I could care less for celebrities or any of their BS.

But today I decided to read Unscripted again for the third time (I'm so glad I did, it definitely gave me the oil change I've been needing) and it got me thinking about a few things so I started doing some research.

I came across something that stuck out to me and I'm rather curious. It hasn't really been making much sense to me so I wanted to bring it to the forum and hopefully get some useful insight.

Personally I don't like the Kardashians at all. But I respect what they've been able to build. I'm inclined to believe that they are very smart business people (or managed by people who are)

So I was shocked to discover that Snapchat stocks dropped like 7% after Kylie Jenner tweeted a disapproving message about the new update. Shortly after these events happened, she released another tweet saying she still loves Snapchat.

I can't prove that the stock dropping and her comment are directly correlated, but we can all agree that she holds substantial social media influence.

I'm not at all surprised to see that most people are sheep and respond so much to what she says.

Whats surprising to me is that she put that message out knowing the impact it would have.

The Kardashians get an incredible amount of media coverage on Snapchat, and I mean a f*** ton. At one point it wouldn't have been surprising at all to see 90% of the news articles talking about them. It got so bad I stopped looking at the news section. The Kardashians also use Snapchat as a sales funnel to sell products to their sheep. They make a considerable amount of money from Snapchat I'm sure.

So why would Kylie Jenner launch (from my perspective) an attack on a big platform that generates so much money for her? I don't see any business sense there.

To me it seems like something must have gone on behind the scenes. I'm not inclined to believe Kylie Jenner just randomly tweets out whatever she feels like at the time. I'm sure the process is heavily scrutinized before anything is put out. It is a business after all.

I got curious so I decided to look at the Snapchat news coverage today and I found that the kardashians are not getting anywhere near as much coverage as they did in the past. They still get a good amount of coverage tho.

I'm not sure if this occurred because of the update, or if it's a retaliation from Snapchat. It's also quite possible that it happened for many other unrelated reasons.

I only have a few ideas that make any sense.

  1. Some kind of falling out occurred so she retaliated
  2. She has some other business interest that will profit from a Snapchat decline
  3. She did it to show Snapchat how much influence she has over the app for leveraging purposes
  4. The new update might have caused her to receive less media coverage (because of how the update had affected the way the news stories are placed) so she tweeted this out as a way to force Snapchat to update this portion of the app again so that she doesn't receive less coverage. This theory would make a lot of sense. Especially considering how immediately after her comment Snapchat released a statement saying they are redesigning the update and plan to fix the app soon.

I thought this topic might make for an interesting and potentially enlightening discussion. I'd love to get some opinions on this from you guys. Thanks!

I wanted to add an extra bit to theory #4

The new update caused the snap stories and snap media coverage to be combined.

They use to be separated. Now machine learning technology decides the order that different people see stories and news articles.

I'm leaning towards the theory that this caused her to lose money/coverage so she retaliated with a tweet to reverse this.

This topic is interesting to me because it looks like a backhanded/intelligent business move on her part. Most conventionally thinking people wouldn't analyze this from a business perspective and would instead just think she didn't like the update.

OMG, who the f*ck cares?

Why are you investing all this energy trying to analyze a Kardashian tweet?

What good does this do?

Yes, she's probably pissed that she hasn't been getting her usual coverage.

OK, now what?

I wouldn't normally invest so much energy into something like that.

My reasoning for doing so actually came as a result of your book.

You talk a lot about hyperrealities and how media stars, institutions etc scam people into a life of mediocrity with their bullshit.

You also talk about how you're able to filter out all the bullshit people are fed.

I started thinking on the chapters I read and then decided to start researching how easily people are influenced by these entities and I wanted to see some subtle ways that these institutions/corporations do this.

The Kardashian thing was something I just came across and I personally thought it looked like a good example of sheep being controlled by a business to serve an agenda.

Instead of all those people thinking for themselves and forming their own opinions on the app. They would rather throw away critical thinking and obediently follow what they are told to do just because some celebrity said some bullshit.

I thought it was a pretty good example of what you talk about in the book.

After reading your book again I can clearly see the bullshit system people are programmed into.

I don't give a F*ck about any celebrity. I've just been trying to analyze things differently to get my entrepreneurial mind straight again.

I also want to say I genuinely appreciate you taking the time to write your books. The information you put out is truth and I have yet to see any other books like that.

Life has been F*cking me hard recently. I'm homeless and had to move to Houston to stay with an Army friend. I have cut all contact with my family of drug addicts. I'm broke and alone in a new city. I am at rock bottom. I got a 8-5 job to get back on my feet and then it got to the point that I got so beat down "playing the game" that I even went up to the local college to set up school next fall so I can get a degree and then use loans to pay for it. I started falling into the slow lane hard.

But after reading your book again it was a big oil change. It set me straight again.

F*ck college and F*ck the bullshit scripts that sell us lies. All a degree will do is further entrap me and then give me the "privilege" of another 8-5 and a nicer box to drive in as I go there every day.

I've been using 80% of my paychecks to pay off all my debt. It's almost all paid off. My car was set in repossession status but now it will be completely paid off in a few months because I've been making large extra payments. Once I escape those chains I'll finally be able to put all my financial resources into building my empire.

It's 10:21 on Sunday night right now and all I can think about is how F*cking bad I don't want to wake up to the sound of my alarm clock telling me it's time for work. I can't do this for the rest of my life.

Great start my friend. You'll get there, when the head is right, everything eventually falls into place.

Great start my friend. You'll get there, when the head is right, everything eventually falls into place.

I've read your book multiple times. But this time its different for me.

I am taking my time with the book this time and actually studying and applying it to my life.

For example, I smoke a lot of cigarettes and I want to eliminate that habit.

I also happen to live with my friend on the third floor of his apartment building. Now, instead of me taking my whole pack of cigarettes to the top floor with me. I only take three and leave the rest of them downstairs.

In the past, if I had a pack I would smoke the whole pack in one night. Now, if I want to smoke more than three, I have to run downstairs to grab one more.

Like you said in the book, our brains are naturally lazy and avoid inconvenience. My cigarette consumption has decreased. I don't like running downstairs every time I want another cigarette.

Today I was reading a chapter and this part of the book stood out to me.

"If coach says you're the best quarterback hes trained since Drew Brees, thank him, smile, and ask, "how can I get better?""

You said I'm off to a great start, and I really appreciate that, it means a lot to me.

But how can I improve and make it an even better start?

Thank you MJ.

OMG, who the f*ck cares?

What good does this do?

Because the Kardashians are business geniuses and money printing machines.
While I'm not a fan of them, I've to say they're able to achieve what the average entrepreneur can't.

Some people see them as sluts and attention whores, but look at their achievements.

Kylie Jenner who has 106.5 Million followers on IG, sells her Kylie Cosmetics. According to google, she made US$50 million last year and most sales came from her Kylie Cosmetics products. Now that's a lot!

And this: Kylie Jenner's Cosmetics Brand Is on Track to Become a $1 Billion Company

On track to become a billion-dollar company. And she's only 20 years old!
I'm always curious to know if there's anything we can learn from the Kardashians and apply to our business/life to become successful like them.
