your IP unless you look up vastly different stuff.

If you want privacy you need a Linux virtual machine and a VPN at the least. Block JavaScript and you should be harder to understand.

I'll like to believe that it's all just coincidence. Maybe it was your phone picking up keywords like bank, maybe you googled banks, or maybe you just noticed the ad because you were thinking about it.

But what if corporations have technology that implants thoughts in your head? I know were moving towards the wacky conspiracy territory but think about it. Corporations were using brainwashing via marketing and propaganda back in the 1920's before anyone ever heard of such things. They have been studying and perfecting ways to market for over 100 years. That's a century of research.

There's this new technology that has been public knowledge for three years now. New Technology Uses Laser To Send Secret Audio Message To People's Ear: Here Are Its Potential Uses It sends audio directly into your ear. So only you can hear it even if someone else is standing next to you. The US government was using this audio to get terrorist to confess for years before they made it public. They would send this targeted audio to a jailed terrorist and make him believe Muhammad was talking to him. This technology has also been used for marketing. I know the article says 2019 but I remember seen this used back in 2016 for a scary movie ad where people would jump when all of a sudden they heard scary sounds coming from the billboard.

I have also noticed that at least once a month I have targeted ads in my dreams. I don't just dream about eating pizza I see the Pizza Hut or Domino's logo up close. When I wake up that's all I can remember me eating pizza and the logo of fast food chain that I saw in my dreams. What if 5G networks are also been used to market now?

I wouldn’t be surprised. I’m not a conspiracy theorist but what I’m about to say has been going on since the beginning of times. Those at the top of the pyramid do there best to prey on the bottom to keep them there. Religion has done this. Empires. Royalty. Major corporations. How hard is it for us to eat healthy? Not hard at all but most people are so used to eating fast food that they will stay obese and poor. Those two go together because if they were smart enough to be rich they should be smart enough to have discipline to put down that big mac

What @MHP368 said.

It's Like: You googled something before. Now google knows there's 12% chance you will think about your topic in one week's time.

There was once interview with CEO of big company, talking about getting as close to "creepy line" as possible. ("creepy" was word he used).

I guess google stopped bothering to not cross that line.

I rarely use the internet on my phone and have never googled anything to do with banks. We've been with this credit union for years. Normally the only thing I'd google on my phone is looking for some naked picture of a big girl to send one of my buddies (not easy to find anymore by the way). I use my Mac to do things on, my phone is too small, I don't like the little screen.

I don't keep my phone in the bedroom, it stays on my desk in another part of the house.

I just figure it was a freak of nature type of thing. Ya know, after thinking about it, if Google was reading my mind, I'd be getting a lot of ads for xxx sites but I never get those! :innocent: :halo:

I wouldnt imagine enough money exists in teaching you how to fight to be worth the bother but expect more of this as the internet of things and machine learning evolves in the coming decade.
I think this is the most likely scenario.

It reminds me of a thing I heard where Target started showing someone ads for baby diapers, car seats, strollers, and various other baby items. Shortly afterward, she found out she was pregnant.

In other words, to her it felt like Target knew she was pregnant before she did.

But the reason they knew was because she was exhibiting the same cluster of behaviors that they knew to be correlated with other pregnant women. (Easy for them to have a ton of data on the behavior of pregnant moms, since there's a baby registry where people voluntarily tell them that they're expecting.)

So in your scenario, the idea that it would be good to learn to fight probably didn't come out of nowhere. There was probably a cluster of circumstances around you that contributed to planting the idea in your head. And AI probably noticed, "Hey, this collection of these specific videos this person watched and these specific sites this person visited and these specific physical locations etc. - all of these things also happen to be correlated with people who are interested in fighting.

Google Adwords has a thing called "In Market." In other words, they have an engine that can allow advertisers to request that Google only show their ads to people Google thinks are in the market for a particular product or service. Then Google can measure the clickthrough rates and other attention metrics on how they're doing at finding people "in the market" for that thing. Obviously this is only going to get better and better over time as more data gets collected.

Another alternative:
It might also be a clever advertiser, and not AI, who has selected a range of criteria of people they want to show this ad to.

Here's an example. I want to buy ad space to show to people who are interested in spending $10M+ to buy a farm or ranch.

OK, people aren't exactly raising their hands and saying, "Hey Google! I have $22M to spend on farmland."

So my job is to find, out of all the people in the world, the people who (A) have that kind of money and (B) want to use it for agricultural land and not any other kind of investment.

OK, how am I going to do that?
Maybe what I do is go do a bunch of research and put together a profile of the likely characteristics that these people share. So (this is just made up) maybe there's a much greater probability that someone will be a land buyer if they are...
• Retired
• Own a yacht
• Enjoy classical music
• And live in certain zip codes.

OK, now, instead of just saying to Google, "Find me the people interested in buying agricultural land," I can set the parameters of the audience to say, "Find me the people who are retired, own a yacht, like classical music, and live in these 300 zip codes, and I bet a lot of them will also be interested in my offer."

So someone might have done a bunch of research on the people who are interested in fighting, and they set up a number of criteria, and you happen to fit that profile.

This is what I was thinking but I can’t recall seeing a fighting ad before in my life. This is an extreme case but i have seen knives come up on google ad when I posted my thread here on what a good hunting tool is. It’s nice but also...creepy. I get it’s trying to help but it’s like the guy at the car wash trying to wipe my windows. Thanks but I have wipers (aka I can type what I’m looking for myself)
