I feel like I'm standing up at some movie scripted AA meeting. Hi, I'm Ernie and I've been living in the slow lane. I'm an entrepreneur trapped in a slow lane life. I've got great excuses. Career military officer, wrong counsel from "mentors", failures when I tried and the list goes on. Bottom line, I'm pushing 60 and pray I can still pull this out before it's too late. Almost lost my wife, the love of my life, to cancer and still I drive an hour and half one way to work for 10 plus hours because I don't know what I want to do, other than get the F*$K off the slow lane. I convince myself it's important to pay the bills, I'm making a difference, blah, blah, blah... I'm joining fresh off of reading both books. What I know is that what I've been doing isn't working. I want to give my girl the life I promised her. I want to change me. Rich Dad, Poor Dad was the first business book I read while in the Navy trying to figure out what was next. At least it helped me realize there was another possibility other than taking a government job. It also taught me how to make Robert K rich by buying his books. I'm looking forward to all I'll learn and hope - that in time - I'll be able to return the favor.

Welcome my friend and thank you for your lifelong service. Hope to see around more.
I can still pull this out before it's too late.

Value is indifferent to your age. Have it, and people want it.

When someone wants to buy your GADGET that will solve their problem, no one asks, "Wait, you're 60? Naw, I'll keep my money."

Hooyah Sir and welcome to the forum. We've got a few Navy here like @jon.a I'm a Marine myself, so much respect to you for going career.

You've made the first step, something the vast majority of the population never will.

Start reading through the forum, especially the Gold threads. The first real lesson you need to learn to succeed is the concept of creating value.

Thanks MJ! I wouldn't trade my 25 years in uniform for anything. Of the many things I took away from those years is that excuses don't amount to jack. Do it right and you live. Do it wrong and you - maybe others - die. I failed owning a couple rentals because of my mistakes. I failed running an eco-friendly car service because of my lack of research and failure to understand Uber. I don't know what will be next, how many more times I'll fail, or what will eventually change the course. But I'm not going to give up till I figure it out. I've learned a lot from your books that I wish I'd known sooner. And I'm learning a lot reading what so many are sharing here.

Don’t take this wrong, but are you close enough or in a position to benefit from retirement? To put a positive on it, if you can grab that passive income stream and free yourself for fast lane focus, life will get very fun for you and your girl. Of course, work on it meanwhile if you can’t.

Welcome to the forum, and thank you for your part in making this country the best place in the world for entrepreneurs!

Nothing to take wrong, so no worries. I retired in 2008 and enjoy having the assurance of a military retirement. But even that can be taken away - Control. That retired income allows me to fail - something I've proven very good at. But each time, I learn more.

No, no, no why can't people read that story and get it right?
I was an Aircrewman.
A SEAL taught me to swim and over-come fear.
Jon - sorry, I saw the post but didn't read the story. I've corrected that Chief.

Welcome to the forum. I completely agree with you about MFL over RDPD. For years I was money chasing because I was trying to generate that magical passive income. Not once did I stop to think about the value I was offering.

From reading your posts, I think you've got something that will help you to succeed over the many that fail - You're not giving up!

Too many people have a go at something and quit at the first obstacle. Even fewer try something, fail, then have the courage to pick themselves up and try something new and be open to the risks of failing again. But you've been there and you're persevering which puts you ahead of the crowd.

As long as you know why you failed, have learnt the lesson and make sure you don't repeat them, then keep going and good luck.

Read the Gold Threads and ask questions. This forum is incredible and the help given by everyone is invaluable.

Almost lost my wife, the love of my life, to cancer

Welcome. Remember this ^^^^ is the biggest win of all, really glad for that almost. Keep it going, and keep in mind the important things.

Now go find some value to give! :)

Welcome @Ernman ! So what are your next steps??
1. Setting a destination. While I'm sure the details will change along the way, I believe it's important to know where I want to get to and why.
2. Journaling opportunities with the goal of deciding on a plan.
3. Keeping open ear to opportunities I otherwise would have ignored. Yesterday, I was called by a small biz owner looking to understand how they could better support the company I work for. Opportunity called me!

Great intro, welcome, IMO as a 65 YO age is not a factor. It is an incentive to use time wisely.
