I picked up this samsung mu6300 for about $300 last November, from Newegg. Totally worth it. Some trade offs in picture quality (the blacks aren't so great), but the real estate is great for productivity.
The JVC also looks reasonable for the money.
Another big advantage over a dual monitor setup is the improvement in ergonomics. You don't have to look to the side as frequently, provided you position the monitor far enough away.
